I started this hobby, with the help of your videos during this pandemic. I’ve set up 6 aquariums total 2 medium size and 3 “nano” tanks. All of them are stocked creatively, but my favorite is my Arizona tank which is scaped and planted to look like the Phoenix desert. It houses a betta and White Cloud Mountain minnows and they are absolutely to die for. Could not recommend them enough, they’d be the last thing standing in an unstable aquarium for sure.

last year I set up and outdoor turtle pond for my spotted turtles, its unfiltered and in the height of summer it was full of mosquito larvae so I was doing some research on small fish that could live outdoors in the UK and wouldnt compete with my turtles or cause the water to get to messy like goldfish. I found this video and then purchased 12 white clouds. They started chowing on the larvae almost instantly. During the summer the water reached the mid 80's and the pond froze over on many occasions this winter. I hadn't seen any all winter long, but a few days ago I was removing some plants and low and behold there they where looking fine!! I do not feed them at all either so I am very happy to see them still going!

I 100% agree. In fact, these fish are the only fish to survive me starting out in the hobby. All my other fish died. These lived and are still living a long time after I learned the how aquariums work. Even if you are a complete failure, this fish will probably live.

i accidentally let my tank drop to 50F while away from home and they almost died. They went into a coma :) But they perked right back up when the tank got back to 70F over 36 hours.

Funny you say that, white clouds were the first fish I ever kept, and long before I knew about the cycle, but they died rapidly I could never keep them so so fragile from my experience. I then went onto bettas, various barbs, guppies, mollies, tetrass and plecos all far hardier and didn't die if you so much as looked at them haha. It's interesting to see the different experiences. I rarely see them in lfs or anywhere around here either, apparently they are hard to keep in our climate. I actually have found it easier to keep scaleless super sensitive fish than to keep white clouds. Even now, I tried to own them recently, and they all died despite perfect conditions. I'd love to see a tank with them in one day, because they just don't work for me.

@@tonytca9439 I wonder if you got them from a source that had bred them for warmer water? I have a friend here in Michigan, where we get brutally cold winters(as in, 20-30 below zero F. ), with FEET of ice on our lakes..and he keeps them outside in a large wooden rain cistern year round, with just a bubbler in the hottest part of the summer, and in winter to keep a small area open of ice for oxygen transfer. The water temp in winter gets to basically freezing(say, 33 degrees, or 0C), and they not only survive, but breed like rabbits, there are at times thousands of fry in that rain cistern! BTY, the colors on these "wild" fish are stunning. I myself keep them with native(to the northern U.S), fish such as shiners, redbelly dace, and rainbow darters, and in unheated aquariums that get down into the 50's in winter, they thrive.

This is correct, I must have had nearly every type of fish under the sun but the mountain minnow always came out on top in every way. They are cute little friendly guys and I love the way they dance and bounce rather than swim. I can't even recall many that died, you have to pass them on if you no longer want them because they just wont die, I love their colours to, number one fish with no hassle at all. They soon get to know their owner and they love to show it, look no further folks!.

Love them white cloud mountain minnows, especially in a highly planted tank. The only non-livebearer that I purposely breed. I enjoy the neon blue color of the young fry swimming amongst the plants. 💯 the most underrated fish I never knew I wanted! I kept losing an odd ember tetra every now and again, and the ones remaining in my 10g Betta tank always hid. When I added some white clouds, the embers joined the school! They are all very active and dither about in the aquarium, fearlessly exploring. Damon, my red half moon Betta, completely ignores them as well. I’ve only had them for a week, and the white clouds’ colors have really deepened already, and their cream bodies really make their red fins pop. I am in ❤!

I got an aggressive male in a group of eleven. I’ve read that I can try increasing the numbers so I doubled that but he is still aggressive! Defending his corner and pecking everyone his side that wanders in.
