Prince is criminally underrated as a top-tier guitarist simply because he was one of the greatest all-round talents and superstars of all time. He was a master at everything he touched musically. Undisputed genius.

That's Jeff Lynne on vocals, Winwood is on keys, and yes that's George's son, Dhani, playing guitar beside Petty. And Prince showing off his massive guitar chops! Ethereal 😃

I think that most people I've seen commenting on this clip don't realize that Prince was ALSO inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that night. The others on stage were fully prepared to let him cook

The guitar disappearing is legend. The joy on Dhani’s face when Prince comes in for his guitar solo-priceless. I have watched this performance hundreds of times. Prince was magic.

Prince didn't even get to rehearse the solo with the rest of the band members...the first soloist kept playing all the solos during rehearsal and Prince just strummed along in the background as a result. The producer got pissed off and told Tom Petty to get the other guitarist in line and that they were lucky to have prince willing to rehearse with them., Prince told the producer not to worry about it, he will just play the last solo, and then left rehearsal. So nobody on stage knew what to expect when he started playing. That's one reason Tom Petty kept signaling to prince to continue his solo because--as he said in interviews--he knew something "special" was occurring on stage and didn't want it to stop.

He threw the guitar into heaven because he knew he would need it later.

It was Prince’s guitar tech who held him and also caught his guitar. It was planned and Prince has SO MUCH CHARISMA oozing out of him no can take their eyes off him! Such a consummate showman, incredible style and smoldering sex appeal for quite a small man who dresses frilly! Every woman is drooling for him! We lost a miracle when he passed! 😍🩷😭

The way Prince keeps looking at the rest of the musicians with that huge grin is such a delight. He's having the time of his life jamming with these folks, and they're all there to make magic.

Prince masters 19 instruments......plus he created and produced several groups and wrote music for the groups. Just a Genius!!!! R.I.P. Prince you are surely missed!!!!

Don’t want to get into that “Who’s the greatest guitarist?” wormhole, but what makes Prince stand out amongst the Greats is his showmanship. He exudes flash, style, confidence, passion and makes you watch him for what he might do next…and that’s entertaining.

Prince is on record saying that he looked at Petty and Petty gave him the nod to keep going so Prince decided to go off.

Watch his Súper bowl performance. It was raining, and the organizers thought they would have to cancel the show because it was too slippery on the stage for him and his dancers, not to mention the electric guitars. And Prince apparently said, no I can handle it. And it ended up being one of the best halftime shows ever. He was pure entertainment 24/7.

Jeff Lynne’s voice is just BUTTER!! There’s just something about it, I can’t describe.

This was also Prince's induction into the R&R hof. He had just been snubbed by Rolling Stone on their list of greatest guitar players. I think he had something to prove.

When he passed away, I heard Rev. Al Sharpton say of Prince that he was the total package in that he could play the guitar like Jimi, sing like Same Cooke, and dance like James Brown. A pretty astute assessment, I'd say, although I might add compose like Stevie and arrange like Quincy.

Prince was one of those guys that no matter how much recognition he got, he was still underrated. He literally does it all, he sings, he performs, he plays, he writes, he even writes smash hits for dozens of other people.

Prince is one of the most underrated electric guitar players in history!! It makes me tear up every time I see this video. An artist gone wayyyy too soon. The other lead vocalist is Jeff Lynne of ELO fame. The young man behind Tom Petty's left shoulder is indeed George Harrison's son, Dhani. Steve Winwood is on keyboards. Yes, dudes...definitely an S tier performance!! ✌💋🤟😎

This is my absolute favorite Beatles song. Prince's greatness isn't just how he shreds on this song, it's how his shredding actually goes perfectly with the song's structure and notes.

Being in Prince’s immediate proximity - I can say from first hand experience - defies adequate words. I had first row industry seats for two shows on Prince’s ‘Musicology’ tour. When the legend came to the edge of the stage during a guitar solo - just steps away from where I sat, he locked me in a gaze for a good 30 seconds… maybe longer (hard to tell - time stood still!). I was mesmerized… owned… seduced… an entranced, willing captive to every ‘other world note’ he played. I can still see AND feel that moment - and his piercing, playful, confident eyes subtly saying, ‘Yeah - I’ve got you - you’re mine now!’ still gives me chills. No matter where anyone was sitting , even in the highest rafters of the arena - I’m SURE everyone left with that same feeling (I mean, you both get it…….. you were left with that very feeling just from this video!). Prince was just that explosive as a performer - and remains unmatched even in his absence. For any artist, THAT is what you should aspire to do and achieve when performing. Make SURE you leave absolutely no doubt that YOU own the room, club, arena - or any stage you’re blessed to play - AND own every single person in it…….. and that the ownership lasts way after the concert is over. (fun Prince fact: the ‘Musicology’ album was his first ‘post label war’ recording and he really wanted to stick it to the suits for all they’d put him through - so rather than sell the album through any traditional outlet, he included the album CD in the price of his concert ticket - so when people entered the venue with their ticket, they were given an album CD. Because attendees ‘paid’ for their ticket, that also meant they ‘paid’ for the CD -- as such, it counted as a sale and could chart on Billboard, etc. plus he kept the revenue because he didn’t have to pay for ‘their’ distribution and promotion -- pure emancipation!!! Pure GENIUS!!!)

