Whilma immigrated to the U.S. to give her children a more promising future, but this college town leads to stale summer profits. Can Amanda, Ty, the Deluxe marketing team and an acclaimed restaurateur keep this Filipino restaurant from closing its doors?

I felt emotional for Tita Whilma's struggle in increasing her price. It shows her care for her customers specially the students. As a graduate student, I know how hard it is to find healthy and balance meals that is not fast food or instant ramen. She cares for them like a mother. I wish Tita Whilma's restaurant is near my university or dorm.

That is actually how some of the restaurants in the Philippines which are near Universities. When I was still studying on my degree I always eat a same like restaurant in our University. 2 meat dishes and 1 cup of rice for 40 Philippine pesos (less than a dollar) with free soup and the owner even gives us free vegetable dish or meat toppings on the rice because the owner knows how we are on a tight budget. So I'm happy that they helped her, she really needs to go up.

it is almost impossible to be "not-to-be-so-nice" in the Filipino culture. As suggested by the experts, it is so difficult to remove that hospitality culture that we Filipinos have adapted from our ancestors. it is s wake up call. this video just made me cry. i used to live in California and i have seen Filipino restaurants close down for various reasons. this is really very helpful.

Filipino food is complicated to describe because it’s a combination of Malay, Chinese and Spanish then you have different ethnic regions in the Philippines that evolve the dishes. When people order lumpia, they’ll say it’s like Chinese egg rolls. It is but it’s not. It is because it’s influenced by Chinese but it’s not, because of the fillings and variations from different regions in the country. I grew up in the Philippines and moved to US, and Filipino food will always be my favorite. To me it’s comforting and feels like home.

A typical filipino mom. I also ventured into breakfast business in the neighborhood. It did not make much. Just like her, i was always thinking of my cutomer's welfare. Cooking delicious and nutritious food for them, the cooking not found from other sellers. I see to it that i cook the food the same way i do for my family. My happiness comes from the comments of satisfied customers. However my profit is low because just like whilma my servings are more than the usual commercial serving and cooked food here in our area sells cheap. With the pandemic and rising cost of commodities, i was not able to cope up so i just have to stop. Can't go online for my food business coz i don't have anyone to do the delivery. Can't afford to hire one.

I wanted to learn on how to cook, on how she cooks but it's too late now. 😔 Half of her body is paralized due to stroke happened late last year. Despite of her current state, I can still see in her eyes and feel her heart that she still wants to cook and bake even if she is not in good condition. She just turned 80 yesterday. Thankful but sad at the same time as she has reached 80 but none of us, her children, learned how to cook the way she does. She is known in little home town for being a good cook. She makes quality good food. Everyone loves her cooking. If only I can copy her recipes. Oh, I miss my mom so much. 😢

My eyes are teary while watching the video. All I can offer is a prayer to make her restaurant really success. Good luck Mrs. Whilma Frugroso(correct me if I am wrong) and may your loving children supports you ever. I wish that I can try her cooking but unfortunately I can't because of where I am located. God bless everyone and wish the best to Deluxe as well. Thanks for sharing her hardwork and always hold both hands together.

"Wilma," is an all American success story a hard working parent who has a dream of making a better life for herself and the children she loves, and the best way we do this is to share part of our own culture's food. Excellent simple cooked food from almost any culture of the world can open the door of understanding different cultures. Personally I never had ate Filipino cooked food, and really never thought about how different the flavors of Filipino cuisine good be. In fact, after seeing the story of Wilma's restaurant, in Searcy, AR., and the love, pride, and hard work she puts into her cooking with the support of her whole family I want to go out and try some Filipino cuisine here where I live in rural MN. Thank you Wilma and your father. Myron.

Is it me or do I prefer the old menu, it gives me a much more comforting feeling, where the focus is on making really great food and not so much on modern design like a lot of “modern concept restaurants”

I need to get down there ASAP. I don't know how this popped up for me, but am so glad I watched this. I am a firm believer that food and music can and will bring people together. I am from the Seattle area and loved this whole story. God bless each and every one of you.

I am cutting unions watching this. I remember my mom, who also cooks so good. My mom taught me to cook adobong manok with baboy combine. I hope I can visit back California and find more Pinoy gourmet in the area 2022. My dad who is a US Army would alaways let my mom cook Humba, a Cebuano gourmet ❤🇵🇭

This is so beautiful.. got me teary eyed with joy and appreciation. I'm so happy for Nanay Whilma and her family. Everyone deserves a piece of success such as hers and most especially for immigrants who chose to leave their home countries for a better future not just for themselves but for their loved ones. I should know coz I'm one of them. Thank you to the team who helped Nanay Whilma and her family. May you be blessed tenfold for your kindness and generosity.

And when his son cried, I lost it 😭 And it’s soooo true! We always ask our visitors that question a lot! I just had awareness! That’s insane! Hahahah Edited: And oh.... when they showed the father’s picture omg I cried so much! 😭😭😭😭😭😭
