Epic adventure and truly amazing landscape. Thanks for sharing. Love those “moments” on trail- truly an incredible feeling. I’d be feeling the same type of way- traversing the crest, seeing the amazing contrast in colors, and those bighorn sheep. Wow. How were the water sources?

Imagine taking your time doing boundary peak, you think you’re though as nails and then comes this ridge line walking dude out of nowhere like “hey can I hitch a ride?”

Thank you, John. I needed this back. Seeing your story and growth of character is so apparent watching these old videos again. Walking to the road.

Hey John, Several months ago I shattered my ankle in a nasty climbing accident, been slowly rehabing and gaining strength. Just wanted to let you know I really appreciate your videos, you have been helping keep me sane in my time away from the mountains! Your awesome, keep living large.

thanks! best of luck in rehab! i've been pretty hesitant to go for it when leading since i don't want to mess up any hiking trips!

Another amazing vid- thanks for sharing! Awesome how you got to get that close to those rams-- I wonder how they get enough food and water in that type of environment..

pretty sure a spring would pop up at some point along a few of the gullies

What are your goals for state highpoints? You trying to catch em all or just just casually grab them when its convenient? Keep editing man we love these!
@JohnZahorian
@JohnZahorian 7 лет назад
it's a fun way to go to places i might not have otherwise gone to. at some point i'll probably make a bigger effort to knock off a lot of them. will probably not catch them all.

devzer0 first was a cow trough but ended up not needing to drink that since the guys working at that experiment station hooked it up. then at the low point of the crest where I slept there was a spring, and then there were some random little seeps scattered throughout the next morning

Thats some beautiful views and area up there. Were you expecting to see other people hiking up threw there if anyone at all and did you get that ride you were looking for, you never said.
@JohnZahorian
@JohnZahorian 7 лет назад
was hoping for a ride to get me through the dirt road to the highway but ended up having to walk it or else wait until the next morning. with time being of the essence i walked real fast to the highway to get a chance at catching a hitch before sunset and lucked out with a quick one to lee vining that night.

>2 bags of chips+50 fruit roll ups Rational? Highest calorie/weight in fruit roll ups? Love your stuff. Too bad I have a day job I love long distance hiking in San Diego.

Another great video. I've thought about doing that myself a few times even planned out how to do it either before or after a hike in the Sierra, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for taking all of us along. How much prep did you put into this? Just looking at maps and decided it was doable? Any info from others who had done it? Thanks again.
@JohnZahorian
@JohnZahorian 7 лет назад
Michael Burgess went to a ranger station and was told it wasn't a thing people do but I figured it was doable even though I had less than two days to do it so I downloaded the maps to Gaia and walked out an hour later

Did you color correct or are you using a sony? I kinda liked the color grading in your other videos better :P Great upload though!

BobKangol I know in some videos he's using the lumix g6 w/ a 20mm lens. But he zoomed up in this one so it may be a point and shoot deal

When you head off trail on your "Whim Walks" How far would you push it on just your initial water load out?

Looks dry as a bone up there. Do you have to hump all your water?
@JohnZahorian

found some on route. i figured there would be something, even if i had to hop off the top and into a gully. i knew it would be less than two days and wouldn't be hot up there at 13'k+

Hey, I really want to drop the trekking poles but I need one to pitch my tent, I see you only carry one is that to pitch your tent? -Have you thought about not carrying it how would you pitch then thanks.
@JohnZahorian
@JohnZahorian 7 лет назад
i usually don't have a pole actually, usually just find one for snow and then this year i kept one with me for a little while longer for some speed things. when i don't have a pole i use a stick.
