I just noticed how there's almost no music being played in this mission. That actually makes the whole tone a whole lot more unsettling which is a smart choice.
@A numba 9 large Extra dip it's just heartbreaking. This game is a real depiction of war in the Middle East, and everyone wants a slice of this non fictional pie. I hate the romanticization of war.
MEWITHMYSELF what was funny that they didn't find good voice actors for russians. The american accent was SOOOO STRONG. No soft "R" sounds in russian. Nearly All sounds are pronounced without lips movement, even teeth can be closed
Even if it's only just a game, this scene brought me to tears for these moments actually happen in a constant motion EVERYDAY and yet there are still many of us who do not realize how lucky they are with their lives not hanging on a thread and free from all sinister forces who could bear possession of it anytime just for a bland reason of a superficial remorse.
The horrible Russian spoken in this game is cringeworthy. But it's an American propaganda piece So it's not shocking, no talented people wanted to be involved. I mean they depicted the 'White Helmets' witch is the ISIS medical branch as heros.
@@levvy3006 That's even worse. In Post-Credit Sequence. There is a translation mistake. One subtitle says "Shit" when Russian says "Chyort". But it actually means "Der'mo".

Anyone else feel like this is just a little on the nose? I mean, it feels over the top, even for COD. Emotional manipulation doesn’t work very well when you make it obvious that you’re trying too hard.
While I somewhat agree with that sentiment, really, emotional beats ain't exactly CoDpaign's forte. It's still pretty tense for me and I somewhat like the presentation but I kinda feel this level won't be fun on repeated playthroughs
Because everything is exagerated and bland. Kids dont even gaf that their father seems to die right in front of em. Just overall a little on the gay side.
@@aaronski108 Let's break this down: you assume I'm okay with No Russian. I'm not. That level was even more pointless, and existed purely for shock value and to demonize the enemy. The level in this game at least was actually well designed from a gameplay perspective, making it more immersive and tense instead of an on-rails shooting gallery. Second, you assume I'm conservative. I'm not. So I'm wondering why you would make these assumptions?
heroic death of comrade J-12 was especially sad. Having discovered a cell of violent midget terrorists, he did not request reinforcements, did not run away from danger and fought to the end for his Motherland. Truly he is boldest soldier who ever grace battlefield. F for Hero J-12
@@Barri2410The issue is both sides do this, it isn't portrayed as russia being evil and the US being good, irl they're both pure evil and do this to the people of the world constantly
The graphics/audio enhancement provide an experience so visceral it’s almost chilling to play. Makes think a lot about the state of the world we live in currently
I was wondering where I could find the mission with J-12 for ages, turns out that the video was named after unnamed characters that appear for 2 minutes xD
No Russian: a horrifying look at a terror attack from the viewpoint of one of it's (unwitting) perpetrators, which sets off the villain's plot. This: a playable Tom and Jerry episode, where a child literally crawls through a hole in the wall to evade the big scary man. Dunno what to think about this
@@5678sothourn I'll give you that the interrogation scene is probably an apt comparison, but the opening terror attack isn't. My reasoning for comparing No Russian to Farah's origin story is both those levels are specifically about brutal acts inflicted by armed combatants against unarmed victims, in which the player is directly involved, and the mission is supposed to shock the audience. The difference is when we play the 'victim' in Farah's scenario, we're not really the victim because the game gives us the means to defeat J-12, and we're expected to kill the big scary man in order to progress. The choice to give the Russian dialogue subtitles during that particular mission takes away from that atmosphere as well, because whilst it would be nice for us, the player, to understand the conversations that the big scary men with big scary guns and masks are saying, Farah wouldn't understand what they're saying, and that takes us, the player, out of her mindset. We play the terror attack in London from the eyes of Sgt Garrick, who in the scenario is definitely not a victim. Though he engages with the terrorists whilst underequipped and underprepared, he's still a combatant in that scenario. Despite the fact that we start with just a sidearm and have to OSP better weapons from dead bad guys as the fight continues, we still engage in very 'standard' CoD gunplay, even if in the dialogue they worry about how disadvantaged they are. The interrogation scene is a good comparison because like No Russian, you're given the option to dip out of the interrogation altogether by Price, and the scene is meant to be disturbing. But it's only one short scene. tl;dr - I may not have made it clear that I was talking about levels specifically where there is a scary guy with a gun inflicting violence on harmless people without guns and pointing out the difference between these levels from different games. The opening terror attack doesn't count as such a scenario due to our viewpoint.
