Been working with birds for around a decade. That is the most unique sound I have ever heard an animal make let alone a bird.

It amazes me that after 30 years of living on the planet i still get to discover a completely new animal everytime o open my phone almost. where has this animal been all my life? You would sure think you'd hear about it.

Have you ever heard a Flicker screaming right next to your head? Ear piercingly loud! One was in a tree on a branch next to my head. He didn’t see me and I didn’t see him until SCREECH!! Beautiful bird with a loud scream just like the one in the video! Another thing the Flicker does is find a metal pipe, slide or chimney and rat-ta-tat on it so loud it’s deafening especially if you’re inside the house with the chimney! 🫨

Still quieter than opening one of those supermarket plastic cake containers at 2am.

It's actually incredible the unique sounds animals make, yet when we try to recreate the sounds of animals that no longer exist they're always the typical roar or squawk. Yet we have birds like this that don't even squawk, they sound closer to a fire alarm than they do a bird. Could we ever have known this if this bird didn't exist and all we had were fossils?

For those wondering about that dangly piece hanging off its beak. It's a piece of flesh called a wattle, and it's similar to what roosters have under their beaks.
