My name is Brandon New to the channel already subscribed and frequently watch all new vids and re-watch old vids to find something new. The comedy and banter between you 2 is GOLD. I Discovered the channel after a RU-vid rabbit hole late night binge after watching Islay reviews with my buddy. I started my tour of whiskeys with Jack Daniel's (unfortunately) years ago and went on an adventure with my buddy Chuck we ran through the blends walkers, fiddichs, livets etc we argue fiddich vs livet. I decided enough was enough dipping my toes I wasn't good enough I'm the guy who reads all the labels in the store my first single malt was Laphroaig and after tasting the first glorious sip I was hooked. Current I drink most Islays, Laphroaig is still my faves, followed by Lagavulin, and Ardbeg, Oban then Talisker and he veered in another path with highlands I LOVE LOVE LOVE the channel I feel I've found kindred spirits, keep the videos coming I beg of you. PS I'm the one buying the bottles and forcing him to enjoy this journey with m e raefdless of where we end up.... Pray for him.
Now you guys need to try the 2001 edition of the Knob. I just bought a bottle of batch 4 recently and I loved it. I just have a special place in my heart and on my pallet for the Knob so I may be biased. Once I have some extra money again I will snag a bottle of the 25th anniversary.
I'm aging some goodies in 2,3and5l barrels. Kept outside for 2 months then last week put in basement. Any tips on how long to age? Seen wide ranging suggestions. Thanks!
For this if us who have small 5 gallon or smaller hobby barrels. Could you put that barrel in the freezer for a few days and then take it outside for a few days and repeat that to speed up the process? It won’t age it but what do you think this would do?
Where you source your grains is very important and can greatly impact the flavor of rye whiskey. Check out Wigles Terroir series of rye. The only difference is where they source the rye and they are noticeably different from each other.
Mashbuild Batch #1 from Black Forest Distilling, CO is finished in a mezcal cask. Haven't tried it yet but Batch #2 (no mezcal cask) is an excellent blended bourbon.
I Jst got a 2001 bottle batch 5 I know it’s not super expensive but rn it’s the most expensive bottle I’ve gotten and I’m saving it for somthing special can’t wait to try it
Having recently tried a completely unaged rye whiskey, the spice notes are definitely from the distillation and the aging accentuates and refines the flavors.
Hey I just re-watched your first Knob episode. You guys have really matured since then, far fewer Knob jokes this time. AND no Knob pudding this time! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!
Question... I heard somewhere, sometime that once a bottle of whiskey was opened it begins to deteriorate; due to oxidation. Do you believe this to be true? And if so do you worry about all the open bottles in the whiskey vault?
I'm not sure if it's been asked. The mention of barrel making the flavor of the whisky had me thinking. Could the variety of grain affect the flavor? I know there are different types of corn and wheat but what about rye or barley?
Have I missed something...or have you? I’ve looked for your review of the basic Knob Creek Small Batch Rye 100 proof but find pretty much everything but. Here in Oregon it’s usually $35 but can be had for $29 on sale (Oregon State Stores). Seems like a very solid entry at a really good price. I find it very pleasant.
With all the talk about different barrel finishes will you guys just get used barrels or get full barrels? With full barrels you could release batches of rum, mezcal or rye with different finishes on top of the whiskey with different finishes. Be neat to see what a rum finished in a rye or mezcal would taste like.
Knob Creek, Hodgenville KY (Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Birthplace ) lore has it that Abe saved a childhood friend from drowning in that creek- from a Texan that shall take his last breath in the Bluegrass...AND as a former Park Ranger with the National Park Service, would happily host/drive yall and the crew around the Noe neck o the woods {|:^) cheers, gentlemen...btw 1792 should be swilled ASAP...
I think it would be really interesting to age a whisky, for a rediculous amount of time... But in a very cold room... The wood would'nt soak much but for the whisky to be sitting in it for say... 40 years... something special's gotta happen lol.
I watch a English French news youtube channel one of their recent sties was that France is running out of oak. Whiskey was not mentioned they talked about furniture. Thought you would be interested.
I'm still confused though on age for bourbon. Y'all have said in a previous video that bourbon doesn't have to age as long because of intense temperature changes in the South and can ruin whiskey if it's aged longer; yet this bourbon "could be" 14 years old? Am I missing something? Does it just depend on the location of where it's aged?
I think, and I'm no bourbon expert, that it is easy to "over-oak" a bourbon because of climactic conditions but if you keep a close eye on casks you want to leave for longer than normal (by tasting them regularly) you can leave some longer than others. Happy to be proven wrong.
I have a mooch question for Rex I’ve finally mooch a 20% Discount from my local liquor store but to do so I had to fix a part of the stores rooftop after a tree fell on it so my question is am I a Real mooch to am I just playing mooch and if so will the mooch Eagle strike me down for mooch heresy
Hornitos black barrel is a tequila aged in bourbon barrels, at least in one article l had read but later I saw an article that said it was aged in new oak barrels, 1 way or the another it is a very good (bourbon tasting) tequila
Art who shit didn't notice I hit send. I was gonna finish, before I was interrupted at work, it was everything it claimed to be. A decent sipping tequila like a whiskey. Nice experience. Especially on rocks. Will look for this tequila you mentioned earlier.
I think now that the eagle is dead. Instead of Rex being the mooch 2.0 he should get a new spirit of a raccoon and be the whisky bandit. Instead of a bone glass he should have one of those whisky thief things you use to get samples out of the barrel. Random shit could start vanishing from the vault and reapearing elsewhere. The shenanigans could be endless. :)
I asked that last Friday. They are a little off schedule but they will get back to Donation Day Friday. I believe the main reason they stopped doing as many donations during was that they were all limited release stuff and tribe members were a bit salty about it. However, the last 2 weeks have been easy to find whiskey.
Go ahead and say it Daniel. Tank top... We all know the real name for it esp when worn with boxers while spraying a water hose, cigarette in hand. I could see it forming on your lips for a split second.
