We took our Hiker Trailer for a southwestern adventure. We started the trip at White Pocket Recreation Area in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. The road there requires 4x4 and high clearance. However it is not difficult unless you go to the dispersed camping area at the very end of the road. The last 1/4 mile was very deep sand. Our Nissan Xterra would have had no problem without the extra weight of the trailer and extra passengers. Getting back was no problem being downhill, on the way out we needed to use our traction boards about 10-12 times, otherwise we would have had to dump the trailer to get back to main parking lot. Then drop the trailer and go back for the supplies.
Next we headed to Dixie National forest just outside Bryce Canyon. We dispersed camped off Cabin Hallow Road. The next day we went to Bryce Canyon National Park. While the views were amazing, we prefer the solitude of the National Forests to let our German Shorthaired Pointers join in all the fun.
After Bryce Canyon we went back to camp for the evening, then headed out the next morning. On the way out of Dixie National Forest we stopped by the information center and hiked the Pink Ledges trail. This was an amazing way to look up at some hoodoos on a dog friendly trail. (Please use common sense and leash you dogs if you do not have perfect recall to leash back up, lots of dogs using this trail).
We quickly stopped by Horseshoe Bend on the way back.
