There are a ton of zones in ESO and as a new or returning player it can be overwhelming to figure out which zone you should start in. In this zone guide for ESO I will breakdown which zones will be best for you to start in depending on if you are a new player, a returning player, or players that care about story or not.

With it being the 10 year anniversary for ESO, I went through and saw what I needed to get the skin for the story zone quests. I already finished 2 of the alliance zones so I went with the 3rd one that I have not completed yet. That is where I am now is working on that Hero of Achievement. After I finish that, I plan on working on the DLC's Zone quests.

I just follow the story: base game zones for each alliance in order then dlc I like it. But I wish there was something like story mode for dungeons :D everyone rush through the whole dungeon without stopping sometimes I have barely enough time to accept quest

I feel the same, bro. They should do something like FFXIV where the whole party has to wait until everyone has watched their cut scenes. It is such a shame because I really like some of the stories of the dungeons and want to exhaust every dialogue with the NPCs but everyone just rushes ahead. :(

Just go your own way in the dungeon and doing quest most people understand it,

You need to understand why people rush through things. ZOS have put daily rewards on these dungeons so that you now have fake tanks and fake healers. You will also rush through every base game dungeon after you have played Banished cells 1 for the 100th time. You have options though. Join a guild and recruit friends who want to do casual content or do what I am doing. I have built a character with 5 shields and low dps. She does not do much damage but is almost unkillable. She will not do any dungeons until she is level 50 and has the best gear and then she will solo dungeons the first time she goes in. She will check every urn and book case and stay as long as she wants.

Problem with normal dungeons a lot of people run them to get the daily transmute crystals and dont want to wait on quests. Best option is to find a group of friends or guildmates to run the dungeon without trying to farm and enjoy the content.

One quest line you might want to check out is Caldwell's silver and Gold. It brings you to each of the three alliances and you get to do an appreviated story line. The hat you get at the end is cool and you get to see most of the content.

Someone else recently asked this question, I’m a returning player to ESO. I played the game a few years ago when my husband bought the game but didn’t have a clue what I should be doing as I didn’t follow anyone on RU-vid at the time and found I got bored really easily. Then COVID appeared and everyone was in lockdown & I was watching my daughter play it & thought about trying the game again and got hooked on it. Then I was creating characters and just rushing off to do my favourites quests/zones and was getting bored again. My last three most recent characters, one of which is below level 50, I’ve started going through the zones/quests in order & have fallen in love with the game again and still enjoy playing it. Keep up the great work with your videos 👍🏻.

New player here. I was recommended Summerset by my brother but chose a random small island first, I believe it was Bleakrock Isle and that was perfect to learn the mechanics. Now in Summerset and taking my time exploring the beautiful terrain. Very enjoyable

I've been playing ESO for almost 4 years now and I started with the Morrowind DLC. I played the main quest up to the point that I started having a lot of trouble surviving a quest. I started chasing side quests to get stronger and more familiar with the game. Now I jump between the main quest to keep pursuing its completion and the pursuit and the completion of the side quests I stuck my nose in. Once you start cleaning up an area for the small towns, it's nice to spend time cleaning up a good bit of whatever map you are on while you do so

Great vid. I had to start a new account 2yrs ago. Played all story zones in order. When you remeet certain characters that cross story lines eg Raz, they greet you differently based on your prior story Iines. Sotha Sil in Arteum as well. Plus all the recurring characters that have their own quest lines. It makes the game more immersive. Esp Stibbons.

I did return back but the pings and lag/delay in abilities made me take u turn, but did managed to finally finish my blackwood chap. the training islands are good place for new players , great video.

Great video as always! Deshaan is one of my favorite zones. I have lots of characters and always find myself spending time there. Summerset, Clockwork City, Blackwood and Stormhaven are my other top zones. Still hoping we get central Skyrim and more of Hammerfell at some point

Don't know if you'll see this but I just wanted to say you put out the best guides to eso for new players. All the others I've watched have been as confusing as the game itself. But yours are well laid out and easy to follow. Thanks for that. Keep it up bc it's extremely helpful

I agree and his voice is so soothing and calm!! Some of the other guides I have watched since I started ESO recently are just confusing and I feel like I am getting yelled at by a drill sergeant! One channel in particular the guy talks so fast and high pitched it's awful! 🥴

Go directly to Blackwood and get at least one of the two companions if you have eso+.

