These conditions caught the teams by surprise and a little unprepared but considering how rough it was no solid water came aboard either boat ... we would have added 25 lbs of ballast to the stern seat had we known ... to actually row the 40 miles across in those conditions in 9 1/2 hrs is pretty amazing ... over 4 knots ave speed! Correction: the sailing kayak shown at about 2:35 into the video is actually Team St.Brendan, a solo effort on board sr/v LocoMotion. Team Whitehall was awesome and powerful as they passed me going to weather. Very impressive effort.

They look like the seats should be slightly farther aft to allow the bow to rise more. There doesn't seem to be enough bow bouyancy in the rough seas. The sterns sit very high.

Its a Classic Whitehall design with over 400 years of development behind it ... hardly any water came aboard in the worst conditions although it looks like ti should have...
