** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

Lord Burgendy Agreed, the stuff is awful, even for the money. But how is "I dig it man, I dig it." (@8:35) "giving it justice"? Either this guy has a weak palate, or he's a shill. Sommelier Level infinity is meaningless because our palates, i.e. how well we can taste, are in fact genetic. Just like with athleticism or intellect, palates can be trained, but only to a very limited extent. At this point Ralfy's is the only channel I've found that's passed the JW is shite test. Which is a fact, but only for those with naturally strong palates. Believe me, I'd rather enjoy the shite.

I think that this perfectly summarizes your argument on subjectivity Daniel! Because I believe they named the black perfectly. When I think black in my mind I get images of silk or velvet. Both I associate with smoothness which makes me think they nailed it on the name choice.

I love the flavor profile of JW Black. I get the citrus and pepper, but I also get tobacco leaf and the faintest hint of chocolate. Those latter flavors are actually more dominant for me. The only issue I have with it is it gets old quick. I never have more than one pour of it at a time. Its a great occasional pour.

Oneofdazzz JW Black goes for about $35-40 where I live. Double Black is about $50, Green is about $70, Gold is $80, Platinum runs about $100, and Blue is about $170. Good old Red Label is about $25, plastic stickers on the bottle and all.

This episode is hilarious! I have always loved Green Label. I received a bottle of Green Label from my girlfriend just after it came back on the market and she was swayed into the smoother side of Whisky and proclaimed for the first time "that's delicious!" She's now my fiancé and we watch your show together when a new episode comes out for something we've tried. Thanks for the review if the Johnnie's, it really goes to show how much pellets vary from bastard to bastard. My go to out of the the three is the double black which I find smokeier than the green. When I bought the green I was disappointed because of the price I paid, and the fact that it was very malty and very sutle on the smoke. Check this out , so what I did was grab a my bottle of coal ila 12 peated of course, and put a spash into the green and wow!! I know the green say's it has coal ila in it already, but I could only find a hint of the talisker smoke. I think the coal ila the say on the bottle of the green is UN peated yikes, just my opinion try what I did. It will shock you magnificently! P.S. the double black is only 5 more dollars than the Black at total wine.

Just found your channel after getting into whiskey after having a flight at a local steakhouse. Jameson black barrel was my favorite whiskey from the flight. I immediately went out and bought a bottle. This is the first whiskey I actually enjoyed drinking straight / neat. Now that I’m trying to expand my cabinet and palette, I’m making it a point to pick up a new bottle every couple of weeks. Durning my last trip to Costco, I stumbled on a deal they had on Johnnie Walker: $12 off two bottles. I picked the green and double black. Got the green for 45 and dB for 28. After discount I got them both for about $60. I tried them both when I got home and they are a lot more aggressive than the Jameson black barrel. It’s gonna take some time for me to warm up to these, but I don’t hate them.

Both the Black and Double Black are good, but I prefer the Double Black for it's smokier nose and more oaky taste and viscous texture. Haven't tried the Green Label yet, it's surely something I look forward to. And about the Label names - yes indeed, the Black was introduced before the Green and that's why the smokier name was already taken. The Black was the second product after the classic Red Label they started making. I am guessing they are somewhat trying to fix this difference in names and the expectation they create with the Double Black and it's smokiness.

I was once at a birthday party that I didn’t want to be at. So in a moment of poor judgement, I drank an entire bottle of JW Black. That, and several vodka Jell-O shots, resulted in a hospital visit and a 2 day hangover. I knew it was the Jell-O shots that really screwed me over, but I couldn’t even smell whisky without gagging for 3 months afterward. Even though I still haven’t drank JW Black since, you guys have helped me enter a world of whisk(e)y that I was lost without! For all the nonsense in this video, I have to give them credit for getting the bottom line correct. Johnnie Walker Green is the best value of the line by far. They discontinued it for about a few years, but fortunately they reintroduced it a couple of years ago. I generally stick to single malts, but Johnnie Walker Green is an exception. I believe it is the only one in the line that is 100% malt whisky, and I think that makes a big difference. When they discontinued it, I bought several bottles. I'm glad they brought it back.

+Johnny Cliche - "typically people suggest the Double Black over the Green because for the price they're very close" Uh. . . No. Double black is smoky, peaty, definitely with roots in Islay. Green is more balanced with a lean toward Speyside style whisky.

