Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make White Sandwich Bread. White Sandwich Bread may not be a fancy bread and it may not get a lot of attention. Yet it's the bread I turn to most often. It's instantly recognizable with its billowy loaf shape (probably why it's often called Pan Bread) and its lovely golden brown crust.

I feel like a scholar intently watching and listening to my professor lest I miss a tiny bit of information! I'm so happy you shared this with us, Stephanie! All the tips are worth taking notes of. And even though I have written down the recipe from your website, I would still come back here and watch it while I make this wonderful bread and I'm gonna start making it now. I just made this recipe this morning/afternoon and my bread came out amazing! Wonderful flavor and lovely texture! Well worth the work!! I made tomato sandwiches with it and the bread didn’t get soggy or mushy, held it’s shape well, and tasted so good! I highly recommend this bread recipe!

Thank you for a beautiful bread tutorial. I love the process of making our daily bread, and I love watching someone who enjoys it enough to take it leisurely and to explain every detail. I'm in my nineties, and never tire of watching someone else's hands lovingly handling the dough, as my hands love to do.

Naomi Welch you didn't ask me but I bake and cook a lot and have been really getting into bread baking lately. These are a few things I would recommend for bread: A digital kitchen scale with tare (zero out) function (scale is also useful for all types of baking, pastry and other recipes (like portioning meatballs, or dividing bulk purchases, etc), a good quality instant read thermometer, a good quality pizza stone, a plastic dough/bowl scrapper (they're like $2), and a bench scrapper. Maybe Stephanie can do a video or add to my list. I'd love to know the size of the stainless bowls she uses for mixing.

i learn something new today about temperature of the dough and developing flavor .. never saw anyone uses cold water before i was surprised .. lots of effort but the result worth it .. thank so much for this great video.

Hi Stephanie, I just got a new stand mixer and have been looking for new recipes to try. I am from Australia. I have used other recipes from your website before and I tried this one today. Amazing!!! I also love that you use grams with your recipes - I am hesitant to try cup recipes as cup sizes are different depending on where you are in the world, using grams makes baking US recipes so simple and your videos are always helpful and informative. Keep doing what you're doing, it is certainly helping me discover the joy of baking!! 😄

I tried this recipe over this last weekend, and it was the most DELICIOUS sandwich bread I've made thus far! (I'm a bit of a beginner) I thought King Arthurs' sandwich bread recipe was the best until I tried yours! It is not as dense as the ones I have tried in the past, which I liked. It's very soft inside, and has a wonderful flavor! My family loved it! I will be baking this bread again and again...It is worth the time it takes, which is 90% just waiting...it was very easy with my kitchenaid stand mixer. I did butter my loaves when I took them out of the oven...my whole house smelled divine! I've also made your chocolate cake recipe with the coffee, WOW!...so delicious as well. I am going to try your croissant recipe next(wish me luck) I love how all your videos are so jam packed with wonderful tips...I have learned so much from you! (I went out and purchased a scale and LOVE using it :) I enjoy YOUR demonstrations better than the ones I have purchased in the past...I always come back to your channel. Keep the awesome recipes coming... and I hope to see more of Rick and your super cool dog in future videos....btw, Rick does an awesome job!...keep up the good work! :)

I am making your bread almost for 1 year. It tastes really good. The pre-fermented dough really enhance the flavor in the bread.. It freezes very well. Now I didn't like the tastes of storebought bread. You are the best tutor for baking. Thank you so much

Your recipes are all fantastic. Best of all for me is having weight measurements. Makes all the difference in baking. Especially for flour. Your cornmeal scones are wonderful also this bread.

AHH I remembered making Challah Bread in culinary school and learning about the window test. And I remembered that I would always snap it as I was too aggressive with the dough! A very fun way to take out your anger on! :D HAHA. Also it was my first time making Challah and when it came to the braiding part, that was really hard. The dough started to rise while I was trying to form it as it was becoming more warm as when I kept fiddling around with it! Great Experience though!!!

Baked this today and it came out great, i made 1 large loaf in a 1 kg pan had sufficient to make a small plated loaf like a KitKa ( challah) loaf. Found here in Spain the bread flour is probably not as strong as the American one and i had to add a bit more flour to get the right consistency. It rose beautifully despite having to adjust the flour, now I’m just waiting to taste…😁😁

She cannot be living in North America her kitchen is very warm because she used cold water and her loaves still rose considerably in the end I was pleasantly surprised.

For a total bread novice like myself, I found that starting with simple pizza doughs was a good way to get comfortable with the process, especially the no-knead variety. I hope we'll see some pizza from you in the future.

I make a bread dough that can be fermented between 12 hours to 60 hours in the fridge. That adds a slight sourdough flavor with a moderate sourdough texture. Of course, the longer you let the starter or the final dough ferment the more of a sourdough flavor and texture it has. I also use a pinch of ginger in with the yeast. Why? It comes from an old, old recipe I once read about. Ginger helps the yeast along. But only a pinch will do. Any more and you could change the flavor of the finished product.
