The nails are removable using a pair of vice grip pliers to hold and twist out the nail if it becomes necessary to make repairs to your propeller.

I’ve found that the 1/8 copper supply line for ice makers fits the # 16 nail and 3/16 or # 10 screw very well.

I have been taking apart cheap plastic pens and using it for bushings. Works well and the plastic is slippery.

Would rusting or corrosion of the brass from touching the steel be an issue?

I have not had a problem with corrosion other than the nails themselves rusting while out in the elements over time. It's usually minor, and I touch them with a dab of grease or Vaseline from time to time.

Wouldn't a plastic straw work for that bushing

You could use that in a pinch, but the opening would be pretty big.
