I talk about the kit and install for the Charger RT Link to a slide show of the install • Supercharger install 5... Where to get it www.shophemi.com/p-2592-whippl...
Did you drive the car aggressively? I plan on going with a blower on my 6.1 SRT just kinda worried about the halfshafts and trans taking all that instant tq and power ya kno.. or should I be fine
Never really beat on it alot it was a daily never had any trans or rear end problems the power levels were around 500hp/tq I'd say you'll be alright if running conservative boost levels but if your really turning it up are racing to alot building the trans a good idea you never really know sometimes best of luck sounds like you got a great build planned 😎👍
Have you had any problems since you installed it? I'm thinking of going this route with my charger, which is bone stock, but I'm not sure how the stock engine would hold up. I would greatly appreciate any tips.
Brewswillis thanks so far the engine has been holding up very well I'm still running the the pulley that came in the kit so boost is around 8-10psi my wife has been daily driving it for the last year now the only problem we had was with the MSD Boost A Pump that came with the system it was faulty i got a new one to use but i just went ahead and got a bigger fuel pump and custom tune really helped it out so far it's been working great still on stock motor only mod is Corsa exhaust
Yes but we didn't plan on building up the motor so i just stayed with the 8-10psi pulley which is the 3.375 it made 493hp 496tq on the dyno other mod just cat-back exhaust whipple tune
I have a 19 Durango 5.7 & I am planning on boosting it, but at the same time I’m afraid because some people say you can boost it (4-6psi) only & others say you can’t because the hemis can’t handle it?? What’s your point of view on that?
Yes true the stock internals on the 5.7 were not made for boost though they can handle 6-8 psi pretty well alot of problems come from people getting greedy with tuning and upping boost to a point where a tank of bad gas will destroy the pistons. Stock Hellcat boost is around 11.5 psi for example. My take is if you don't want to build the motor and you are fine with 6-8psi that should get you in 500hp ballpark a regular kit from whipple, Magnuson or procharger will work fine. But if you want more than that I highly recommend upgrading pistons to lower compression and forged shortblock like the hellcat motor has. Thanks for stopping by hope this helps you!
Yes you can get a better look at it in my slideshow install video you can skip to 2:40 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tDmF6pC_7tA.html
That thing looks great. Nice review as well. What is your level of mechanical skill? I’ve always wanted a Super Charger but was leery of the install. It sounds like it went on fairly smoothly for you.
Eric Millard thanks I work on elevators and escalator which does require pretty good level of electrical and mechanical skill . It really wasn't that difficult just time consuming mostly a bolt on install with a little drilling and cutting and splicing two wires . I did this in the garage over a couple of days . I'd guess this would be about a 1200$ install if you payed a mechanic so i saved a little bit.
Rydin N Style just a bigger fuel pump . Cars around 500hp about as much power as you run on the stock drivetrain once you start going over that power level the Transmission needs to be upgraded
Apparently it's a common issue my car had it to you can Google whipple rattle to learn more about it. Whipple claims the sound is normal and should go away when the gears ware in but if you have it the sound never goes away you can try to get in touch with the manufacturer but it usually a dead end as long as it doesn't affect the power or life of it I figure keep the hood shut and get louder exhaust it just sucks
The only kit i know of for the v6 is Ripp supercharger i don't think whipple make a kit for the 3.5 only ones for 5.7 6.1 6.4 and a bigger supercharger for the hellcats Thanks for checking it out!😎👍
how is the whipple holding up? Did you do any modifications before or after the supercharger? What about forged internals, etc. I am looking to get one and just trying to get as much info as i can, thanks!
Sadly I don't own that car no more trading it for a 16SRT charger in the purple color my wife originally wanted. It was holding up great when we got rid of it. before the supercharger it had a drop in k&n filter corsa cat bat exhaust and a Diablo tune. The car had stock internals stock transmission after the supercharger I did upgrade to a bigger fuel pump. And custom tune the guy that did the tune recommend the bigger fuel pump for fueling safety the kit did come with bigger injectors. The 5.7 does handle boost a little better than the 6.4 motor if boost levels and timing are kept conservative you can make stock internals work but just like anything mechanical it can break forging the bottom end is definitely added insurance if your going to really beat on it and go over about 8 psi boost thanks for commenting I'll try to help you out as much I can !
@@just_a5.7 The kit was close to 7k when i got it i did my own install to save some money if your going through a speed shop and factor labor your probably 8-9k
The setup looks great but what made you go with a whipple vs a procharger? I’m kinda new to this but I notice a lot more prochargers than whipple on these cars so I was wondering what made you go whipple because I honestly like and trust a whipple style more than procharger.
mark burton the procharger kits are a little bit cheaper the main difference between the two is where they they make power the procharger makes most of it power on the top end mid to high rpms good for drag racing and high speed runs the procharger kind of makes boost like a turbo boost builds as rpms increase. The whipple supercharger is a twin rotor design and it makes it's power right off idle and mid rpms very good for heavy vehicles and most street driving it make the motor fill like a big block lots of torque on the low end the hellcat uses this kind of supercharger system and i like how it looks on top of the motor. There both good just kind of depends on your goals and driving style. 👍😎
Phoenix 98 ok now that makes sense. I don’t plan on racing it or anything. Just want extra power and more fun. Plus the whipple looks a lot better and I trust it more
Ron C about three days did it in the garage mostly by myself it does help to have a extra person when lowering the blower unit down on the motor but other than that it could be a one man job. I'll try to post up a slide show of the install i didn't video it but i took a ton of pictures
Phoenix 98 That'll be awesome man and thanks for the reply! But one more quick Q. Did you cam it prior to the install and if I were to install the Whipple first would it get in the way of a cam install afterwords?
