This is breathtaking. No pre-recorded live vocals, no autotunes, no “audience help me out.” No hitting notes and breaking them down into runs. She just hit the notes and held them clean and with such a powerful mid-belt. On key! This was back in the day when you had to be talented to be famous. I miss those days.

i just came from watching dolly parton singing this and i LOVE the difference between the way they both sing it. Dolly sings it in a way that seems like she's already moved on from it, setting the boundaries almost as if she's writing a letter after coming to full acceptance of the situation. Whitney sings it in a way where it seems she's coming to that conclusion on the spot, the cut is still fresh and it's a difficult parting in the moment. both versions are passionate but coming from different places in their hearts. This song is beautiful and anyone could make it sound amazing if it's being sang from their own personal experience or feelings on the message.

She was so unbelievably beautiful. Everything about her. Her voice, looks, spirit. Even if the galaxy is teeming w life, she'd still stand out above all as something mindbogglingly divine. Yea, she'd make aliens weep.

This performance sounds better than the original and only she could do that. At that time, she was the best singer in the world. I've watched thousands of videos on RU-vid of random girls singing ballads, and still to this day, nobody lights my eyes up the same way she did. You could put all the greats in a row, but for some reason, she'd stand out that little bit more. She truly was in her own lane.
