I was personally hoping for bigger conditions given that this is the west side of Whidbey Island and it's pretty exposed. The shortest fetch is 24 nm from Victoria, Canada.
The biggest 'conditions' where at the launch and I took advantage of it! The rest of the trip was an easy paddle with current most of the way, a nice lunch at Ebey's Landing, and then sun for the paddle back.
Great day on the water with the Seattle Mountaineers and covered another stretch of water I hadn't paddled previously....part of my #PugetSoundPaddleProject

Great paddle trip! Do you use any hull protection against beach landing etc?

@@kayakintro my kayak has a keel strip but I generally exit while the kayaking is still floating. The hull on mine is made from Basalt and Innegra cloth which is extremely strong (and light)....little chance of damage. I have paddled in rocks including dragging it across the rocks with nothing more than cosmetic damage

@@robertnissenbaum I also usually exit while the kayak is still floating, except with an old Current Designs Squall that has a really small opening. I am looking at your Petrel Play website now, and reading all the layup options :)

@@robertnissenbaum How did you find out about the kayak makers? They are quite new. What did you paddle previously? I started with a surfski but I am more and more interested by sea kayaks. In New Zealand they all have a rudder and are expedition oriented (with often a sail). I like the design of yours and it looks very agile!

@@kayakintro I found out about them 3 years ago when I went looking for a composite kayak to replace the plastic Whisky 16 from Nigel Foster I had been paddling. I wanted something similar and responsive, yet a bit more initial stability in rough water....where I could relax more when coaching...but couldn't justify another heavy kayak so starting looking for light when they popped up in a search. I was impressed, demo'd one, bought one. Now I also paddle the 17' 20" beam Petrel. Almost as stable, as responsive, just needs a bigger radius to turn. The Play is better in tight spaces (rocks) and bigger surf..otherwise I can flip a coin on which to paddle. They are both highly responsive (I need a demo video for both) and there is a sail kit provision for the Petrel as an option. And they can be shipped anywhere!