Ron C it still on the stock cam. Definitely easy to do the cam first less in the way better. I've never swap the cam in the hemi but I've done my Ls TA i hear there about the same way. You can take the blower unit off pretty easy. You gotta take out the fan, rad, crank pulley, front cover, valve covers. Sounds like a lot. Just one step at a time u'll have it done in no time!👍😎
Thanks much for checking it out yes i did the install it really wasn't that bad just a lot of instruction to follow it's rewarding too work on your own stuff fun hobby of mine
@@bluephoenix383 Thanks for the response! I'd like to try doing this to my 5.7 (2016) but I know I'd need to do the prepherials prior to supercharging (PCM, cam, forged internals); really can't wait!
SouthTX R/T hot yep know what you mean I'm in the Houston area where at night it like 80-90% humidity lol . Yeah sucks that they killed Pontiac but atleast Dodge is still putting out Muscle cars!
Phoenix 98 Man hope you were alright with the whole Harvey thing. Thing was harsh. Completely with you with Pontiac, man, loved their GTO and Firebirds. When they discontinued the bird and Gto For the G8, they definitely suffered. We got Hemis in the end so we're good! hahah Also, as a Rangers fan, 'Stros need to bring the WS to Texas! hahaha
SouthTX R/T My house did good we live in a higher area but i was stuck at the airport where i work when Harvey came in for 4 days finally the water went down so i could make it home it sucked but my boss payed me the hole time i was there $$$ Go Stros!!
S gill i know think the trunk would be a good place whipple instructions say to install it under the hood on the 2011-up chargers and the wire harness is not long enough to reach the trunk The tuner guy I'm using specialises in forced induction and has tuned a couple of hellcats i hope he knows what he doing too!lol!
S gill yes it wires inline to the fuel pump relay and that is under the hood on the 2011-up chargers. There's also a boost line that runs from the supercharger to the bap. The older models had there fuse box and relay in the trunk and the bap mounts back there on those models
It took me a couple of days I worked on it a couple of hrs after work so a shop are somebody that install them alot can probably knock it out in a day. Nothing was really hard to do just a lot of steps to follow mainly a bolt on type install
What's Up Bro! Been awhile! If I remember you really don't need anything special just the basics lol torque wrench a drill for pining the Crank assorted Metric wrench and sockets Allen Hex and torx flat and Phillips screwdrivers I had some ramps that help you gotta take the front bumper off a pan or bucket too drain the coolant into it sounds like a lot of stuff but if you done headers before on your car you can do it for a shop to do the installation your talking about 2k in labor
@@bluephoenix383 not much man, still work on my 14’ RT. Getting ready to put a 2.9l Whipple on so I am doing as much research as I can on it. Only thing I think I need is a bigger fuel pump
@@BuilditRT Awesome yep the bigger fuel pump is definitely recommended try to get one that will work with gas and e85 so you have the option to run whatever fuel you want the pump I had was a walbro 262 400LPH and it only worked with gas.
@@BuilditRT I used the canned tune that came with the kit first from whipple then I took it to a tuner I knew for a street tune using HP Tuners to better dial it in
@@bluephoenix383 I'm planning to get a 2019 Shelby gt500 when I grow up so I looking for a good supercharger kit. The top 2 I found we're whipple and Roush so I needed to know how much power each added so I know wut to get
Not really sure it was running great it was my wife's car she found a purple SRT that she had to have so sadly it was traded wish we could of kept it but had to let it go
Yep the dealership had a 392 purple Charger but we couldn't afford it at that time and we got the RT so five years later she got the one she wanted lol
No not really it was something we wanted to do for a while the supercharger gave the 5.7 so much extra power and made it a blast to drive if i could of got something else i maybe would of tried the Kenny bell i was stuck between the two top mounts didn't really want the procharger. Last choice was a Hellcat but didn't want to max out all the credit lol!
Sorry but we don't have the car no more but it was very tough to get a good 0-60 time the car had alot of wheel spin but I can tell you it is faster than a stock 392 by far it was good for roll racing 😎👍
It's not easy but it's not that difficult either just time consuming I did the install over a couple of days in the garage still not as bad as pulling a transmission or engine a shop would charge probably around 1500-2000 $ to install I just took my time don't get in a rush it can be done
@@riology2234 not really sure but I would think if they improved it wouldn't be harder to do I believe they just improved the internal of the blower better gears and screw pack and changed the look of the case a little bit but I have not messed with the newer setup
