@wearelegion8308 Yes, the two issues are directly correlated Inflated health pools inherently promote meta weapon use because meta weapons tend to "pump out the most DPS" I know chronic destiny 2 has rotted your ability to think with any criticality but do try to keep up
Pretty sure the leviathan's breath and Sleeper testing didn't include Radiant. So basically the best DPS from whisper had a 52.5% buff vs Sleeper and Leviathan's Breath which only had a 22% buff(3x Surge). If you add Radiant to both Sleeper and Leviathan's breath then Whisper is worse in DPS.
Levi and sleeper was with 3x surge so just the 22% buff. But in this video I also tested whisper with just the 3x surge, so you can compare them. Whisper with 22% surge was 1.54 mill, Levi was 1.4 and sleeper 1.43. 🤷🏻♂️
@@krisj9140 That’s not the case. If you watch the second boss phase where there’s no radiant, whisper hits for ~1.5 mil, which is higher than leviathan’s breath and sleeper did in their respective videos. With the 10% buff, it’s damage will get even better.

@magikcarpet1360 Ah yes, because the linear meta is much more fun. Or the rocket meta as well. Even grenade launcher meta! It's almost as if this game is basically "sit still during damage and shoot rounds at bullet sponge boss." I want my sniper meta back, or a meta where machine guns are absolutely powerful, which we are somewhat getting now.
@@Adminium21 hard emphasis on somewhat. Still not the MOST viable option as Izzy rockets will have that until starfire gets nerfed, but they are for sure usable. Especially Grand Overture, my god that thing is fun.
I used this before maybe 2 weeks ago, even before watching this. And I was impressed with the numbers I got. Only problem I have with using this weapon on this boss it felt a bit hard controlling the recoil on controller. The numbers were good. But... If you miss, numbers out the window. I think if this is used in a fireteam 2 whispers w/cat, a well and 1 div, the damage and consistency should be very interesting

I think it has pretty decent numbers. If you have 3x surge, a well and a tether, it can be huge 🤷🏻♂️ also that’s true you can get the same/more damage with a low risk weapon. Bungie has to do something to bring this sniper back.
With all the crazy damage combos we have in the game now and how little action the exotic heavy snipers get they really should re-revert the change so if your able you can get infinite ammo with white nail or whatever the perk is called as long as you keep hitting your shots
@@matiasgaming4971 you're confusing it with the buffs to primaries, which are for those types of enemies. The 10% to snipers was not said to be just for those enemies, so it will probably be a general buff.
i just always thought using snipers since D1..is just a fun way to do DPS. I’m just bored of like using GLs and Rocket Launchers. So this would be nice to use because I just enjoyed running a sniper for DPS. Maybe not burst but sustained yeah.
After playing around with class setups for a while while farming Oryx I’ve been trying to put whisper on peoples radars again. If you’re maximizing yourself with weapon surges and reserves this thing can shit out so much damage so fast.
Just saw someone slaying out with this thing vs Oryx, was keeping up with LFRs in damage phases until a thrall jumped down the barrel of his gun. Was beginning to wonder if the king was back.
Discovered your videos recently, did a solo run just trying it and after 7 damage phases i only had him under half health couldnt find the dps, gave me an idea now of what i should be using
I think they can move whisper to special weapons, maybe its going to be broken as a special but I dont care since it doesn't give you ammo out of thin air like it used to, anyone agree?
Two rework ideas: 1: ignition every third shot like cloud strike's lightning storm OR... 2: I'd happily take a reserves nerf down to 15 total at base (5 chances to keep the ball rolling if you miss a critical) (can not benefit from reserve mods) in return for infinite ammo every 3 crits
If there’s ever a solar and sniper surge on the same week, y’all know I’m breaking out this baddie. That plus a 4X Star Eater Blade barrage would be insane damage. Edit: without any debuffs it’s somewhere in the 3.2 mil range. Granted it’s back of the napkin math but that’s still insane
I’m about doing a full build damage test with whisper. I’m really excited to see the damage with a full build, cause it get’s a lot of hate, but I see the potentional dps in it.

