White Ibis - The New Yardbirds

A mini-documentary on the regular appearance of unusual-looking White Ibis in the Backyard continuing a recent trend of these classic Florida and Gulf Coast birds moving into the cities and suburbs and changing diets. It will take the squirrels a little time to adjust, but they are easy going birds that are a blast to watch. I use no chemicals on the Backyard so the Ibis are welcome to leftover birdseed and all the bugs they can find.

Every so often there’s a pack in my yard just eating. I love just watching them eat.

They are so pretty. I love their wings with the black tips when they fly. I love to see them fly. Their white bodies look so pretty before they take flight!

I have one that is super friendly and follows me around like a puppy when i visit the park. It's like it knows me. It loves my organic non gmo certified sunflower seeds.

Beautiful birds, it’s a shame of how much man kills their habitat. Pesticides. Glad they found your home, squirrels might be jealous.

Hi, our Australian Ibis have black heads, necks, under tips of tails and wing tips. They have adapted to suburban life really well. We call them bin chickens, tip turkeys etc. We have a family that visits our front & back yard everyday. We LOVE 'em - they're such funny buggers - watching them stand up to cockatoos, crows; challenging rainbow lorikeets - it's just so funny to see them snap their long black " chop stick " bills really fast is hilarious. My new yardbirds are turkeys. 😍 mom and her 7 young have visited every morning for cracked corn, oats, and apple slices (I put it out for the crows and deer) for the past 7-8 days and yesterday morning dad popped by alone for a bit! ☺️🦃

I live in Central Florida, on the edge of a preserve. Today I saw my first white ibis on the front lawn, happily going to town on bugs and grubs. I was surprised, because I'm 10 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico, and there are no lakes or ponds nearby. He didn't seem very afraid of me, so he must be used to people. Like you, I don't use any pesticides either on my lawn or in my flower garden. I have a LOT of crows (sometimes 5 or 6 in the yard at once). I've put out both bird and squirrel feeders, so we have an abundance of songbirds. This spring a pair of Carolina Wrens hatched four babies right by our front door! They took our coming and going in stride. It was a pleasant surprise to see a white ibis hanging around the front yard. Thanks for your video, and the information. 😊

The Australian ibis in my backyard learned to steal the cats kibble and soften it by burying it under the lawn with their bills. I noticed the crows started to do it too. They are both very intelligent birds. Thanks for this upload MBB. Loved it. ❤️😍💕

So happy that you take care of these precious birds. It's horrible how man is encroaching on their habitat. God had nature planned for a reason.

They have very gentle faces and their blue eyes are beautiful. They are beautiful graceful fliers too. What are the coppery colored ones I also see called? Are there other colored ones? Or similar species?

Just happened to be visiting Sanibel for the Fourth, is it unusual to see them on the beach? It seems they are in abundance here, perhaps because they are such an environmentally conscious community?
