Excellent suggestion! Another helpful tip is to have the paint store add only 25 to 50% of the formula for your wall colour, and use that for your trim and ceiling. These adjustments can be automatically made by the computer at the store. Because you are only using 25 to 50% of the paint formula added to the trim and ceiling paint, you end up getting a much lighter version of the exact same wall colour, giving the walls contrast with the trim and ceiling. Use an eggshell on your walls, a satin or semi-gloss on your trim and a flat on your ceiling. If you want a stronger contrast, go for only 25% of the formula. If you want a more subtle contrast, you get the paint store to add in 50% of the wall colour into your trim and ceiling paint. This works well primarily for lighter, more neutral wall colours, and looks fantastic, guaranteeing a perfectly coordinated colour palette. Hope this helps someone. :-)
Your advice is fantastic, but I think you might've mistyped this phrase: **"using 25 to 50% of the paint formula added to the trim and wall"** twice within the comment. I believe you meant to say "to the trim and CEILING". I'm leaving my comment here in case someone takes it word by word to the paint store and then has the employees argue with them that they made exactly what the customer ordered. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@irairod5160 Yes, you are correct! I accidentally said "wall colour", rather than the "Ceiling paint". I edited my comment to reflect my actual recommendation, and thus, it is not corrected. Thanks for pointing out my errors, and take care of yourself. God bless, friend! 🙂
Finally, someone with real advice. Thankkkk you soo much. I spent countless hours looking thru RU-vid videos on picking the right color and just before logging off, disappointed yet again, I clicked on your video and it truly helped me. Thanks for sharing your experience, real advice and just being authentic...You rock! And I am doing the same color for my home, yay!
Honey B. I agree with you. I almost gave up because I actually HATE to pick paint color. One color OMG 😳 LOVE THIS !! I couldn’t be happier!!!! Thank you soooooo much Dan for taking the time to make a short to the point video without dragging it out with a bunch of other non helpful words. Thank you thank you 😊
I just did the same thing. I used Kelly Moore Swiss Coffee on the entire interior and just changed the sheen. I did flat on all bedroom and living room walls and ceilings, but I used semigloss in the bathrooms, for the baseboards, doors, and trim. The painter I hired suggested KM Frost or Bone, which definitely look beige or peach, not white, even though they are considered white. When I said I want Swiss Coffee, he seemed a little surprised, but it is beautiful, fresh, clean, and modern-looking, so I'm definitely glad I didn't let him influence me. Frost or Bone would have looked antiqued and outdated. Another good option would have been KM Broken White, but Swiss Coffee has a slight warmth to it and looks slightly better with my carpet choice.
Smart....I like simple things that work well and this is it. My wife and I have been going crazy trying to decide on a color/color scheme for our 1st floor and this will work well for us. Might throw in a couple of accent walls for some pop but that's about it. Thank you!!!
thank you! painting my house now and i keep telling the contractors that i need to pick a color. gonna grab a paint sample for swiss coffee to see how it pans out. I dunno. i don't like alabaster or pure white or simply white. but alabaster and greek villa are close but i feel still a bit too yellow or creamy. who the heck know picking white paint would be so stressful!

I used Swiss coffee on my kitchen ceiling doors and trim. I get bored of paint and I'm always repainting but this one I've had for 6 years and still love it.
Where have you been?? You have just saved me , I finally know my mistake.omg I spent lot of money buying paints and I did not like all. I will go buy the Swiss coffee eggshell ,flat and semigloss tomorrow thank you so much.
New vision painting how's the answer for everyone's looking for colors for ceilings, baseboard, and walls I'd like to see the video look very interesting
Monochromatic is the new look. I also used Iron Ore on my house front door; but also painted the garage door Iron ore. Current flip, I went with satin on walls, semi gloss on island, cabinets, trim, doors. Spray as much as you can instead of rolling; looks better especially cabinets and doors. I suggest painting your garage door Iron Ore as well.
"This color is part of the Off-White Color collection. Inherently sophisticated and endlessly versatile, the Off-White collection offers subtle nuances of whites that suit tranquil, serene environments as well as creates color-enhancing accents for dynamic spaces."
I wanted a shade of white as well, omg then I realised there’s a million shades of white! I done the sheen level thing as well.👍🏽 your house looks great.
Haha! This video is great. I knew this stuff but love hearing you explain it. I can't believe they sell a separate ceiling white paint. That paint tends to set off a bluish cast if people do not get a lot of sunlight so I also decided to paint the ceiling the same white as the walls and trim except I used matte on the walls and ceiling and eggshell on the trim because I HATE shiny paint. LOL I'm super anal about shiny walls. Anyways awesome job and good luck! Also, don't forget to change out the gold knobs *wink*
Swiss Coffee can have a green undertone depending on the room and lighting. We did our whole basement recently and all we could see was green! So be very careful with this colour. We are in the middle of repainting. Expensive mistake. Having said that, our son has his condo painted with Swiss Coffee and it looks great in there
Every company has there own little blend of the same color. I got mine from Dunn edwards. Maybe they messed it up because I have 0 green tint in any of my rooms and I did outside as well.