Yes! I start every new character going to Blackwood and unlocking the companions before I do anything else. It’s always nice having your companions to adventure with!

You don't get access to Blackwood with just ESO+, you still have to buy the DLC. Unless this changed very recently?

@@gabrielarchangel2658 No you’re correct. Since Blackwood is the most recent chapter, it has to be purchased. Once the new chapter is released later this year then Blackwood will be added to eso+

If I'm starting a new character, I usually try to open up new skill lines and abilities. This means doing a bit of the several different guilds and chapters. Certain abilities like caltrops require you to grind a bit in Cyrodiil (or someplace else depending on the skill).

Just want to add one thing: If story progression isn't totally important but you really are interested in crafting and making sure you have important skill lines open for relevent builds (espessially PvPer), I highly suggest Summerset. Unlocking the Pjc skill line, jewelcrafting and getting two more traits for it, along with a kick ass crafter home for writs, it is a go to suggested starter zone IMOP.

If you read poetry, can I request: James Dickey’s “For the Last Wolverine” This is a truly helpful video, I struggled with this incredibly when I started. Even mid game when I’m mostly looking to find gear towards harder content, the game is still massive.

Returning player here. My main is all over the map out of order crafting trial runner. When I first returned I wanted to play in chronological order but I got distracted and started playing all over the place. I've grinded to champion points in Morrowind before heading to Coldharbour and right after I started Summerset and about midway through I got distracted by Clockwork City while at the same time I played Cadwell's Silver. And so on. It annoys me a bit so I made an alt for her that's going in chronologic order.

I looked at the flo-chart, great work as a guide for chronology. I personally prefer to play Southern Elswyer before Northern, and to go back to Southern for the epilogue. I like the way that flows better than doing the chapter first.

I think doing a guide based on effectiveness would be nice too. So completing zone areas that will allow you access to thing and what gives you the most skyshards for players that want that. Like me ^.^

I just started a little ago started as a breton sorc and almost done with the 4th place in the daggerfall story forget its name, but ive jumped around areas I got to cp 160 and just soloed my first 2 world bosses yesterday

@@AbystomaMexicanium oh wow you found a 2 year old post of mine! well, if ya want an update, been playing over 3 years now, zero progression on the zones! i still only have 8 or maybe 9 completed lol but yeah ive been having alot of fun with the base building! its insane in ESO! first i thought you could only decorate houses, but by now im actually building a fully custom steampunk base, im using a big castle, but i closed of the entrances to the home, so you can only see the courtyard, wich i have converted to a kinda borderlands/steampunk base with like shabby bridges and platforms as in borderlands, but also with a bunch of actual animated moving machinery thats puffing out steam! xD

@@raafmaat Haha yeah, I should get back to the game since bunch of new dlcs got added, house decorations were basically my gold skin and the dlc conten usually has the best looking one. My favourite home to furnish is the one you get as a quest reward in Elsewyr main questline.

For a first time player I think the games main questline is important too. Just talk to "the hooded figure" in your zones starter city: Vulkhel Guard for Aldmeri Dominion, Dagerfall for Daggerfall Covenant or Davon's Watch for Ebonheart Pact.

i had DLC that started me in i think Morrowind, and the main storyline KEPT me in morrowind. when i tried to go to the areas from the base game i was so lost because i had zero direction: EVERYTHING was telling me to do the DLC stuff

@@caivt1 I had the same problem. I started in Morrowind and everyone said to "talk to the hooded figure" but there didn't appear to be any way to get out of Morrowind and get to any of the 3 main cities. It took me forever to figure out how to get to Vulkhel Guard and it wasn't easy.

