13 yrs for me, and yeah this is killer and its how it was meant to be played, John Sykes was one up till Coverdale's ego shat forth the late 80s version
@@GreatWhiteLionSnake I personally love the type of chorus where it's very present but not that heavy if you know what I mean, but I haven't used it in ages so don't remember how you'd dial that specifically. His tone is better in Crying in the Rain than here. I think it's more compared to your average guitarist that probably lacks self-awareness of how bad their tone is lol, unless it's mostly intentionally and/or just not everyone's cup of tea like Pantera or Death. I'm 36 and pretty talented at guitar myself, comparable to this kind of talent, but around college I started to regret 2 years of grinding(4-6 hours even school nights and 8+ a day weekends) and I got to a point where I could play almost any Metallica solo, and could do the into to Trilogy Suite Op 5 on acoustic guitar(figuring mastering it on acoustic it'd be easier on electric) hitting ever not on time. But by college I realized I'd have to grind like that another few years just to get that 10% better, and be able to play more technical stuff Yngwie can play and wasn't sure I'd ever be able to. That, and playing at the talent show senior year, and how people at college would literally label me a 'musical genius' or see me like a guitar god, otherwise there was toxic envy, both made me really uncomfortable and both that and the kind of time I put into guitar made relating to people difficult. Also I was falling into the dreaded uncreative souless shredder trap hard, so I just decided to stop playing, ended up being around 16 years aside from a few times I tried getting back into regular practice for a few months. Around 30 I learned some of Still of the Night and the solo, took me 3 weeks just to memorize the solo, and after a few months I was maybe at half speed, it's crazy how difficult it is. But I think if I get back into it and stay consistent I could eventually do Crying in the Rain. After dropping out of college the first time(I was manipulated by family into it) I lived/worked on the family farm until 30 when we got rid of farm animals, now I work 2 other jobs and am saving up for my own house on family owned land so still living with them. But I was a functional closet alcoholic until 30, and at one point I ran out of money for vodka for 3 days, couldn't sleep a minute for 3 days and had to work all 3 days. I'm still crazy good at dealing with lack of sleep, I was only borderline having difficulty functioning the 3rd day. But I was JUST nodding off a minute before the alarm goes off the 3rd time, I got so mad I threw my alarm at the wall and punched my dresser a few times, ended up with a permanent right wrist injury where the outer part of the wrist joint is offset, more prone to carpal tunnel syndrome but IDK about arthritis. So I have to be careful not to overtrain and use finger weights and wrist splints on both hands at night to help prevent repetitive stress injury in general, but I think it'll mostly just slow progress, I'll have to lock my wrist and learn to play moving the whole forearm more and maybe blend that and wrist technique, but growing up I always used my wrist and developed the crap out of the wrist muscles, not even realizing that's not generally considered proper technique or even wise to do, my guitar teacher at college couldn't believe how I could play like that and was worried about it causing wrist injury lol, but I think as long as I'm careful and stick mostly to physical therapy to train the wrist I'm still good. I really need to save up for a proper great guitar and amp too, I'm thinking a Dean Zelinsky Tagliare Z-glide and a Boss Katana would be a great start, then eventually an all tube amp, maybe a Laney Ironheart which seems amazing both for metal but also a dirty blues sound, could be amazing for Whitesnake and Ratt. Then maybe a few Jackson Dinkies in natural oil with upgraded hardware just to get a few different sets of Bare Knuckle pickups in a great guitar for the money, love how the natural oil allows the body to breathe as it vibrates. Then an extended range multi-scale with some progessive rock/metal type pickup and I'd be pretty much set and build a home studio, will probably get a keyboard, bass, and electric drum set too as I've had piano lessons as a kid, I've always wanted a violin and know sax too so a nice sax would be really cool.
12 years late to this party, but man what a kickass cover! 'Still of the Night' and the hairband rock of the 80's was the anthem of my teenage coming of age years, and getting my first car. I remember blasting this song, Slaughter's Up All Night, Scorpion's Don't Stop At The Top, Def Leppard's Photograph, Van Halen's Dreams, Tora-Tora's Phantom Rider, and a plethora of others, driving to my first job, nightly. Damn... isn't it tragic that it isn't until you're "old" that you fully understand the meaning and wisdom of the saying "youth is wasted on the young".
@@xXAVENCLANXx They did, but most of the memorable riffs were written by John Sykes. And it takes nothing away at all from Vai, he's one of the greatests in his own rights even without his works at Whitesnake.
We all know how difficult Sykes' stuff is to play.. but Mr Tylerbag here delivered a FLAWLESS Execution. The Technique, Tone, Heart and Soul he put into this Performance... this is just Brilliant!
"It was picked out by ear so it isn't spot on. I also put a few improvised solo bits at the end :)" *Plays song fucking spot on* Your're one smooth criminal mate, top cover!
I've seen a lot of guitar covers on RU-vid over the years, but this one really stays with me. Dude plays with so much flair and personality while doing total justice to the original too. I saw another cover of this song with 100K+ views but this completely puts it shame!
I think this had way less than 100K views when I posted that 10 months ago. Now it has 223K! And a ton of new comments in the past 9 months. That makes me really happy to see you're getting the recognition you deserve for this magnificent cover, Tyler! 👍🏼🏆
I would consider this the quintessential "guitar hero" song of the 80's, a decade which had a plethora of awesome guitarists. This cover does the original justice plus he expands and puts his own twist on it. Bravo!!!!
There are like 1,000 videos of this and none reach this level of perfection. I had only listened 2 people playing this better... John Sykes and Doug Aldridge. Enough said. I'm amazed.
