I never had the chance to ride this beautiful line, now thanks to the wonderful route(North Yorkshire Coast 2019) by Mark Thompson we can with the help of Train Simulator 2021 and Final Cut Pro once again take the train from Whitby to Sandsend.

I often rode that line when I was a child.and still have vivid memories of it. My grandfather was a train driver and occasionaly we had the added bonus of seeing inside the cab befor the journey. pleasant memories indeed. Thank you for creating such a nice relaxing vidio.

My grandad started on the railways as a fireman in Middlesbrough Newport in 1909. In about 1928 he transferred as a locomotive driver to Saltburn shed, where he stayed until retirement in 1961. He worked for the NER, then LNER and finally British Railways. He must have known this line very well, driving from Saltburn to Scarborough or Darlington. I remember him setting off to walk down the line to work in the mornings with his "bait" tin and bottle of cold tea supplied by gran. Like you, I never travelled on this line, but I do remember the iron bridges at Sandsend.

Super thanks Mike. I remember the railway when we holidayed in Whitby during the 1950s but never saw a train! We go to Whitby every year and manage to include a walk on parts of the old line. If only it were still open.

Wow! Absolutely loved this Simulation! As would my late Brother, he was a Steam Railway Enthusiast particularly the Line between Guisborough to Whitby. He often tried to explain the Route between Whitby & Sandsend , having had many a Holiday in Whitby I will probably have travelled this actual Route but being so Young at the time have no recollection! Many Thanks

Just returned from a week based in Whitby, armed with a 1919 Ward Lock guide. I managed to recreate many of the photos in the guide, but couldn't manage the view up the beck into Sandsend, obviously taken from somewhere along the railway line.

It is a shame you left the camping coaches off. They were in the siding of the goods yard just before the first of the two bridges in Sandsend
