You two had drank too much whiskey to create something like this. On a second thought I have drunk too little to understand this fine art. That definitely
Having only discovered your channel in the past 48 hours, I feared I was not ready for this. On the other hand, I love Double Oaked Woodford more than some family members, so I was willing to give it a chance. Glad I did.
This was one of the first whiskeys I started to be able to distinguish flavors in. I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for you to agree on the maple syrup taste. I love this whiskey, especially in the fall!
I'm so glad I went back and binge watched your episodes in order after first finding your channel. It made watching the transformation that much better.
I fell in love with Woodford Reserve Double Oaked tonight. On first nosing, it's oak-forward, with musty leather and pipe tobacco. But on the palette, it's maple syrup and butter, with some of that bourbon oak and cherry on the fringes. As I make my way through the glass, I pick up chocolate, banana bread, and coffee. I love this so much! This might replace Knob Creek Smoked Maple as my favorite desert Bourbon.
Double Oaked is currently my favorite too. But I just tried scotch for the first time and I REALLY like it so Woodford might have to sit in the back seat for now 😅
Guys this is the video that made me a hardcore fan of yours......there are zillion reviews here but nothing compares to ya'all !!!! love from Philadelphia....
I came for the whisky, but I stayed for the insanity. You pair are crazy, keep it up. How aout reviewing more Jura? Prophecy is proper lush and well worth a try.
My God I LOVE watching your videos! I don’t buy anything without watching your reviews first. I love the extra banter you guys have. Cheers fellas! Please keep making whisky videos!
Holy crap! Daniel how is it that you have such wonderful luck. Not only do you stand next to the Mooch Master, but you got to hang with Spielberg during the making of this amazing documentary! Holy freaking crap!
7:25 I'm an Aussie too. I'm drinking this as I watch and OH MY GODS! Yes, I taste (roasted) sunflower seeds. I've also picked up the Maple syrup prior to watching. This is lovely with a tiny dash of water. The toasted cask does interesting things with this. Oh. I'm still a relative whisk(e)y noob in terms of exploring flavours. I'm on my second bottle of this after a week or so of being sucked into its easy feel and daily drinkability compared to barrel proof bourbons like Blanton's and WT. For me, it's very moreish.
I'm not a new drinker, but before I found your channel I was buying cheapish bourbon for old fashioneds or for on the rocks, but now I'm buying some of what you guys recommend and I bought some glencairns for drinking neat and I love it
Freakin' Awesome video!!!!! 1000 thumbs up! There is so much to love about this vide, but I especially love how the FX (cut out) accentuates the Mooch Beer-Belly!
This may be my last comment ever.... for I have been blinded by the sheer epicness of the mooch-lace! I shall accept the sample of Fitzgerald as recompence for the maiming of my ocular cavities by the embodiment of moochitude also known as Rex.
I got this bourbon... not being a huge bourbon guy (I’ll take a isla scotch) and tried to like it I really did, I tried 3 or 4 glasses in a row to the point of spitting up (puking) the last glass just to try to like it. It’s the best bourbon I’ve had if I hat counts
Wish I could find something a tad sweeter and similar that woodford double Oak is my go to and my favorite....rookie/newbie, but learned quick it’s my favorite till I find anything close
I just bought a bottle of this last night. I would pay extra to not have the bleeps in the videos. Have you thought about doing a live stream where we could ask you questions as you drink? Edit: See if you can have a link for donations when you are live streaming. I have seen other streamers have this and you might be shocked what people will donate when they are drinking.
Daniel and I talked about this. We'll most likely be doing it on our upcoming channel - after we get some momentum with it. We'd tell everyone which whiskey we'd be livestreaming several days early, so you'd have time to get the same whiskey - and experience it with us.
"The power of the Mooch compels you. The power of the Mooch compels you." Also, I'm both relieved and disappointed that Chad did not blur out the filling of the mooch glass. ;-)
Hey Dan and Rex. Not sure how I found you guys I think it has tobdo with drinking Dalhwinnie Distillers Edition and Pirate Life IPA and late night RU-vid. Lagavulin 16 is my go-to Whisky at the moment and recently tried Yamazaki 18 and I was tempted to mix them. just a hint of smoke in tbe Yamazaki might be genius or total sacrilege. keep up the absurdity as the world needs more of it. Cheers Liam
The great thing about whiskey reviews is, they don't matter. Only thing that matters is how each person likes it. Personally, I don't think much of the Double Oaked. It tastes (to me) like dried out lumber. The Oak is way to strong for the delicate flavor of the original; which is terribly abused in reviews I think because it's only 32 bucks. It has a light touch for bourbon, with nice complexity leaning more to citrus and sugarcane that doesn't hold up well to the double oak treatment. I have a bottle of the Double Oaked that has been sitting on my bar shelf for about a year, and it's still about 2/3 full. No one else seems to like it either.
