Interesting to note the lengths gone to to clean the tank tracks of soil debris. During my military service (in NZ) in the late 1960s the tanks and other tracked vehicles (mostly APCs) were driven or towed through a shallow water bath to clean the tracks and undersides, sometimes several times.
I'm a little sad to see it leave, a pristine Chieftain looking and sounding absolutely fabulous. She will never again look this good, but at least she will have a fun time with the yanks getting to show off her armour bouncing some .50 HMG rounds I'm sure. I believe this is what Cody does.
Let's hope for the old girls sake she breaks down the moment it comes off the trailer as that's probably the only way the vehicle will last longer than a day and then they cant fix it . Finger crossed for the old girl RIP FV 4201,
Last time I saw a tank looking that smart was last week when I saw Challenger 2 chassis, all spruced up and minus turret, on their way for Challenger 3 upgrade.
@@Jabber-ig3iw Always wondered why the interior of tanks often look so dirty/rusty and in bad shape at least in most videos I've seen of people showing museum tanks. I know they're old with other vehicles it's usually the interior that looks better than the exterior

@@bobbyrayofthefamilysmith24 it is due to it being a big chunk of metal that gets cold during the night, and as the day rises, the moisture from the warm day air condensates on everything making it rust, especially interior, and not just the places where water would puddle in case there are leaks during rain, but everything is rusty/corroded because it just doesn't dry out and zinc coatings are sacrificial, meaning they don't last forever very dry desert air is where you have a chance of offering best protection to these, hence US stores most of the equipment there despite the sun (UV from sunlight also damages most materials) and the dust

If I ever have the urge to purchase a tank I know who I'm buying it from. If they're washing the bottom of the tracks as it goes on the trailer I can't imagine how much attention to detail was put into the mechanicals
The washing of the tracks would have been an import requirement. Generally they are shipped without any fluids and they must be free of any dirt that could contain seeds or bugs that could become an invasive species in the destination country. Though having said that, these guys do seem to put a lot of work into the equipment that they work on.
getting a vehicle through customs in the US is rough, when i shipped my truck from Germany to the U.S. it got kicked back for dust on the intake manifold by the shipping company. Apparently it has to be clean enough to eat off of for the US to allow it.
Honestly sad to see it get sold to Whistlindiesel. Such a nice Tank going to someone who just destroys stuff 24/7. I give it less than a year after arrival that it has some sort of serious damage don't to it either externally, internally or mechanically.

Great jod chaps....used to see chieftains and challengers all the time in cross gates.Once applied for a job at Barnbow in 81, l didn't get it but got top marks in the test they made you sit. Beautiful machine
What a fantastic example of a Chieftain; a real testimony to the hard work that has gone into it. Shame it is off to the USA as I would have loved to have seen at on the show circuit here in the U.K.

Ministry of Defence, 38 years. Didn't anyone tell the poor devil it's got a L60. I hope to God it's been rebuilt by someone other than Red Robbo at Leyland. They went bust soon after. Good engine destroyed by lefty unions. A friend on a visit to Leyland was on the catwalk outside 'God's' office when he saw a fitter use a 6-foot crowbar to rotate the bare crankshaft he had fitted. His feet left the ground, but he just carried on after it moved an inch or two. I helped rebuild several brand new L60's and what I found was horrendous. I have absolutely no pity for those Leyland employees who lost their jobs.
How do you even destroy a tank by just driving it like crazy? Unless he drops it from a crane i expect it will only need maintenance (pretty sure this channel owner has said he will fix it if needed). This is a TANK bro, it will take some serious effort to destroy it. lol
@@alanwatts8239 it will be used as a motorised wrecking ball. From what i have seen of this guys channel, no mechanical sympathy is given. My guess is the engine/drivetrain will give out. That is if he doesnt drop a track first.
Nice to see a bit of british built hardware giving so much pleasure on Cody's channel. Most tanks that get destroyed tend to come with casualties with the Chieftan suffering its fair share in past conflicts...they're meant to maim and destroy, after all. At least Cody can make money out of his, have fun and entertain folks all around the world without a single death or injury that real soldiers risk. His is a big channel and it needs big spectacle.
How does it actually get shipped to the u.s.? Obviously most people can't drive a tank, hence why this dude drove it on the truck for the driver which is extremely uncommon. Once at the port, no one can drive it and it's not exactly light. Just curious how the logistics work when privately shipping a tank.
Well, Cody has taken receipt of the tank, its 56ton weight didn't sink the ship on the way over there which I thought was a distinct possibility! Now we're all waiting for his first Cheiftain-Tank Adventure Video! I wonder how -long- short before he wrecks it? Maybe he should have bought a Sheridan tank, cool looking US medium tank or maybe a Hellcat a very fast US tank destoyer! More in-line with WhistlinDeisel me thinks!
Yea, 56 ton and the truck driver only had 4 chains holding it on, wow, I drive trucks for a living and in my country you wouldn't even be allowed on the road with that little underrated amount holding it down and on the deck.
They do. The blanket is because America are super strict and it can’t have one grain of mud on it. They spent about a month cleaning it for that reason.

It sounds ridiculous but I had to clean a 1/6 scale chieftain model just the same for a customer in the states, it cost £1500 to ship by airfrieght. Phil Woollard
i give it 2 hours of him driving it before he throws track and calls you to come out and fix it. with no spare links or he breaks a sproket. or god forbid. he drive the thing thru some barb wire fencing and calls you to clean the birds nest of cabling stuck in the suspension. been there done that.
Maybe so. But remember non of us are keeping anything forever? There’s a lot to be said for people living and enjoying life then parking something up because your to afraid to use it in case you scratch it.

@@MrHewes I was once sat listening to Gerry Marshall, famed British car racer who had just climbed out of a classic Aston martin that he’d totaled at Brands Hatch. His view was that “the bloke who actually built it in Newport Pagnell and probably the bloke that designed it didn’t intend it to be sat in a f*****n garage because if they had they wouldn’t have made it so f****n quick would they?”. I’d guess the same applies to a piece of equipment that was specifically designed to destroy things and was also expected to have similar attempts made at it.
I feel like he would use this to run over cars. Bc why would he destroy a tank? Thats like 1 million times cooler than a car/supercar can be. This will be used like his escovator