5:30 Lmao how is that supposed to work? This guy legitimately had his guts impaled by a knife and he still puts up a pretty good fight, a situation where literally everyone in the real world would have collapsed and then died if this happened to them
And how people from Russia should react to this mess? And like western world? In reality Syrians are greeting Russians soldier and Assad forces and no Russian was recorded in shooting civilian crowd)
@@SuperXD111 Every army is guilty of war crimes. Sherman burned Atlanta to the ground & ravaged civilians. Andrew Killed Creek women & children as revenge for Fort Mims.
This is very shocking, we want more missions like this, to show the harsh reality of what is experienced in a war, to show how civilians are the ones that are harmed by war conflicts, although it is difficult because of sensitivity issues and things like that.
@@g3tshotheett Dude spec ops the line is a completely fictionalized story made from scratch. At least with this, the mission and the conflicts that occur in the Middle East resonate and it hits home for many people.
there aren't any sensitivity issues involved (only propaganda ones), however it can create a lot of ludo narrative dissonance making the gameplay very jarring. particularly when it comes to playing victims as power fantasies.
I know. Realistically speaking, we’ve done more harm in the Middle East than the Russians. Right now, Russians are safeguarding areas once controlled by ISIS. Practically America is responsible for the damages in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and Yemen. Not Russia. And from what I remember hearing, the white helmets were in some sort of controversy in Syria, but I forgot. Something about falsifying pictures for social media I think. Sorry to bring politics. Just wanted to answer your questions.
Can't deny, the character design of J-12 was sick. Maybe the fact that it's just the terminator in a gas mask and chest rig that makes it so scary/cool. Or maybe that it's not what a normal soldier wears. I'm rambling, but get my point.
I like how this seemingly innocent mission showing some character development is quickly becoming a debate in the comment section about "dehumanizing" or "vilifying" Russians when it's a fictional video game taking some real world elements. CNN? CIA? Wtf are you guys on about?
This part of this mission is something completely different from the other missions of the game because you see the destruction of the war from the eyes of child and you try to survive I think is one of the most shocking things but in the same time one of the most realistic thing in the whole game
Whats really disturbing about this part of the game is that Infinity Ward portrayed the evil ones "White helmets" as good people while the Russians are portrayed as the bad guys. Its so fucked up no matter if its a game or not. Its like portraying ISIS as good people in next battlefield game
Echelon111999 there’s no real evidence supporting the propaganda against the white helmets, and you’re acting like there aren’t white helmets out there who don’t support the terrorists and just want to help people out of bad situations

They aren't fighting for russia. They are fighting for a rogue general. They are not real russian military men, more like all rogues. So calm your panties.
And this is why you should play the campaign first to understand what's happening Barkov lost his control and took over urzikstan, he made a mercenary group. Left his fucking russians to die for this mercenary group.
Same man. First off In cod4 there Is a civil war In Russia. There are good russians(the ones that work with the West and want their hellp)They are loyal to the governement. And then, there are bad russians. The ones that want to militarize the country and they fight with old black market weapons. They control most of the country. In MW2 the bad russians (ultranationalists) won the civil war. They now contoled the government and what left of the russian army. Makarov a well known terrorist staged an attack on the airport In Russia as a act to manipulate their government In an all out war with the USA. In mw3 they begin a peace treaty but Makarov and his merks kidnap the President and hold him as hostage, to take control over the russian army. They attack most Europe and even France. First with gas attacks, then with an all out war. People are so Ignorant. And In those games there are usualy second villains like:arab soldiers that conducted a coup, american general that wants power, Brazilian weapons dealers, Morrocan paramilitaries, a French bomb maker, somalian weapons dealer.
Well.. if you actually read the story line of the game.. These Russians aren't doing the fighting for Russia. There's more to it that what your already programmed mind wants it to be. @Harrison Stottyeah except in this case using a video games to revive the myth of russia its evil its pathetic and scream cold war all over the place ,as you say we are adults so what about we forgot this old propaganda and also judge ourselves for once rather than portray other as the bad guys but of course this is not going to happen .also im fucking sick of the usa as the hero's and patriotism in video games it was fun once maybe two but when that happens every time, makes me want to vomit, especially those days that the US military treats civilians the same way the SS towards jews ,also children play those Game what a way to inculcate Who are the bad ones in this world by your eyes what a shame you guys dont use your mirror that often
I think this game depicts all aspects of war is a terrible thing and there is no sides to a conflict just one with the bigger gun and who is willing to go all in. Playing through the campaign taught me that one who thinks they're doing good are the most immoral in war. Humanity is a tragedy.
