FYI, if this doesn't work, every single time the answer is "I bought the suspension rods from Amazon". AMAZON RODS ARE GARBAGE. I'll make a video on this soon, but its due to an improper damping agent. We have a grease that solves this, and works with all washing machines on the market: bens-appliances.com/products/bounce-b-gone-washing-machine-suspension-grease-ba-80048?_pos=1&_sid=396670320&_ss=r

If the hub replacement doesn’t solve my issue this will be my next purchase. Too many times I find my kids overloading the washing machine and it bangs around or the cycle ends, only to find a machine filled with totally soaked blankets and clothes. The drain and spin cycle no longer gets up to full speed as it should due to the abuse this machine has been put through.

My washer was shaking violently. Same one as in video. First I replaced the suspension, still shakes but not as bad. Then I found this video, ordered the parts, installed and calibrated. The machine runs like brand new now! Thank you Ben! Hopefully the metal hub won't break the agitator. Only time will tell. So far, worth the money!

@@MichaelCater May I ask who makes a good washer? I have this washer and maybe 5 years old. This young man's repair is something I can do and I appreciate how he helps people. Another video from another guy said if you have maybe not identical problem, junk it. I bought whirpool because they were a good American brand but the matching dryer fell apart at 3 years old. I got a used Maytag (almost same dryer) with 10 year warranty. It has been good. I will not buy LG or Samsung cause the boards, etc fail. I might buy a GE washer but GE sold it to a Chinese company. Whirlpool selling these thing with nylon/plastic parts. A metal one would have cost probably $6 more. Who makes a good reliable washer besides Speed Queen?

So i bought Ben's repair kit. Excited to get it. This was the 2nd POS washer I had this problem with. Ben's worked for a short time. Was not going to let this washer defeat me. Took it all apart. Cleaned shaft with CLR and wire brush. Basket was reamed out around shaft. Used Ben's kit with JB liquid steel. Worked it down around shaft. Completely covered all parts and resembled. Works great. Used Ben's with liquid steel. Let dry 2 days. Have used for 3 months. No wobble at all.

After watching your video, we ordered the recommended parts, tool, and blue goo. This was a lot cheaper than I would have imagined. We received the order within 3 days. While following the video step by step, the repair took less than an hour. Waiting 24 hours to set was the hardest part. We recalibrated as instructed, and started the clean cycle. We are now up and running. Thank you for your great easy to follow instructions, your quick shipping, and affordable price. Times are tight right now and an inhome repairman or new washer is not in our budget. 😊

ive seen this metal hub on a repair job once before wondered if they were compatible with the crap plastic ones. Ive diagnosed 2 more customer machines just this week with bad drive hubs and worn splines. Going to order a few of these for future jobs, a lot easier to sell a $50 dollar part vs 200+ for a gearcase job

Ran a few washes including a heavy one with sheets and everything seems to work normally. I did recheck the suspension rod play. It is hard to compare with how the tub behaved five years ago when new, but doing a bounce and sway test the motions damp out very quickly so it looks like the rods are OK for now. Kudos to Ben for providing the videos, and the metal replacement hub!

I have a Maytag Bravos washer. Six years old. Ive had to replace the stripped out plastic hub 3 times and 2 worn wash plates. The first two wash plates I had to destroy to get them off the shaft, frozen due to corrosion to shaft at top splines. Third wash plate I got off, I feel due to the use of a lot of anti seize compound. Last repair was weeks ago, Before that, 8 months ago. When my order comes in I will be ready for the upgrade. Thanks for the tips on the manual test mode control knob instructions as well as calibration mode. Thanks a million Ben 😀

I love the fact that this happens to be exactly the same washer I have. This video is excellent! Note to Ben - This will work for some Kenmore washers also! I have a Kenmore model 110.2513241 which has the plastic hub (drive block), part number W10528947. The plastic hub in my washer stripped out about a year ago and I replaced it easily with a new plastic one. Last weekend, the washer started making the same noise that it did right before the last one failed. I had a horrible time taking out the washplate this time and it broke so I ended up needing a new one of those also. Anyway, once the washplate was out of the way I pulled out the hub and, sure enough, it was mostly stripped. I got a new one and installed it, but I would not be surprised if that one strips out within the next year. When it does, now I know that I can get a metal replacement from you that will probably outlive the rest of the washer. Thank you so much for finding this solution!