The fact a heavy exotic sniper can barely keep up with some strats using legendary weapons is kinda sad. Whisper needs a decent buff and so does DARCI (the latter needs made into a special tbh)
Ok sir, I will go farm that catalyst right now, also for anyone reading this, you can complete the catalyst using an exotic sniper as long as you have equiped the whisper of the worm
@@lukespatola1184 just equip a sniper on the kinetic slot a sniper on the elemental slot and the whisper and equip a bunch of special ammo finder go to the moon, shuro chi or any other area full of ads and watch that catalyst go up, I just completed mine
I believe it has one of the highest sustained dps, however special ammo weapons need high birst dmg because the whole point of using them for dps is that you are out of heavy, by the time you are out of heavy there will be little time left to damage, thats why rapid fire fusions and slugs are very good special weapons for dps
It’s crazy how much longer a solo flawless takes now that you are doing 45% less damage than last season if you use witherhoard + cataclysmic (weakened clear, solo operative, linear nerf)
Whisper is too high risk for a decently high reward, they should rework it in some way, maybe just make the mag fill not use reserves. It's a weapon made from a worm god so it could just barf up ammo from the deep. Or make it self-activate radiant on succesfull crit chain idk.
The problem with whisper is that it's to high risk for to low reward It's damage is good, great even, it's ammo efficiency is great, but this all relies on you not missing a single crit, which on most bosses is far from guaranteed, sure you could run div, but given that div is now a 15% debuff, equal to weaken, your better off running rockets with a weaken debuff applied so your 6th doesn't have to run div
I’m just glad I can stop using Grand overture/Thunderlord + Nova bomb + 15%debuff. That spits out 900K max since it’s a burst damage strat but at the time I didn’t know what else to use. I DPS less with linears cause I suck ass and it’s too hard to Starfire him because I gotta hit my witherhoard shots. Which becomes harder the further away the boss goes. And I can’t move with him because of the well
Just use leviathan’s breath from a well. It’s easy to use and you can use it standing in a well. Only If you have the catalyst. Whisper has better damage, but you need a really good recoil control If you don’t walk with akelous.
Guys😂 it’s a 10% buff, it’s only going to make it do 40k when the buff comes out. With ammo reserves that’s like 1 and a half extra shots here in this video. Not gonna make a big difference like the heavy GL buff that happened in nightfall. Some of y’all have no common sense. I don’t want to be the party pooper but cmon.
What trace rifle were you using? When it comes to shooting the eyes I've never seen 3 people do it as fast as you alone. How were you getting it done that fast? Not just any trace rifle will do because I've used a few
So sad to see that most encounters in D2 need more burst damage weapons or are too close for a sniper to use. I think Whisper has one of the highest total damage in the game, but it's just too slow for certain bosses
@@troyashannonjr I wouldn’t say it’s ass. It was used to solo two phase this boss last season. It caught a nerf, but not enough to make it complete ass. I’d be willing to bet the DPS would be similar or better than what’s shown here if optimized correctly.
Honestly, even with the 10% buff snipers are getting, it's still gonna get outclassed by just about every other meta dps option rn. Not to mention the lack of bosses that snipers could actually be utilized on. Until they nerf rockets into the ground, and linears even harder, snipers wont see the light of day (outside of izi ofc) for a long time.
I don't know what yall or this title is talking about...it's just a 10% damage buff in the futures, it's not going to revive this gun back to the top of the charts. Still cool/good in a way but don't manipulate yourself THAT hard
The title is about the catalyst, nothing about the 10% buff. As you can see without catalyst it dealt 36k per shot and with the catalyst it was 55k. The dealt damage is better than thunder lord, so I think it’s not that bad. Of course thunder is a lot easier to use
I always like whisper. When people said i was a fool for using it in my solo flawless against this guy, but it was fun, so i dont really care. I am excited about the damage buff tho. I hope a whisper meta comes back
That would mean the final shot would have the highest possible damage from high impact and you'd be shooting it often as it has only 3 shots in a mag... Damn that's actually not a bad idea
Would be easier if ya used thunderlord… just listen when he moves back just walk with him and if you have 2 to 3 ppl with thunderlord it just eats especially with catalyst and war rigs exotic titans plus one run thunder crash with exotic chest piece for it. Came out my self with over 2mil damage
Thunderlord has been the most used exotic during raids aswell as dungeons, with the combination of thunderlord and a good team you would be amazed at your DPS during raids and such for boss DPS

Incredibly helpful! Been trying to solo this dungeon, but as a lock in lightfall it's VERY difficult to get good enough dps on Akelous. I've tested and best I can do is a 8-10 phase solo(no joke) maybe I've been doing something wrong? I have the whisper, so I'll try with that. May I ask... What did you use for eyes? You crushed those. Also, how did you get the solar weapons boost?
To be honest I don’t recommend using whisper as a warlock. Whisper has a huge recoil and the only effective way is to walk forward while shooting, but with a warlock you will use a well. If you have leviathan’s breath with catalyst, you can easy solo 3-4 phase it. Other weapons like sleeper, cataclysmic/Briar is top tier. If you don’t have those linears, you can use others, but the dps will be a bit worse. For popping the eyes I’m using a trace rifle, I had 3x solar surge mod in the leg armor so it had bonus 22% damage, that’s why it popped the eyes fast. So use 3x surge that matches your heavy and If you have use a trace rifle that also matches your heavy burn. Place a Boss spec mod into it, so it will get another 7.77% damage against the eyes. I hope this helped a bit :)
HOW DO YOU CLEAR THE EYES SO FAST 😨 I was trying to solo this today and couldn't clear eyes that fast even using aegers. I'm on controller it feels super wonky
I used a trace lifle that matches my heavy weapon burn, so both will have the 3x surge buff (22% dmg buff) and with this buff your trace rifle will pop them really fast. Maybe legendary is better than aeger because you can use Boss spec in them which is plus 7.77% dmg buff.
It depends on what class you play and what your fireteam using. Linears are still top tier for dps. Thunderlord also easy high dps. Leviathan’s breath only with catalyst. If I would solo it I’m gonna use cataclysmic or Briar. For the last boss a well helps a lot and rockets are the highest dps weapons there.
