This video compares a loose white sapphire vs a diamond engagement ring for their performance.
In the first segment, we compare the appearances of these 2 gemstones in office lighting to see their contrast patterning and brightness.
In the second segment, we place the white sapphire beside the diamond under sunlight environments to assess their fire and sparkle factor.
As you can see in both these tests, the diamond ring is hands down the better option. The white sapphire is inherently hazy and is poorly cut.
For full details of the ring, visit this url: beyond4cs.com/2015/06/vintage...

Notice how the right ring has more embellishment on the side, while the left is just plain. I think the white sapphire is beautiful!

Weak video! Obviously bias towards diamond with that horrible band holding the sapphire.
@blackberrybunny

I agree-- that band was really bugging me and then I realized it was asymmetrical, a trait I really really hate. The diamond's band sells for just under $1,000 without the diamond. How could he compare the two? One was ugly, plain, and off centered, and the other one was quite pretty and flashier.

Sapphire is a 9hard 1.48ct to 1.49ct scratch easly more delicate catches light in a white clear look medium bling Diamond is a 10hardest 1.50ct none scratch surface catches light more in color highest bling over all they are kissing cousins if you ask me one has more value in weight wise but both are beautiful if you choose White Sapphire or Diamond you will still get close to the beauty of them both according to how it catches your eye.

For anyone watching this, while BOTH rings are beautiful, the white sapphire is JUST as beautiful as the diamond and for a fraction of the cost. If you can afford a diamond and WANT a diamond then by all means...do you. I would wear either of those rings proudly, you just have to put more care into keepin sapphire clean, but so what? also to note a diamond is a 10 and a sapphire is a 9 in terms of hardness, not a HUGE decrease.

This is just like the moissanite video... you took a poorly cut sapphire to an ideal cut diamond... of course it won’t have the same fire & brilliance! I have all 3 stones set on different rings and all three are beautiful and incredibly durable. The moissanite gets the most compliments out of all 3 bc it has more sparkle. Even when dirty. The difference I can see other than the amount if sparkle, is that the moissanite has a bit more of a rainbow sparkle due to it being doubly refractive.

@@yannychen6994 moissanite has a 2.65-2.69 refractive index. Diamond has a refractive index of 2.42. Nice try, nice lie. Do not use DIAMOND to compare with moissanite, because they are totally different things! Higher refractivity, higher luster, no fracture planes, moissanites will win. We can sit here all day discussing your arbitrary decisions about what makes anything but a diamond a "semi-gem" to you. Anything that isn't a diamond is "too sparkly/too not a diamond," from what I tend to see 🙄 It's also too ethical and too pretty compared to a diamond. Scary thing for people who invested in diamonds that there's something better than what they have, for a fraction of the price. I'm frankly not even sure what you were saying when Moissanite's fire was "not clear."

the gemstone market is all about deceitfulness to get the consumer to spend the most amount of money possible. There is very little difference between these two stones and a moissanite. People need to stop calling it a diamond engagement ring, and just call it an engagement ring. A colorless stone is a colorless stone. The true mark of quality is in the manufacturing process. Otherwise, it's just a stone. Diamonds are a rock. Sapphires are a rock. Moissanite is a rock. Under a VERY specific lighting and staring at it for minutes on end, you might notice the difference. You might also guess right or wrong. The only thing that matters is how good it looks. Women who think their engagement rings NEED to be diamonds are full of it. Nobody can afford a beautiful diamond. If you really want a diamond ring, you'll probably end up with a poor quality one because that's all Bob Cratchet could afford. But say no to Moissanite, because it's not "traditional." A tradition created by a greedy salesman in the 1930s. People need to get a reality check. Weddings are unaffordable. Get a moissanite. Lie to your wife about it if you have to, because she will not be able to tell the difference. Then have a small wedding with people that actually matter. Go on a honeymoon with the money you didn't spend on a ludicrous wedding and rock sized at less than half an inch diameter. Don't progress bad traditions. Keep the good parts and toss the parts that are trash.

Moissanites are expensive as well. For what's its worth, get a CZ for people who think diamonds are affordable. Or even do away with the engagement ring in the first place.

That's why my wedding band is a half eternity moissanite in white gold. I think it cost $300 max? It sparkles nicely, is eco-friendly and nobody knows the difference. For our wedding, we did a destination wedding with only about 15 guests in Maui for about $10,000. It was lovely and we got a vacation out of it -- and WAY less overwhelming than a normal wedding would've been. Not worth buying into the hype.

Meh... the diamond's refraction is a heavy hitter but... the sapphire is a tiny tiny bit under par with the diamond. I don't see how the diamond could be more valuable for not giving an astonishingly more visual display. Moissanite on the other hand blows the both away. Although I myself am liking the way the refraction of a diamond hits you like a flash camera, the moissanites don't flash as hard, but the sparkle is more rainbow and you can admire the colors more. I'm kinda in between on those two aspects. When you throw in cost though... idk if the diamond is worth it for the $$. A diamond looses 50% of it's vaule after you purchase. They're marketing scams.

Diamonds are very beautiful but very expensive. I can't afford one right now though so I have been trying to find an alternative. I tried lab white sapphire, cubic zirconia and moissanite and ended up returning them all because they just don't compare. They look pretty in photos but look super cheap on my finger. I ended up buying a very affordable light blue sapphire that I love...it is sparkly and pretty and doesn't look like I am trying to pass it off as a diamond. .,..

I chose a 2 carat cushion cut pastel lavender sapphire ring from EidelPrecious on etsy. It's so beautiful, it's my favorite color and the setting is perfect, antique and with character. It's PLENTY sparkly, I really call BS on this "diamonds are more sparkly" thing. I did choose a sapphire over an amethyst to get the extra sparkle. But I would say for sapphire vs diamond, the sparkle difference is negligible, and they both have the same "watery" depth vs moissanite which is "whiter" and throws rainbow sparkles and looks more "synthetic" to my eye. Moissanite is almost too sparkly, which proves that sparkle isn't everything. Plus with sapphire you can get a BIGGER ring which is going to be more sparkly just by increased surface area. Biased video lol sapphires are not inherently poorly cut and hazy isn't bad if you wanted a colored stone anyway. Purple diamonds are extremely rare, and the few light purples are like extremely expensive, many tens of thousands to even hundred thousand dollars. Now pastel purple sapphires...beautiful, sparkly and no more hazy than a purple diamond anyway and more affordable so you can actually afford a gem 10x bigger

the stones are not cut identically. You can tell by looking at them when the face is at the camera. The cut of a stone makes a HUGE difference in the sparkle, a much bigger difference that almost any other factor. What I'd like to see is a well cut white sapphire vs the same cut in a diamond. These 2 cuts are not the same quality of cut.

I bought a "tennis" bracelet at the flea market, it says roman at the clasp. The metal has a green tint in the corners. But easily cleaned. I took it to this jeweler at the same market I bought. She told me she didn't know the metal, and she looked at the diamonds, and told me they were white sapphire (she sold mainly the rocks, so people could custom design/make they're own jewelry, they would buy the rocks from her). It has atleast over 20 rocks. Idk, think I'll take it to pawn shop and see what it actually is...

I admit I have some sort of "commitment issue" when it comes to my engagement rings. I like variety depending on my mood! And so I really like white sapphires for that reasons because they are so inexpensive and look classy and nice. But I admit white sapphire doesn't have the wow-factor that diamonds have. I also think moissanite looks fake and the fire looks more flashy and less depth than a real diamond.