And yet another Whitesnake Still Of The Night guitar cover that I keep coming back to watch...so many things I like about this cover from the rig set up,the smoothness, the original improvised leads..you really nailed this cover man..great job 🤘😎🤘
I heard And watched this10 years ago, it still sounds incredible. One of my favorite covers. You are the reason why I bought an Epiphone. Loved it so much, I got 4 more.
I've been watching a bunch of these cover videos.. Other guys are playing it differently than you, but yours sounds the way Sykes intended. Spot on, brother!
Man, this is fantastic playing Tylerbag!. That Epi sounds fantastic, this is a great video great guitar playing! I love the ad-lib end solo's at the end!
On a 100 scale, this brings in a solid 91 or 92. A VERY, VERY good cover. Great tone. All without a whammy. Certainly one of the best covers on RU-vid. Nice job hombre.
Wow, I love it! Esp at 3:55 when it kind of goes from like staccato to smooth... Just like the album. And you looked like a kid! (or at least you did 5 years ago, lol) great job!
I hear ya on that! I don't even remember being 23, lol! But I read you don't play much anymore? Sniff. Why'd you give it up? (and by the way, my son's name is Tyler. 😆)
+Colette J The passion for it has just diminished over time. My time and energy is spent more on spiritual studies now. I still play now and then but not 8-9 hours a day like I used too haha
Oh, I see. Spiritual studies are a good thing. 😊 wow, 8-9 hrs a day! That takes real commitment. You seem like a sweet, talented, and well rounded young guy. Best of luck in all you do, and thanks so much for sharing your music. 😃
without a doubt, this is the best cover I have seen so far....on YT...and I have seen more than a few tonight! Great sound, playing and feel for the song!
Hey Tyler, what Kind of strings you have on this Baby? Or have you simply fingers of steel, to bend the highest string to the middle of the neck like nothing? I have Major Problems to do things like that....
ToleroCH I don't play guitar but I saw that too and didn't know the right words. Yeah man that's insane how he bends the strings crazy far like its nothing!! I remember thinking to myself "Wow can you really bend guitar strings that easily? I never knew that." LOL
Syclone0044 Yeah, it looks so easy, but if you ever try, you cut your fingers to blood. I guess i was reading, that he did practicing seven houers a day for a while. So with that training it should be possible to do that. He is a absolute Pro in my eyes, didn't understand why there are 20 dislikes at the time.....maybe some jealous and despair guitar players...?
I don't want to try and bend my strings that far because I'm afraid of breaking them xD idk why, I just don't like that feeling of bending them and they break and I get cut xD especially the High E
My god you know the FretBoard inside and out. Def playing by ear because you chose the path of least resistance. Well done really impressive and inspiring !
Well when we Play I will let you know Trish because we will be playing this one and I remember you by: Skid Row and so many other Great Songs! I Live in Anniston,AL. and I'm sure we will be playing some Bars and Clubs around here to get back Rolling! But I will Def. let you know when our First Gig is for sure...and all other Gigs we will be playing so if you would like you could Take a little Vacation and come see us..Would love to have ya at a Show you would Def. enjoy it for sure!!!!!!!!!!
Prob don't read all the post, but I had to create an account to say my peace. It's a shame (your fans here on this sight) won't get anymore of downloads. I grew up in the time all this music was created. Your talent is beyond compare, watching your videos, I've been entranced and in amazement for the last few hours. Searching for a word that exemplifies what I think about your playing abilities, and I cant. Wow, amazed, dumfounded, blown away, just doesn't cover it. I got on you-tube to research some info regarding my new dirt bike, and well, I've been watching your vids. I haven't read anything regarding your training, or practice habits, and only minor quips about your equipment. Not certain if you consider yourself a technical, or feel type of artist. I suppose I relegate myself to watching re-runs of your masterful covers. In a selfish way, I feel almost cheated. Good luck & have fun on your journey. & thanks for sharing what you have thus far.
Tylerbag Really sorry to read you've lost the inspiration to keep playing, I for one miss your playing, as you say, there may be other "technically" better players on here but technique don't mean shit without feel, which you have in spades, I have a damn fine guitarist friend who used to live here in Weymouth whose interest wained but has now continued, hopefully it will to you, heres hoping, all the best........by the way check out my friend on here...Jon Storey. Good luck for the future
Out. Fucking. STANDING!!! Liked, no LOVED the little touches of Zakk in the fills there. This is like bastard lovechild of John Sykes and Zakk Wylde, which is to say it's fucking AWEsome!!! \m/ :D \m/
Nick Pap The up position is the bridge pickup, I switched it to be like EVH setup. It felt better for me to hit the selector downwards for the neck pickup.
Wow....Totally awesome man! One of my favorite Hair-band songs...you nailed it... I love the additions you make during the instrumental break! Keep up the good work Bro!
One of the coolest things I have ever seen on youtube. Great playing and sound. I have been looking at youtube for years and this is the first time I actually felt the need to post a comment!
I rarely take the time to log in and comment on these things even though I'm often impressed. But this commanded a response. This was sublime! Clearly you have spent a lot of time mastering this song and it shows. Timing, pace, and feel all coalesce to really bring back my 80's to me. I have gone to school on this video to play this song better, but really am in awe of the talent and emotion you put into your play. Thank you!
Got this tagged as a favorite. It's brilliant Tylerbag. Love the add on's you put in. Give's it more of a personal touch. The harmonics and mutations on the 6th string, aggressive palm muting 3:23-4:00 volume controls, all nice work. All epic. I keep watching this as I practice my effort. The key difference? Mine isn't RU-vid worthy, yours Sir, yours is. Keep playing mate. Keep playing.
