To be honest the best way to play is software rendering in DOSBox Staging because 3dfx mode is sadly missing some features like replays and dash overlays but it was fun to find this patch and get it working.
Seeing the artwork in this game now makes me happy my dad got Screamer back in the day and not this haha (I was badgering him for this for xmas). Shame Screamer didn't get a 3D accelerated veraion.
Whiplash actually looks better with software rendering. I find that's the case with most early 3D PC games compared to their Voodoo versions. The texture filtering ends up making everything look too soft and the geometry to obvious. I had both Whiplash and Screamer. Both were great racing games. I think Screamer definitely looked better and had more of a Ridge Racer feel to it, but I think I probably had more fun with Whiplash.
@@rars0nI had Screamer, and the Demo of Fatal Racing, always wanted the full version of Fatal Racing though. I think I had to play both in low detail/resolution though. 60Mhz Pentium 8MB RAM. 2xCD-ROM.
Tried to play this a couple of months ago but the provided configs on abandonware and the internet archive weren't ideal or wouldn't allow me to change some settings strangely like to not stretch the aspect ratio. Hopefully the link you sent will provide a better experience.
This is included in eXoDOS, which is pretty much the best way to play almost any old DOS game on modern hardware. Download the Lite version if you don't want to have to download all of the included games.