Holy hell that is insane. My eyes and ears hurt a bit after that segment... Love it :P also... i found some different Woodford Reserve, including this one, all around 30-50$. that is nicely prices in Denmark
Today is my 32nd birthday so I put off watching this video until this morning and I must say, IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! That necklace... that video... it's just elegance and quality! I also LOVE me some Woodford Reserve. I've been to the distillery a few times and it was prob my favorite of all the ones I've been to in KY (I like seeing the pot stills). They also have a Double Double Oaked that is only available at the distillery and it's pretty amazing. The regular distiller's select makes a mean old-fashioned as well! Daniel, you got any recommendations for a good birthday scotch to drink tonight? I have a $200 gift card to Total Wine so I'm looking to splurge.
Happy damn birthday! My vote would either be 1 holy shit good whisky or 3. 1 really good but under $30, and two under $80 that represent damn amazing bourbon and scotch.
Thanks, bro! I think I'm gonna go the "holy shit" route. I mean, birthdays only come once a year and I do like to spoil myself. I'm thinking some King Alex honestly. It's the one Dalmore I haven't tried yet and I hear it's pretty damn amazing. I don't get why people don't like it. Dalmore is delicious stuff! I don't hear them bitch when distilleries blend barrels to create a more consistent whiskey in taste and appearance. To me, there's no difference. Either way, you're not experiencing EXACTLY what came out the barrel.
I have recently come to your guys' channel thanks to the Modern Rogue, and after tasting around I've decided to stick to coke+whatever whiskey is lying around because i enjoy sweeter beverages like that. If you two are up for tasting mixed drinks on the show, try some Blanton's Original Single Barrel with some vanilla coke (or you can try it by itself on the show too).
Wizard Academy definitely, because I'm a fairly new whiskey drinker I can't handle the super strong stuff by itself so the vanilla helps mello it out and bit and compliments the blantons flavor well. you should try it and tell me what you think!
Before finding your channel I would stick primarily to Irish and Bourbons however, all of your reviews of Scotch have let me to venture into that area. One bourbon that I've recently discovered was Eagle Rare 10 year. I can't help but get the the smell and taste of grape jolly ranchers. Would like to hear your thoughts on this. Happy drinking!
I realize that this video was largely about unveiling the new mooch, but I wanted to talk about Woodford for a second. Double oak has a scent that I have never smelled in a whiskey; banana. I can hardly smell anything else, but I hate banana, so I might just be focusing on it for that reason. And something interesting about double oaked. The second barrel they put it in isn't actually charred more. The barrel is toasted more and charred less. The staves look more like a dark Carmel color rather than charcoal black. Keep up the good work.
Cool details! Yeah, we get banana in the whisky we tried to age ourselves from moonshine. 4 months in a 5L oak barrel with medium char. Now it tastes and smells like whisky banana bread.
Whoo hoo! Mentioned on the Internet by name. Now I will live forever! Daniel, what do you think of the whiskies coming from Italy of all places. I've heard good things about the Puni Nero. And would love to see you do one on Indian whiskies. Especially if Rex has been misbehaving and needs to be punished.
I know that this is an old video but I decided to get a bottle of DO and it honestly tastes like a slightly sweeter Jose Cuervo gold. I’m not sure if I just got a bad bottle but it is not what I was hoping for at all. I haven’t been drinking much lately and was hoping to find something smooth and sweet to sip on. Very harsh wood taste with a under tone of burnt molasses. I know that some drinks needs a few minutes to open up but by the third sip it honestly tasted like Jose Cuervo, tons of burn with oak/cigarette butt notes. Hopefully it’s just a bad bottle, I was really hoping to get into bourbons
lmao imagine the people who have never visited this channel and just came for a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon review. i wish i could see their faces
Question. Given it's mine and a bunch of friends 40th year this year, can you recommend a 40 year old that I could get and love. Given that Lagavulin 16 is my goto and I love the Yamazaki 18.
