All true West Indians know white yardie is fully 100%. I think people(mostly Americans) need to learn (1) geography (2) definition of race and (3) definition of culture. The carribean(English) IS NOT A RACE. It’s a culture , you have all types of people representing the culture. I would say as a whole your looking at 60% black 40% Indian and the rest made up of white , Asian, middle eastern, etc.

Hold on a bit, did these idiots know that Jamaica had two " white" Prime Minister the Hon Edward Seaga, and the Hon Michael Manley. Do they know they have a place in Westmoreland they nickname German town. You have a lot of decendants from Germany lived there. Do they know that Jamaica was inhabited by Spaniards and English whites first before they took Africa as slaves there, hence the skin color of dark skin people. Then if the English and Spaniards were there before they brought slave from Africa there, why wouldn't they have decendants of English and Spaniards which have different skin color from the Africans. Stupid people can only asked stupid questions and should get stupid answers.

He actually wasn’t born in Jamaica, his parents decided to bring him to the UK for the first 3 months of his life because they have better medical care. That being said, he grew up in Jamaica and his parents are Jamaican… so he is 100% Jamaican.

Its funny because so many Americans get worked up if a white man has dreadlocks. Yet, maybe I'm wrong but the few Jamaicans ive met and comments I've read from Jamaicans advocate that everyone is allowed to have dreadlocks as Jamaicans seem pretty laid back and accepting in general. Although, of course there are othet black non Jamaicans also that I would imagine have dreadlocks in their culture to maintain their hair and might have a different opinion. But I definitely think it is something very trivial and silly to get so worked up over!

Actually mainstream Jamaicans look down on dreadlocks and their association with Rastafarians. Rastas face a lot of stigma in Jamaica and are othered.

I have been blessed enough in my life to have visited the absolutely gorgeous country of Jamaica and the people were wonderful, the food was delicious and I fell madly in love with the country. I was sad to see the poverty and the actual ghetto there . The cost was so high for local people and even though they were suffering they still were kind. I was saddened to read about how the crime has taken over in recent years and I hope things improve for the amazing people of Jamaica. The resorts police the beaches and don’t let the local people walk around certain areas of their own country because they are worried that they will take business away from them.

My Mother started picking cotton in Texas when she was 7 years old. She worked in the cotton fields for years as did my Grandfather and my Moms brothers and sisters. I picked cotton for a few days when I was a little kid. It sucks!! I am now 71 years old. BTW , my family is white.

Its influenced by the Irish workers who taught the African slaves to speak English. Bare in mind there were several African languages and English slave owners set the English standards.

The Jamaican accent is NOT IRISH. I have been hearing this nonsense for too long. I'm Jamaican, and I do NOT HAVE an IRISH culture. I don't even know what that is. If we sound like the Irish it is purely coincidental. Jamaica was ruled by the British for around 300 years. The Irish barely registered on our island. We have the British educational system, form of government, and judiciary. Even the way our country is separated into parishes towns and districts. We still have a Governor General on the island. Think about this logically people, the British who had such a strong presence on the island we did not develop a British accent? But an Irish accent? Who are you? Really? Who are you?

@@uranus5922 Actually it is true in fact all the islands are influenced by the colonialists: Irish,Scotish British or both! Or the other non English colonialists And if you know Irish ir have heard Irish ppl speak , especially from eastern Ireland , you will recognise the similarities in certain words ! The general English pronunciation is Irish English because the Irish workers were sect to JA to work with the slaves who spoke in various African languages and learned their English speaking with the Irish workers! Etc !

Nobody learns a new language and adopts the accent, no African today learns english and speaks with an American accent for eg. And in these days there are no separation of the races. Separation of the races existed back then. So only second generation Africans back then would adopt the Irish accent. But then why would they adopt an Irish accent? Children will speak the way the mass people around them speak, and these were Africans. We had many colonialists in Jamaica, most predominantly the English, we did not adopt an english accent? The Irish presence in Jamaica was not significant enough for us to have their accent. In my work I see patients, and I often mix the South African (white) accent with the Australian because they pronounce words similarly.@@EarthGoddess369