I like to think this was fun for Prince too. His grin at Tom Petty. I don't recall him performing with his peers often so it must have been nice to be included & acknowledged for his talent on the guitar. Also loved how Dhani was enjoying himself. Such a great performance all around.

Love that the vocals were handled by George's bandmates in the Traveling Wilburys -- Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were awesome as was the rest of this band. Besides being an enormous musical talent, Prince is above all a true showman who knows how to entertain. Even on a single-pickup Telecaster.

Prince = next level. Forget his commercial success, check his jazz funk instrumental sessions at 19. He was a prodigy.

The guitar gave up after this and just disintegrated in the air. He shreds so hard in this. Really incredible.

I remember reading an interview with the guy who taught Prince how to play guitar. He said, "I would show him and he could just do it. ...then, okay what next? What next is you're supposed to struggle and practice for a while. Not have it down immediately." He just marveled and had never seen anything like it.

You see all these great guitar players..Clapton... Gilmore ..Petty.. and then along comes PRINCE and blows the roof off. Like someone said, he adds that classy, one of a kind showmanship to the mix. Amazing!!!. RIP 🎸 hero!!!!

I've been listening to Prince since the early 80's and brings me so much joy when I see a younger audience discover his genius.

He makes that tele look like it's the size of a bass. Lol. 5' 3" of pure talent.

Sad to think we lost Petty and Prince since then. That last shot of both of them hit me in the feels.

Prince is a generational talent a musical genius

This is my favorite tribute performance ever, flat out. Everyone on that stage was a master of their craft and worthy of doing a tribute to the rock icon that George Harrison is. This song was always a favorite of mine by George and probably my favorite song by any of the Beatles. S+++ Tier song for me and after everyone on stage absolutely slammed it hard, Prince steps up and adds the icing to the cake. Outstanding performance, thank you for reacting to this.

Also going to put this out there - it is time you listen to some Traveling Wilburys - Jeff Lynne of ELO (high vocalist on this song), Tom Petty, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan - one of the few times the term "Super group" actually applies.

The best thing about this performance, ( besides the fact it's in George Harrisons honor and his friends are there) is the look on Dhani Harrisons face when Prince starts shredding. Priceless. At the end, Prince throws his guitar over his head (not even touching his hat) and someone from his team catches it. Prince seems to float off the stage..Ive heard different versions so I'm not too sure what really happened.. impressive, no matter how he did it.💜🎸

Big Prince fan here. He was so good that this is nothing special - for him. He used to exceed this in nearly every show. It just that he was in a setting here where people who aren't that into him saw him playing. Still, it's nice to see his talent recognized.

George had already passed away. So wonderful seeing his son Dhani so happy…surrounded by his dad’s friends. And, the million dollar question has always been where did the guitar go? So awesome.

The most amazing guitar solo ever recorded live, Prince came alive on stage, he lived for it, I think maybe knowing he was in so much pain that he might not be able to keep performing overwhelmed him, I got to meet him once and there was just so much joy in his body back in the day, the early days, we were blessed to have him.

Damn, that was awesome! Every musician/singer there BROUGHT IT. You'll have to forgive me but, the first time Prince came to the foreground for his solo, my first thought was: "Hello, baby"(Prince fan, of course). Then I noticed he was respectfully "Dressed Down" for the occasion, and using a normal guitar, instead of one of his fancy, tricked out guitars he used for videos an concerts. Mad respect for that. Prince played at least 27 instruments not only professionally but, also with his usual badassery. RIP Prince RIP the recently departed Tom Petty. And and anyone else I missed. Thanks, guys. The story goes that the band had a very short time to rehearse, and Prince did not get to do his solo because the other lead guitarist just kept playing. Prince did not want to cut in, and the rehearsal finished without him playing at all. So the look of surprise with Tom and Dhani was genuine because they had no idea what Prince was going to do.

Prince took a perfect Clapton solo (from concert for George) and actually made it better. An incredible musician and an outstanding performer

Billy Preston is also on keyboards there - his music is worth listenting, too. Stevie Winwood was there being inducted with his band, Traffic, & I think all the members of the group are playing on this.

It seems like a few people either didn't like or weren't impress with what Prince did, but how many live tribute performances can be named off the top of your head? What he did makes it next level, and so this tribute lives on after people in it have passed on. Amazing!

There was absolutely no one like Prince! He was the epitome of the definition Musical Virtuoso! And yes, he taught Hinson to play 20 something instruments. There are several really good documentaries out there on him & how ahead of his time he was. I miss him terribly 😢 RIP Prince