Great video. I just really started getting into whisky late last year and Black was the first serious bottle I ever bought (I maintain the Fireball that's been sitting in my cupboard is my wife's and is only ever used to pour into a glass of hard apple cider). I remember it being a very pleasing experience into whisky. I've moved onto other styles but Black will probably hold that "first lovers" place in my heart. Johnnie Walker Black has always been one of my favorites ever since I first tried it in my early 20s. I try to always keep a bottle of it around. Question for you two: I live in one of the few states in America where High West isn’t available yet. They were high on my whisk(e)y bucket list and I finally had a chance to try it while on a road trip this month. A bar next to my hotel had the Prairie bourbon, the rendezvous rye, the Bourye and the Campfire. I dropped some cash down and did a flight. I fell in love with the Campfire and bought a bottle later on the trip. The Campfire made me think. I loved the blend of bourbon, rye and Scotch. Do you know of any other blends that mixes Scotch with other branches of whisk(e)y? I can’t stop wondering what a Scotch/Irish blend would be like.

Do you fine gentlemen have a Twitter? I live under a rock and I don’t have a facebook. Most of my money just goes to whisky, chocolate, and coffee so to see a youtube channel-turned whisky community that also has an appreciation for chocolate and coffee, I feel like Ive found a new home online. Plus I love how you are just enjoying the whiskies without being pretentious at all. Holy shit have I seen a lot of people suck the life out of a tasting session by being too engrossed with these so called (nonexistent) rules. I also appreciate the moments you did shoutouts for other whisky reviewers that I “grew up” following like Ralfy and Scotchnoob. Been trying to find your Twitter.

Used to love Johnnie Walker. Much prefer more peated whisky now. Johnnie walked me down that path.

I think Johnnie Walker red is meant to be mixed in a cocktail but black green gold platinum and blue are all really good in my opinion I've actually never tried red yet but I'm getting a bottle

I think given the popularity and flagship status that Johnnie Walker has, i would like to see a video dedicated to JW that atleast includes the staples of Red, Black, Double Black, Green, Gold, Platinum & Blue. Special versions like Swing or Ghosts & Rare or etc, could be left off (given their pricier and/rarer nature) unless they want to include them.

The first time I had JW Black I didn’t like it much the peat and smoke where to much in my scotch infancy. I still haven’t had much islay but I think Duncan Taylor is changing my pallet one glass at a time

I recently looked at a real old video (Daniel going over side-to-side comparisons) and was unnerved by how empty the vault looked. It just wasn't right. My only experience with Johnny Walker Black was at a country club I was at for an event. It was super watery tasting. Probably due to the pour spout lid the bottle had. It was disappointing, but I was kind of expecting that. Should have just gotten Jameson.

Hey guys, awesome videos, love them. Quick question, is the green you are using to compare the new release? Or the green that was discontinued?

Regarding JW red, I think it's a victim of the Bieber effect. It's super well known and at some point it became cool for a large segment of drinker to dump all over it. For it's price, it's fine. If you expect a blend to be as good as Compass Box or Monkey Shoulder for under $20, you're asking for disappointment. Red label is a good mixer and I like it just fine as a neat sipper.

New to the tribe I got to try the black label along with this video. Never been a scotch fan but I can appreciate it much better now. I can get the smokey, peppery and slight green apple but all I can taste is smoke Maybe I'll find a scotch I'll eventually drink every now and then, until then I'll keep getting bourbon.

I've got a care package from the great white North in progress with a couple great MN whiskies. The question I have for you guys is: If I were to send you a great peated, Bourbon barrel aged imperial red ale would you drink it? I'm not talking about on the channel, just in general.
@mymic208
@mymic208 3 года назад
i agree with with on the red, it's not less shit than any other scotch at that price, but so much more popular, and honestly in that category, I'd rather drink JW red than Bells.

When I hear black, I expect black pepper, smoke, leather and salt. When I hear green, I expect bitter grass or maybe even menthol. Blue or maybe even orange are the ones I associate with mellow, friendly flavors.

My five foot nothing grandma would drink half a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red a day. She said she didn't have a problem because she drank it with ice. Love you Grandma. Anyway, I have a question. I am new to the channel and have been binging over the last two weeks. I saw Daniel's explanation/chart of single vs. blended and malt vs. grain. Has there been a review of any single grain whiskies on the channel? If not could you review/recommend any because I never heard of single grain scotch before watching Whisk(e)y vault/biscuits. Thanks you magnificent bastards!

I tried black for the first time tonight. Also tried Glenfiddich for the first time. JW Black, I was not a fan of. There was a taste of something I could not identify but really did not like. Metallic possibly? Chemically? I’m not sure. I’m going to give it another try, but on first try I found it repulsive at first sip. But I wish I could identify what I was tasting that I didn’t like.