I’m in Arizona too and have been thinking about using Swiss Coffee from Dunn Edwards as my painter uses Dunn Edwards. He says he uses the VersaSatin. I see on the spec sheet the base for that IS Swiss Coffee too. What one did you use? VersaSatin, Spartashield, Evershield or something else?
We had our home built and moved in Jan 2020. We also used Swiss coffee by Behr for ceiling to trim and changed sheens. We looked into BM Swiss Coffee but I hated the yellow undertone. Behr SC also looked better with LED lighting which we have throughout the home. It was so easy and no complicated and almost 3 years later we still love it. It’s clean, classy and go with everything. We did use different paint color for both laundry rooms, and master bedroom. Basically our main living and entertainment areas are Swiss coffee except dining and kitchen.
Thank you for answering every question I had!!!!! I was so lost when it came to the ceiling and base boards, thank you so much!!!! Heading to the store now!!!!!!
I'm in the process of remodeling and when I tell you I've gotten major headaches trying to figure out WHAT PAINT to use. You have been a life saver thank you so much. I do have a question what kind of wood floor I'd that? And did you use iron ore in the house or just on exterior
Wow! I love watching interior design videos as much as your new lifestyle videos, and to see them brought together here was brilliant! Concise and informative about paint selections. Your expressive hand gestures were beautiful to watch, a subtle interweaving of jazz hands with the powerful sweep of a trained bodybuilder poser. I see a new career in your future!
I literally just spent 3 hours watching youtube videos on which white to choose and this one was the most simplest but straight to the point of what information is needed. Thank you !
This was said partially in jest 😀 I’m just confused why TVs get mounted so high so often. Designers seem to think they should be at art height but you don’t generally sit to view wall art. Way off topic. The paint advice was helpful as I was starting to go crazy deciding on which white to get. Thanks! (Just wanted to give a bit more info on my reply so I’m not a complete jerk.
We are in the middle of painting our kitchen in simply white. About 95% done but I feel I need to do something with the trim and do another color . I do have it in a different sheen I will do tomorrow. Bleaching my pantry and garage doors and leave in raw wood finish so hopefully that will help . But my cabinets will get done next month in Swiss coffee. I hope it brings in a beautiful contrast. .. btw I love iron ore and also have that in my house. And also have a jeep 👋🏽
Thank you! Yeah that's going to look great. I remember when I first painted everything I thought oh wow I messed up, everything looks so white! But it looks great once you start decorating
Every designer and painter I've ever spoken with or seen videos from recommend "flat" for ceiling as you don't want it bouncing too much light on you, "eggshell" for the walls coz a bit more gloss than flat, easier to clean and reflects a some light but not super shiny, then "semi-gloss or gloss" the shiniest of the 3 and easiest to clean for the trims (baseboards etc.)
@@hocineted7594 I've been told it's not a good idea. For instance if you use flat on walls, it will show marks easily when someone or luggage brushes against it and if you use semi gloss, it won't mark or dirty as easily and it will be easier to clean but it may be too shiny depending oh how much light in the room. What they've said to me is that you can use the same COLOR for ceilings, walls and trims but the SHEEN should be different. I hope this helps 🙂 Good luck on your home
Great video. What Brand Swiss coffee did you use? Dunn Edwards and Benjamin Moore makes Swiss coffee but they are very different one gives a yellow undertone and the other does not. I want to use Swiss coffee for the exterior of a house but want to make sure we don’t get a yellow undertone or the house to be stark white.
Dunn Edwards, it kind of does have the slightest yellowish tint, you can only see it in certain lighting, for exterior I wouldn’t go any whiter because it looks SO WHITE when there’s a lot of sun. Almost blinding
Yes, all other paint companies have it and match it best they can. For example I went with Dunn edwards but Benjamin Moore is the originator of the color
Really needed this. I'm painting my interior Behr Swiss Coffee and couldn't decide on what white for my trim. This is much appreciated. Getting my paint tomorrow. Beautiful job on your house. New subscriber. Thanks.
@@danrockwell1883 I LOVE it! Eggshell for the walls. New to this and got the semi-gloss for the trim matched with a different brand. Not a match. A bit whiter than I wanted but still nice. Should've stuck with Behr. Learning. Thank you sooo much ☺
I’m finally repainting the interior of my house and redecorating, no one has said to use different sheens when choosing white thanks I’m all for learning
Thanks! Do you think eggshell would look nice on the ceiling? I have the same paint and got a little more than I needed and wondering if I should just use it for the ceiling or go buy a flat? Thoughts?
I find it strange that you are the first to mention Kelly Moore's Swiss Coffee....that's the one I want to use but on this thread it's as if it doesn't even exist....why?
It’s all personal preference. White Dove is an off white as well but more of a pure white. Swiss coffee is more off white which means you’ll see a bit less as far as blemishes but they’re pretty similar whites.
@@danrockwell1883 I have painted my living room Swiss coffee but it looks more greige it doesn’t look white and it’s too creamy, I want a color that is close to white but it’s warm in the same time, does white dove look more brighter and whiter than Swiss coffee ?
