I still watch this to see how a real voice just stands up and flat footed...SINGS! This is a rehearsal. No one today sings like that anymore. Say what you will about Whitney. Good. Bad. Ugly. The bad and ugly? No one cares. She had a gift. And blessed us. All good!!!
You never got the same performance from Whiney. Every live performance was different. She never sang a song the exact same way. She was phenomenal. Whitney's golden voice was unmatched, and her runs were the best. Like no other. Nobody could do it like The Voice.
I'll never forget watching this performance on the show (not this rehearsal). I watched with my mouth hanging open. She killed it! She made it look so effortless. Whitney, you should have been remembered for so much more. May the angels receive you tonight.
I've watched so many Whitney videos. What is so amazing about her is every live perfomance was different. She had such a great ability to sing in the moment...different phrasing, runs, etc. It would have been impossible for her to lip sync. She's all over the scale with that tremendous voice!!
She is the only singer, male or female, who would sing the same song so differently each time and you still wouldn't know which version you prefer cause they are all brilliant. Best live singer ever!!
The music world will never be the same without her - just seems so unreal now that she's gone!! No one will ever come close to that VOICE in my lifetime!!

@@aguti7920 it sounds nothing like the studio version. She goes off the cuff a few places, like omitting the biggest note at the end of l the bridge "I'll be your baby______" . TONIGHT was missing.
lordy. i need to stop watching stuff on youtube from her. even a rehearsal makes me sad and miss real talent. funny to me how the music business manufactures....well...do not get me started. lol. love whitney really not a fan of music today. God bless everyone.

But what we hear out of Whitney's lips for so many years. His voice was the product of a miracle, a divine manifestation and this is unparalleled
It really is, this performance is proof of that. I haven't heard on cover of this that even comes close hers and in this live version I think she sounds better then the studio version.
Mariah could, G5’s wouldn’t be as full though (maybe even shrill and unsupported) and her vocals would likely be breathy and pitchy too (nodules + she didn’t really do hard tempos like Whitney nor songs that required a lot of quick and rapid belts)

Hulu needs to include the musical performances for SNL on Hulu Plus, and Itunes would make a lot of money if people could buy just the musical performances from every season of SNL.

Not Beyonce and Mariah, Mariah in her prime is amazing, (closet to Whitney in my opinion), and Beyonce is a great singer, too. Miley, Nicki, Rihanna, Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift would do just well though.
Whitney can no longer be in this dimension. She, like everyone, have/had choices. She took her life into her hands and allowed herself to succumb to a substance, unfortunately. So thank the"LORD", that he/she/it gave us the ability to create things such as "modern" technology, where we can view most any performer or entertainer. It's have if we have frozen them in time. We just have to remember Whitney, or for that matter, anyone, as they were, whether personally in our lives or not.

2:49 - 3:07 This is the only live video of her actually singing this part. For whatever reason during all the other performances she'd always just lip that part.
No she didn't dodge it. You can tell by the last note that it's her voice and it matches with the phrases preceding it. She dodged it in the actual tv performance but not here. You can see her lips moving and there's another video on RU-vid that clearly shows she is singing that part. I didn't realize that part of the song was so difficult but if even Whitney was prone to avoid it, it must be. I'm glad there's at least one video of her singing it love this is such a gem!
SystemofaDownsupport she did dodge it here. When she sang “be. Your. Baby” she went down for the word baby and the back up did the word “tonight” which was the highest note of that phrase. In the acapella she did on that show she did the whole phrase with that note at the end
Of course not. This song is like her "Love On Top" (and Bey doesn't even perform that song fully live.) It's not that she couldn't it was a matter of preserving her voice.

She did lip very briefly a few times, but it was obvious and rare. A few performances of I'm Every Woman, the high belt near the bridge. The last performance she did this was her last concert, but she used it as a backing vocal and didn't attempt to persuade the audience it was her actually singing.

@pnmastr Hi! My friend taped (back in VHS days) a show by SNL called Saturday Night Live Music A Go Go. They showed a compilation of music until that point. Many short clips but they showed live performances by Whitney, this rehearsal song, and Stevie, and Pearl Jam, and Roy Orbison...etc. My husband, a musician, had to assure me that Whitney's performance was live, because it was just that perfect. We lost someone special.
@pnmastr - I remember the live perf of the I'm Your Baby Tonight number, she was wearing cow-print bottoms and a leather coat. Gorgeous and crazy talented. She made it look effortless.