Hector Garcia Garriel the USA isn’t even portrayed as perfect in this game though. You’re just killing rogue Russians as the sas or fighting alongside Farrah as Alex
You know, there was a movie called "Rambo 3". It was about main hero going to Afghanistan to kill evil Russians and help brave Taliban fighters in their strife for freedom. During last frames of film a huge text appear on the screen, saying: "This film is dedicated to the gallant mujahideen fighters of Afghanistan". Of course, creators of these cinema flicks knew very well what they were doing. Of course, they distorted certain real events in favor to their plot, what was created only to hit a certain amount of political points and get some more profits. Indeed, their plan worked well and "Rambo 3" gained three times of what was spent on filming it. But as time passed, especially after 9/11, everyone suddenly understood, how bad that movie was. And now "Rambo 3" remembered mostly for misplaced "dedication to gallant mujahideen", which is pure shame. Of course, this movie was not only one with such plot. There were plenty of them, like "Beast" for example, where soviet tank crew decimated villages while poisoning the water in wells. Here we see the same thing in the plot. Authors never actually wanted to show any kind of "grey morals" or anything like that. Just like the previous time, they took real events and distorted them in purpose of gaining extra political points, and therefore - more profits. And they succeed. This game gonna be a hit and get a decent load of cash. The question is - how soon the plot will spoil and whole story fall apart afterwards? Because as I write down these lines, US army left Kurds one on one with Turkey Army (except oil-reach fields on north of Syria, of course, they are not even hiding it anymore), which is free to use all kind of guns as part of NATO alliance, and already filled the internet with countless proofs of unmotivated violence, executions and usage of radical Islamic militants as their vanguard. And only Russians and Syrians threw all available troops to help Kurds to hold their territory. Yeah all this script went rot pretty fast. But this is not the problem. People need to pay bills after all. But COD is such a huge franchise, that they can sell anything, now matter what inside, and still get their fat checks. But they still willingly choose to play these vile strings of some cheap propaganda, like they are making some cashgrab asset flip unity shooter, but not an AAA product. There were great examples of Battlefield 3, which plot, while based on middle east conflicts, yet demonstrate that sometimes "enemy of my enemy is my friend" politics may backfire very badly. Or SpecOps: The Line, where good and bad sides suddenly flipped during ending, and still story made a lot of sense out of it, making this game literally a work of art. And then there is COD MW. It feels sometimes, like gamedevs have been commissioned by someone with a lot of money, to create a distinct narrative of Russians being able to turn into monsters worse than real terrorists, while using someone else crimes as examples and inspirations for in-game acts of violence, walking into pretty edgy territory sometimes. I don't believe that Pentagon or CIA is hanging on the line to Activision 24/7, but even deeply brainwashed people can't write such idiotic script willingly. Glad I ain't bought this trash.
@@erikthegamer8727 Well, problem is that it's not feels logically. It's feels like initially game was planned with typical bad Russians in mind, but in the last moment they just wrote down that these Russians are rebels to reach a certain "gray morals" quota. Because nor game nor story changes really all that much from Barkov being rogue general.
They are a Russian version of the 33rd, so that means they killed MANY of their comrades loyal to the Russian government, they are not Russian soldiers, but traitors. Heard of the 33rd? They are Americans whom done the same, and you killed countless of these American traitors in Spec Ops the Line. So tell me... Why is it okay that countless of games have “American Traitors/ Mercenaries” as antagonists, but NOT okay if Russia has Traitors and antagonists? Metro is all about this, so it’s only okay if games are made like that if it’s based solely on books?
@@HumanGrunt well, out of all the colors and shades in the universe the had to choose the exact same white of the "white helmets", they could have made them use the classic yellow or bright orange hardhat but no, they deliberately made a Syria-esque war story and put white helmets. The developers also included a reference to Tariq Al Mawt (the infamous highway of death in Iraq) a highway that was obliterated by the Americans and Brittish during the gulf war and in game they change it to "the Russians bombed the highway", i know it's a different universes but by referencing real live events we can asume that they also referenced White Helmets (which again... are affiliated with ISIS) and also the use of poisonous gas (that was proven false in real life).
The White Helmets actually help people. They constantly make video documentation showing Russian war crimes in Syria, so naturally they would want to discredit them. Over the hundreds of documents proving you wrong, a single blurry picture with a red circle and fake caption is enough for you to dismiss the truth.
@@makeway3080 It's quite complex, but White Helmets are not rainbows and sunshine either. They were caught numerous times making fake photos and staging accidents, plus some of their workers and volunteers were found fighting for ISIS and commiting atrocities. Maybe not everyone in organization is so bad of course, and maybe they do actually help, but even if the organization had good intentions in the beginning, they did become a good weapon of Western propaganda.
damnn theyre going all out! also didn't something similar to this happen like recently? thats crazy it was heartbreaking watching this but its whats gonna make this game awesome.
