About pickles. I teached a couple of German friends to drink vodka with pickles. They didn't know that it can be done this way. They said it was indeed a genius thing to do - to drink polish vodka with pickles to side. They do it this way till today. This is my achievement which I'm personaly proud of and my little contribution to polish-german relationship.

You definitely should try Śliwowica, that's real moonshine.

There's one thing missing in this movie: polish bread covered in lard with pork cracklings.

To drink like the Polish you need to make those bottles disappear fast.

TRY POLISH AMPHETAMINE xd

The acidity from pickles and similar Polish food helps to neutralise the after effects of drinking vodka. If you do that properly you can drink a bottle of vodka and avoid hangover in the morning.

If you would like to dring vodka as a whisky, if you want some complexity, you should try Starka (at least 18 years). It is rye vodka, matured in oak casks. Making it is a traditional craft- also from 15th century (first mention of it).

There's a fundamental difference between vodka and any other strong alcohol on the market. In case of Vodka the goal is to make the taste as insignificant as possible. The more taste nuance the vodka has, the worse. You want to get it as clean as possible. Therefore the best vodka (IMHO) is Żytnia, (it's made with pure wheat grain) which is one of the rarest vodkas on the market. It's cheap, it,s underrated, but MY GOD, it's the best vodka You can taste. If You're in Poland and You can get Your hands on it, give it a go, cause there's nothing really like it.

Worth noticing that none of the two vodkas presented here are actually pure vodka. "Siwucha" have some aroma added, and "Żołądkowa Gorzka Tradycyjna" is a really a herbal liquor. Nothing wrong with either, but the most typical polish vodka, is a pure, white vodka without any additions. Best served chilled, put it in a freezer half an hour to an hour before opening the bottle.