Excellent product. Have a Maytag, with the tall agitator. Bounced around even when empty. Bought these parts. First time install, tightened screws down without taking into account the tub settled on the shaft. Ran a test, bounced like crazy from the bottom. Went back in, lifted tub, tightened screws (a quarter inch!). Re-calibrated and tested. Purrs like a kitten. Problem solved. As for getting the agitator off, in my case I just rocked it from side to side while pulling and it popped off. After reading comments on the part's early failure, I will post an update after a month.

I also much appreciate your RU-vid help! I did end breaking the plastic wash plate. But no difficulty replacing the hub assy with the steel one and put some new OEM spring assys in too. But I suspect the real cause of extreme “walking” was the three dimes I found lodged in three drain holes below the washplate. This probably caused a severe imbalance of spin water dispersion out of the drum. They were all in the same quadrant.

Most people dont want to spend $310 CAD on a tranny and junk the machine. I'm so excited to try this and start saving my customers money! PS- i asked my whirlpool supplier what they would charge me for the part and they were annoyed that I'd discovered this fix!
@bensappliancesandjunk
@bensappliancesandjunk 7 месяцев назад
The reason I started selling the hubs directly is as SOON as I put this video out, the small supply of hubs dried up in the US. There may have been a few hundred in the entire USA available. They sold out very fast, and Whirlpool took months to put out additional batches. Its been awful for them. We have a new part coming in 2 weeks for this fix. One of the issues is that below the hub, on the transmission, is wobble/play between the tub and gearshaft. We have a 316SS collar in production to shim this up and solve additional issues.

I also bought the metal drum hub, and ended up returning it to save a buck. Well, July 2024, guess what? The plastic hub stripped out again in less than a year. Definitely putting a metal hub on now. So I just want to share my story. My washer started shaking violently last year. I got deployed so I couldn't really do anything about it at the time. I come home and I look on RU-vid and sure enough everyone is saying to change my suspension rods, and Leveled the washer with a magnetic level. Which I did but it did not actually fix the problem. Next, I found a video that led me to this one. I went to my local appliance repair shop and bought the kit mentioned in this video. Alas, when I replace my hub, I notice my hub actually was not run down like the one shown here, so I'm pretty sure that was not the problem either, because I still had violent spinning. Fast forward to today and I'm determined to figure out what is wrong with my washing machine. I opened it back up and I'm looking around. I noticed these black pads on all four sides of the washing except in one spot on the left side. And it dawned on me that during the spin cycle the cylinder would hit these pads stopping it from violently hitting against the walls of the washing machine. I go to the local hardware store and buy some pads usually use for door frames with adhesive on the other side. I open the washing machine and stick it on to the inside of the washing machine sure enough it goes into spin cycle and there's no violent shaking. It was then I had a flash back of cleaning my garage/laundry room stepping on that missing pad and throwing it away not realizing what it actually was. These videos taught me a skill I never had before and I am forever grateful. That being said sometimes the simple solution is the hardest one to notice. So before you do anything. Make sure your drum impact pads on the inside did not fall off. I may have spent roughly 150-200 dollars on everything I used for this project. But in the end it beats spending what I would have on a new washer.