I made a high elf mage and then went straight to summerset. I didn't realize it was a DLC zone until I started unlocking outfit styles and I had to navigate to the DLC section to make the ! go away. It hasn't been too bad, I've had to wait on others for the world bosses and the only dungeon boss I absolutely couldn't solo was the storm atronach thing with swords in the public dungeon.

I like leveling through my favorite stories. Marrowind, Clockwork City, Summerset, Blackwood, Fargrave. In between, I weave the Harborage stories. With leveling gear and exp potions and scrolls, that's all you have to do to get to 50. Sprinkle in daily quests, and you can knock a cunk offa that.

I'm addicted to ESO now! I've had it sitting in my Steam account since 2017 and tried it sometime in 2019 and didn't get much into it 2021 I took time to try it again and failed.... but at the very end around December I got HOOKED! I'm like 1000 hours on it now and still learning new stuff just did my first trials today with a group and I'm in love!

I’m technically a returning player but I haven’t played since the Xbox one release in 2014 and I’m planning on making a new character and starting over in the new world. I know the game is majorly different now compared to release so I look forward to seeing what’s new.

My character I have now is all over the place because sometimes I go on a walk about getting xp thru discovering new places. I recently went to a zone I had a few base stories completed to complete more only to find I was starting a quest I had already completed months ago... was a big let down. Suppose I will have to do it again some day

On my main/crafter, I follow the story until a Chapter/DLC or Event drops, then I jump to that zone. All my alts I stick to the story besides picking up all the skill lines & companions from the start. Makes leveling everything easier. Dungeons are whatever. I just choose the daily random unless it's an Undaunted daily or monster set I want.

Where should I start, its easy, just start the main story quest line and then follow that through from zone to zone as directed. Talk to the hooded figure in your class starter zone to start the main story quest line.

Me and my friends (4 alltogether) started the game and we jumped on the Telvanni Peninsula, which is the new Necron DLC zone. Can we start with the normal "questline" we are all Aldmeri Dominion faction characters. How does the quest line start? I have played WoW before, but this is whole new world for me at least. But I am extremely excited about it :D

I'm confused. When I first started off I had a choice where I wanted to start after the tutorial, then I made a second character and skipped the tutorial and it dumped me in Vvardenfell. Any reason why? I just decided to quest there but I wanted to follow the story lol

Oh yeah i skipped alot of the text of the zone story lines.... back then i didnt think i would play it very long but it is now 8 months later lol! Is there anywhere i can read up on the story of each zone? i dont need all the details, but like a summary of each zone story =)

With the "Isle of Balfiera" tutorial, I find it strange to start in your alliance zone, where they find you as castaway, and than repeating the process after "Soulshriven in Coldhabour" - I'm a big fan of RP and this just looks strange to me ("Dude, you have really bad luck to be castaway here not once, but twice"). So my personal favourite starting zone after "Isle of Balfiera" tutorial is Northern Elsweyr (reasons is, as you mentioned, the biome), followed by Blackwood in second place.

As a begginer in ESO like 2nd day. I think the easiest zone would be the ones to find the markers the easiest. Because some markers are very hard to find. So finding ones that pretty much leads you staight to the markers would be the land i would like to start in first. Just for a future reference with brand new players thats never played ESO before.

I beat every starter region from all 3 alliances and then switch between the next zones completing each one from 1 alliance each so at the end all zones are completed

Well i start my toons were i can make money or target lead! Like o still dont have that water nodes leads, so i start with shadowfen for lvl up my mage guild. Also i usulaly clear maps where i can make money. Like Elswery with the dragon alchemy parts and shimmering sand material style. I do the reach and VV only delve and public dongeon.

This is why Balferia should only be for those who’ve completed the full main initial quest. How will the Daedric war make any sense if you play them out of order? Granted, you can completely cut out the increasingly pointless Three Banners War so..silver linings.

Bruh I started this game when it came out, never played in years(was on skyrim) and just started a new game because 1. I don't know what I'm doing and 2.
