Yes. It’s human nature to think something is being taken from you rather than just given to others. That’s why this is such a hard thing to eradicate. Look at the leadership in Congress. They would rather get in bed with white supremacists and maintain their ‘power’ than stand for democracy. That’s how foul racism is.

@@chuck7916 It was the same in very rural Alabama where I spent my childhood, and like the kids you described, I moved away as quickly as I was able. I've been away for decades, but I still hear the same sort of nonsense when I visit relatives (most of whom, have never been on an airplane) over Christmas holiday. I remember in very early grade school a very loving teacher pulling 10 year old me to the side and telling me that the N word was not a word that I should ever use, and helping me understand why. The word was part of my normal vocabulary as a child. And the culture back home in which I was steeped as a child has not changed. They are more quiet about it, especially when I and others who have moved away visit, which says to me that they at least know that it's not acceptable - even if they don't believe that it's wrong.

Why would that ever be a good thing? This guy seems to think that life is something _other_ than *competition.* Those who _can_ win, do... Great presentation. Your breakdown was spot on. Gave me memory of several military situations I have lived through during active duty. Fortunately on most occasions I had people step up and do what was right. My all time favorite example was overseas in Okinawa Japan 1978. Without being long winded, this person became the mentor and example I always tried to aspire too during active duty. Even to this day it still inspires me. I also firmly believe as you, that our education system needs to be re-vamped. Much of what I learned (about slavery, oppression and more)during my college years should have been taught during grade school and higher. Thank you so much. Wishing you much more success on your goal. USMC Ret.

As a white female who grew up in Detroit I saw a lot of racism. I was also lucky enough to be exposed to many different cultures. When I left Detroit I literally shook the dust from my feet and never looked back! I was so disgusted by the bad attitude of most of the people living there that it took a very long time to purge that from my system. Now I am very grateful to say that I see what's on the inside of a person, NOT what is on the outside! Thank you so very much for your 15 minutes! 🌞🌞🌞🙏

I, too, broke the generational stranglehold of racism. I was born in Sand Mountain, Alabama in 1965. Sand Mountain has been called the Hells Kitchen of the South. But fortunately, I started asking questions early. I just couldn't, as a child, understand why anyone would want to judge someone because of their race. And when I had children, I taught them the truth. Racism can be stopped in just one generation if we are willing to teach our children the simple but profound Golden Rule.

@@charlessomerset9754 That's a great start! I would then go another step further and say: "treat others as good as possible and so that no one suffers". If we stayed only with how "we would be treated" we would also only treat others like how WE think they would be treated, not how they actually need/want be treated. Not as in "they get what they deserve", though, but "give them what they need to be happy if you can and as long as it's not at the cost of somebody else". In my opinion and experience, the former requires and works only at a common and "good" ethic ground but lacks true compassion/empathy for the other.

'Peeing while black"..A laundromat where I used to go here in New Orleans: Has a locked rest room. You must ask to get the door opened. I walked in, said hi to the owner (an Asian lady who already knew me). I started my wash. When I put my clothes in the dryer, I got into a very interesting chat with a guy, who I'd noticed about a half hour ago, doing HIS wash. We chatted about everything. Very pleasant, very lively. Then he excused himself, and went to ask the woman if he might use the rest room... She went ballistic, "Only customers can use the bathroom!! You are not a customer.." Now, I could have kept my mouth shut but I did not. "This man was here before I walked in. He's in this dryer next to mine!" I said to her. She seemed disappointed she was wrong, made a face and walked away, opening the bathroom for the guy, whose name BTW was Kendrick...As I left later on, he was outside taking a smoke break, and thanked me. I am glad I could help. But... in a just world, incidents like that shouldn't even happen..