Wet off, thx for vids and helping out by taking time to do these types of vids, something that can take hours, and that’s before the editing starts☺️👍🏻👍🏻 6:47 Story-time for anyone liking “stories”. So, my Dad went to help me in a repair job (dishwasher for anyone curious) & needed my thread locker that’s use in particular areas on bolts etc….. In my organized repair tool box (“organized” is important & why stressed this, lol, and like using Packout, Flex, Makita, Bosch, to name a few mobile/job site toolboxes & organizers…..Packout being my Fav, w/ rest in my top 5; Ridgid is in there too) & this day was Milwaukee Packout. So, as he was helping me he got the thread locker (or threadlocker, whichever way ya like using, both get there in the end though 😃) & he handed me 2 and I put in. Now mind ya, I specified BLUE, as an fyi….. on the 3rd bolt I noticed was using RED, oh boy, not end of world and asked if he could please switch to BLUE… So, was on dishwasher door panel using those pesky sheet metal screws on a KitchenAid dishwasher and he put the threadlocker in and put screws in holes to line up for me to go thru and tighten down….well oiled machine assembly line for quick work, right. On my 2nd screw I noticed not a BLUE, but a GREEN thread locker 🤦🏼 REALLY DAD, like really. Dad: couldn’t find and they all the same. Me: go over to organizer and see the labeled area marked ThreadLKR (hey, word to long to fit, but ya get it right, I’m guessing ya gonna say “nope”, lol, and that fine, go ahead😆) and the 2 different brands of BLUE thread locker are like right there….I MEAN RIGHT THERE, as use the most outta the other “lockers”. So, back to his; they all the same “saying”. I assure you, for anyone not in trades, never have used, don’t care, etc….THE DIFF COLOR THREAD LOCKER ARE NOT THE SAME THING, REPEAT, NOT SAME THING, and is why make diff colors! So, depending on application, you may be able to get away with using “whatever” color threadLKR , but depending on what working on, Co policy, Warranty claim policy perhaps, and so on etc……..using the correct color “can make BUG DIFFERENCE” and I’m talking about if ya gotta come back for another repair and take apart to get to; or the NEXT person called that has to remove a fastener that might need 500 degrees of heat cuz of “choosing and using” diff odor of threadLKR, just saying and my opinion which against my Dad’s that you can’t use the same color for everything and that all the colors the exact same product, why; simple……because they ARE NOT. Ok, if made to end of this storytelling, thx. Know was such a “page turner”; and appreciate reading it anyway. Hope anyone that is a diy, new to repair, trades, etc….that this helps you realize there are diff colors and brands to thread locker (not just loctite red or blue probably mostly seen and heard of; especially BLUE and when comes to electronics repair, cuz no one wants to use a red or color that if a serviceable part and you are lucky person that gets the call to service said “electrical device [PC, Console, for 2 examples] you will be glad the right thread locker was used, or NO thread locker was used, if not required….and gets me to a TIP) TIP = don’t think that you must use thread locker b/c might have a set of fasteners in hand that don’t require any color, and adding blue or red , as will still work fine; when go to remove said fasteners, “can” be difficult….Said “can be” as sometimes it works out and is easy; other times ya using all your tricks and patience😉 Have good one cheers✌🏻

Great story. I'll tell you the truth: I had to re shoot the threadlocker part because when I had the machine tore up all I had was Red lock tite and I did NOT want to edit in that you had to use blue instead because I know what kind of horrific mess that'd be in the comments. So that's why you see a ton of blue lock tite on the threads then the fast scene of the nut installation the threadlocker vanished. It was a reshoot to make sure it was done right on camera lol

I can't imagine having to fight with a large appliance screw put in with red on it!

Hey Ben, I have the same issue and have found the solution thanks to your video. One question, when I removed the tub, there was water in the walls of the tub. Is that normal? Also when the machine is coming out of the spin cycle, it clicks VERY loudly. Is this also normal? Thanks - Andy.

We'll it's holding! Working like new again. Thank you Ben! You saved me tons of money with this upgraded fix. It wasn't suspension rods, it wasn't out of round tub. It was only the loose hub connection to the tub that wobbled until it came loose. Tight like tiger now!! Spinning smoothly as it should. Thank you Ben!

Man I was really hoping this was going to fix my washing machine. I bought the hub assembly I bought the tool I bought the blue loctite then installed the hub assembly. Unfortunately it only lasted about a week. The splined part of the metal hub assembly split in two. I'm back to where I started. Went ahead and ordered the plastic hub assembly from your site. Hopefully this will work or I will buy a new gear case for it. I mean the spines look okay on the drive shaft. Can't believe this machine is only 5 years old and this will be its third hub assembly.

We just came out with a new item you may want to consider, the shim kit. What we are finding is that many of these have bad tubs that the hub can't fix, but it can be shimmed to reduce the tub vibration that shatters the metal hub. If you would like one let me know and I can share a coupon code with you for it

🚨this is an easy fix and most likely the cause for a washer jumping around. I replaced the springs and it still jumped. If when holding the outer tub lip and shaking the inner tub and there is any play or rocking back and forth, then this is the fix. MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE SHIM KIT. when you take off the plastic OEM hub and clean off the shaft, make sure you install the shim that will take the play out of the shaft to tub contact. I didn’t do this the first time and there was play after installing this part. Ben appliance sells the shim kit in three sizes when you order it. Mine was the middle one which was green that I had to install. Once I tapped that in between the tub and the shaft there was no play. I then installed the hub like in the video and there is no play. Had to order hub again because I couldn’t break the Loctite on the 1st one. My washer is working 100% now. I can’t stress it enough make sure you install a shim or it will still jump and have play even after it’s installing the hub fully. Depending how long you’ve been using your washer and letting it jump around will dictate how much of the tub has been worn away, which will require the shim size to be different. Use a thin flat surface and tap the shim around till flush. Don’t use a pointed object or screw driver as this will damage the shim.