You have good taste ;-) If you can possibly get a Glencadam 15yr, do it. It's prettier, but really wonderful. For something hefty and rich, the Arran Machrie Moor is awesome. For something really interesting and punchy, the Kilchoman Madeira finish is killer.
Sorry, hit "done" before I was done. None of these are 40, just amazing whisky. Getting a 40yr old without spending $2k-$5k is going to be tough. Especially if it's a richer whisky instead of a Speyside. The Highland Park would be astounding. But you'll drop a lot of money. Here's a solid list: www.thewhiskyexchange.com/whisky/age/40-year-old-whisky?pg=2#productlist-filter
I just managed to get my hands on the 50 yr's blend. We tried it last week. It was okay, but I wouldn't have been willing to pay more than 30 dollars for that taste in the future. haven't tried the 40
Great video lads, recommendation Blanton's Straight From The Barrel , would love to see your comments on that one. Congrats on how fast your chan is growing.
you need to do 3-4 mins video series where you drink whiskey and draw the notes on the whiskey circle thingy then take out the one it is most similar to and see if you were able to guess it correctly .
please do "paddy irish whiskey" it stoped being imported into America as much a few years ago so many new whiskey lovers don't know it. its smooth and vary sweet with a rose like finish. nice for any one who wants to start to learn about irish whiskey in general.
Daniel, you have Rumpole backwards. It was a TV series before it was a set of books. The books are based on the scripts, not the other way around. (Both written by the same person: John Mortimer, himself a practicing barrister.)
Loving these videos, informative and funny. Also good recommendation for the Boosh blog, that guy is the Bukowski of whisky. I'm a huge fan of Islay but my question is could you recommend a whisky for my Dad, for fathers day, who only really drinks Jack Daniels Id like to get him something with the same flavour profiles but turned up to eleven. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Yes, Boosh is my people. The easy answer is get him single barrel Jack or Gentleman Jack. Or you could get him a really fantastic bourbon.Something with some punch. Like George T stagg, Rock Hill, Colonel EH Taylor Small Batch, etc.
Daniel I just watched you and Tom F. On the bourbon blog do a scotch vs. bourbon video. I must say it was awesome viewing. Could you do one with bourbon and Irish whisky?
I really enjoy whiskey (and cigars) and want to figure out a way to interact with them more. I'm kicking around the idea of starting a whiskey and cigar lounge someday (probably in the distant future), but I'm looking to be talked out of it, as it would be a ton of work. I've also thought it would be fun to try my hand at distilling (living in Portland, everyone brews beer). Is it worth it to set up a home micro-distilery, or is it feasible/possible to maybe get a barrel and some whiskey from MGP to self age? Is there any way for an average consumer to play around with whiskey other than just buying bottles and drinking it?
Unfortunately, home distilling is completely illegal. So, there's that. I'd start your hand at aging existing whisky with different techniques, and blending things. That will keep you busy and it's super tasty.
I've been binging the Whiskey Vault & Tribe... does anyone know what band or artist Daniel played for? He keeps bringing up being a touring musician and I'd love to hear some of his music. Does anyone know?
Hi Daniel and Rex, I love watching your whisk(e)y reviews. Recently came across your new channel and have been binge watching all your videos since then. I'm a big single malt fan and would love to watch you review the Amrut Fusion Single Malt from India. Cheers guys. Keep up the good work
I have gone through and watched every episode in the whiskey vault several times over. Today I went out and picked up a new Bourbon to add to my personal collection and now I'm driving myself crazy looking for the episode where you brought out the Weller. I remember you guys talking about it but it was one of the "other whiskeys" you had with the main one. Any chance someone remembers which episode that was? Please!?
Hi guys. Very new to whisky and very new to your channel. I've learned so much about whisky that I never knew between the ramblings and bickering. On a side not, your thoughts on abelour 12? I'm quite the fan of a sherry cask finish/aging.
Chuck from Tx here... Y'all ever decide how to pick the winner of the sample bottle of Fitz? If not would love to know how to enter! Love the videos and would really enjoy visiting the vault sometime!
Ohhh Lort! Did I really just witness this? Or, was it the Lagavulin 16 I was sipping? When I finish, I will send Rex the cork. Do with it as you wish. Lmao
