Are you daunted by drawing 'white' fur? Here I talk you through my pencil colour choices with a series of reference photos depicting animals with white fur.
I base the pencil colours on the Faber Castell Polychromos palette range. Most of these photos are available to download from my Patreon channel where you will also find a video tutorial on how to create the labradoodle white curly fur which is just under 3 hours in length.

Thanks Sharon, glad it helps. I need to stop & do more of these little videos as I think it helps more people, especially those starting out to look harder for the undertones. On to black fur now :)

Very helpful thank-you. I have been asked to draw an arctic fox Nd decided to draw it in polychromos pencil and this has really opened my eyes as to the number of colours I need to use. I am used to drawing charcoal or graphite so this is a new area for me.

Thanks Julia. I think I take for granted the colours that I see so I remembered to take time to put this together to explain it to others. I will try to do more of these ahead of starting work on a piece.

Thank you so much for this video it will help me so much in my next project. I have a long hair chihuahua that looks like a mini of your dog! Same colors and I am so struggling with getting the colors right. In my photo her colors are white but in person she is cream, ivory, whites and light ochre. So do I use the colors in the pic or the colors she is in person? So confused! I would love your suggestion. I absolutely love your work!!!

Ooh, that's an interesting question. Is she your dog? If I was drawing my little 'white,' dog I would go with the lighting in that photo. However, if it was a commission I would ask the client which option they prefer. Most times I try to get as close a match to their true colour in natural daylight but if I can then I exaggerate the colours. The joy of artistic licence

Animal Art by LAW Thank you so much for the reply. Yes she is my dog and my photo. She looks so much like your little white dog in the video. Yeah I was leaning towards doing her true colors rather than the colors in the photo I hope I don’t screw it up...LOL!
