Very interesting results. I do recommend making a vacuum chamber to assist in pulling out the bubbles. you just need some kind of sealed box and a fixture to attach a shop vacuum hose as a bare minimum. You will still need to open and pop some of the bubbles in resins, it helps prevent bottoms and sides from having air gaps as well as some of the bigger ones from forming.

Steve, I just watched the video and I had 2 questions. Did you spray the mold with mold release first? Is the white cement normally mixed with water (I don't know anything about cement).

I am wanting to try this mixture. I wonder if mixing the glitter or mica powder with the dry cement before adding to the resin would prevent them from sinking? To get the marbled effect, divide the resin prior to adding the cement. Add the uncolored cement to one portion and the colored cement to the other portion. Mix each one well and then combine the two, mixing only enough to get the desired effect.

Question: I've hoarded a ton of resin stuff, ultimately I want to fashion different types of wings, where would you suggest I invest my money and time in learning how to work with resin to gain the skills I need to create different wings... Ever consider using biodegradable glitter? Glitter is the number one pollutant on the planet. By WAY far more than the rest of plastics. Not harping on you-just thought to mention it. They have so many colors and for cheap! Love your content sir 👍🏽🤘🏿 you’re great 💕🙌🏽
If you made your molds a little different, with a space above your edge, you wouldn't have to babysit them so much, you could overfill them a little and as the air escapes, there would be a reservoir waiting to drain in. I assume the upper lip requires some cleanup anyway, so it would just be slightly more cleanup.
Hello Steve, thanks for the video. How strong are those geoemtries, do you have any experience? I am thinking to use this mix for some damaged, plastic, mechanical part, like gears.
All I can say is "Look at getting either a vacuum or a pressure chamber". Those three different techniques would also might look good when used to make mechanical keyboard keycaps.
Have you ever tried a cup with a divider in the middle, mix two colors then put each color on opposite sides of the divider.. then you could pour the two colors at the same time and slightly turn it as you pour into a mold.. I can imagine that will give you a dramatic marbling effect..
I used to do something similar with melt and pour soap that had set up a little so about the same consistency as resin. I just used two different cups and poured them at the same time. Very pretty.
Does this pour and self level like regular two part epoxy? I'm thinking to use a similar blend to the black glitter one you did on a chiseled MDF slab. The idea would be to chisel the slab to a slate-stone-like edge and make a table which replicates the shape and look of slate at a much cheaper cost while also remanining safe (genuine slate slabs have edges which might as well be an arrowhead waiting to be fallen into as far as I can tell).

Take a crafting heating gun or a lighter to the bubbles. It will help pop them. Also you can use isopropyl alcohol spray, Also the tapping helps get the bubbles out like you said
did you watch the video? he used a lighter. thing is bubbles form throughout the curing process and when the resin is getting stiff, the bubbles keep forming but dont come to the top. best investing in a vacuum degasser or a pressure pot. almost guaranteed bubble free, and if you are making items to sell then its an investment.
great experiment, I want to try it but with a different mold, maybe some kind of tray so that the bubbles are on the side that's going to be sanded and kept hidden anyway Also, as it createda beige color, maybe using it in a sea composition to represent the waves? I'm going to ask everyone I know to see if they have a little bit of "Porlan" as it is popularly known here, so I don't have to buy a whole bag XD
Most crochet hooks don't work as molds but you can just repeatedly dip and drip them over and over until a handle forms. But as a crocheter I would imagine the handle because its hard, and doesn't give, will eventually hurt your palm or the edge of your palm...pinky side sore after a few hours of crochet. He does have a video on crochet hooks themselves.

Um maybe be nice? And why a three sided box? Why not just a lazy Susan? He doesn't really do that ta da moment. He talks about what they look like and why. I prefer that.
@@teedee478 A Three sided white box for photos of finished projects- 2 vertical sides and a bottom- makes everything look great on camera. That way they can be shown for people who are considering buying them. I am not trying to be mean. I 've begged him a few times to get a white background :D. I even offered to buy him a coffee every time he does to get him in the habit. A mechanized lazy susan would allow him to show all angles of the piece in a video so he could use that in his YT vids.
@@bubblemum I dont think he sells the projects. Part of his appeal is the everyman approach. That may interfere with the appeal. My understanding is that he sells other things not necessarily what is on the screen. Even so, if he looks like we do in that we all have.that crazy mat then so be it.