Thanks for the info! The fix from the video only worked for about 24 hours before the shaking started again. We noticed side to side movement again in the tub and, after reading your comment, have gone back and added the shim. So far, so good!

Ben thanks for the video…. I had a terrible wash plate that wouldn’t come even after the citric acid and degreaser for 10 tries each… finally had to just destroy it and will just buy a new wash plates…. My whirlpool looks identical to the one your showing….. only puzzling item to me is the splines that the wash plate sit on are actually larger than the one for the hub…. So the hub once I disassembled it wouldn’t come off due to the larger splined hub above. It wouldn’t let the old come of without cutting it and now won’t let me put the metal upgrade hub on it because it can’t pass over it…. Ever seen this situation or know of another metal hub kit I may can use….. thanks for making the video and trying to allow us diy guys to save some money

@Igotstaknowit
@Igotstaknowit 11 месяцев назад
@@mikedana4849 If I understand correctly, the metal gear from the agitator broke off from the plastic agitator and is still stuck on? If that is the case use a gear puller. Put the large bolt back on with just a few turns, not tight at all. Then the center part of the gear puller rests on top of that bolt and the claw part of the puller under the metal gear part from the agitator. Work slowly as the puller might slip a few times. That should loosen that gear enough, then you can remove the large bolt and then pull it off the rest of the way with channel locks or whatever you have.

My washer has always had that bouncy bit in the tub. We bought it brand new and have had issues with it striping out the plastic junk under the agitator plate. I have had this bravos xl for 3 years and have replaced that plastic junk 3 times. It has always had an issue of getting out of balance as well. No matter how small of a load I put in or how I make sure the load is balanced to begin with. I am guessing it had something faulty in it to begin with and I thought the bouncy tub was normal, since this is the first washer I have ever had that did not have an actual agitator in it.

Hello Ben. Hope your day is going well. I’ve been working on repairing our washer for the past couple weeks. Had to regroup and figure out how to get the wash plate out. We got it, thanks to your videos. Ordered and installed the metal hub, recalibrated and waited to let the locktite set. The inner tube movement and rocking improved greatly after install but could still sense a little movement. Ran the quick spin (per your video) in the manual test mode. There was still a little shimmy but before it was an earthquake, so thought a regular wash would be okay. But it started shaking badly on our first wash. We didn’t receive new screws when we got the hub from you, or at least I didn’t see them so used the old screws. Could that be the problem? When installing the metal hub, the biggest piece with the holes for the screws to go through, didn’t seem to set down completely on the inner tub. Could that be the problem? Will watch video again and see if I missed something. Thanks

From personal experience. 1. The metal hub is $40 and spaner wrench $25, rubber maker $5-$10 2. The washer can still be out balance , or not spin where could be $60 suspension rods, or $60 inner balance tube. Or gear case transmission - $300-$400 There's a lot of parts and you can waste money on something not worth fixing due to non spinning and balance problems.

I hope you can help me with a question. I have this washer, and we had it shut down after a power outage. It would not come back on, and we couldn't get it to wash. I had unplugged it to check inside, but nothing seemed burnt out. The next morning, in a last ditch effort, I plugged it back in, and to my surprise, it worked just fine. If the unit gets unplugged, power goes out, or a fuse blows in the house, the washer won't work unless we unplug it for about 30 minutes, and plug it back in. Is this normal? Seeing that there are diagnostic settings using the center dial, is there a way to use the dial to reset the machine so it will run immediately after the power goes out or unit is unplugged?

Hi @bensappliancesandjunk thanks for the good videos. I think I need to upgrade to a metal hub per this video, but would please like your opinion. I'm working on a Maytag MVWC565FW1. It's acting really off balance during spin cycles, walking, banging, etc. First thing I did was level it by adjusting the feet. Didn't work. Then I ordered new springs/shocks (someone else's video). Didn't work. Actually seemed to get worse. Then your Fifty Cent video hack mentioned hub which brought me to this video. Mine has an agitator and I think I need to get a really long extension to loosen the 7/16. What do you think? I'm a pastor working on the church parsonage appliance, so cost savings is a big help. Thank you! I plan to order parts from your store, but wanted you opinion before ordering.

The repair isn't very difficult at all to do yourself. Ask if any our your parishioners are handy and if they wouldn't mind doing the repair for you or let you borrow the required tools. If you need to purchase tools go to Harbor Freight. Their tools aren't the best but for a simple job like this they are more than sufficient. Watch some other videos for your specific model or similiar model to get an idea of the tools you will need. Good luck!
