No matter what people say, Miss Houston always sung LIVE. She was a real talented lady, and she always kept it real, never faked shitty smiles and lipped her HITS as all the new singers. That is a merit these days, Whitney was a blessing.
I loved Whitney Houston dearly, and always supported her, however, I will tell you that she was NOT ready for this tour. Her voice was completely gone and had zero range. I blame agents and those close in her camp for not bringing her to that realization. It was no secret, the whole world knew that she was recovering from drug abuse and I feel that she felt the pressure to let the world know that she was trying her best to be the Whitney that everyone knew and loved. She had dropped the new disc "I Look To You" and the pressure was on to tour and promote it. Why did they (the record label, and promotion agents ) allow her to embarrass herself in front of her fans and give the media the fuel to deem her a failure? She was in NO condition whatsoever to tour, let alone do a WORLD tour, she needed the time to recoup. When she spoke, her voice was hoarse, and that was just speaking... what did they think would happen when she sang? It pains me to see how her life literally desintegrated before our eyes. Whitney you are loved and missed to this day. I wish you were given the time to really heal, physically, spiritually, and vocally.
Whitney was well aware of her limited range. According to her vocal coach at the time (Gary Catona), he tried to urge her to wait longer before recording and touring. He explained to her that she was only about 85% there and she could get much better with more work. He also knew her voice would degrade as she began using it. However, it was probably money problems that led to her cutting her vocal therapy short and to record and tour. The pressure of money forces a lot of people to do things they would not otherwise do. I also believe that she had been getting stir crazy because she couldn't do the one thing she love doing, singing. During the 90s, she wanted to quit singing because she no longer enjoyed it. In the 2000s, it was the exact opposite. When you can't do the one thing you really like doing, you want to do it more than ever and her voice just wasn't ready. I should also point out that Whitney was entirely hoarse by 2004-2005. She could only whisper. Gary Catona stepped in and put her under vocal therapy that would help her voice return. Unfortunately, the one thing she refused to do was stop smoking. Gary worked with her from 2005 through 2008 to get her voice 85% there. That's actually very good considering she couldn't even speak when he started with her. If she had been willing to wait until 2010-2011 to record and to quit smoking back in 2005, she might have gotten nearly all of her range back.
David Gans I agree....she had emphysema and lots of erosion in her esophagus due to severe smoking...thats why she gain the weight due to the meds that contained steroids to treat it........she was able to modulate tho before she passed...
this is why I respect this woman so much, cause my ass would have lipped and called it a day but not whitney she was all about giving her all, even when she was at her worst.RIP THE GREATEST

Charleston Berry she couldn't sing her own songs whether she wanted to or not. they wanted to get as much profit out of her. they knew how bad that crack had become. it was a matter of time before she would kill herself like that. she was gone. sad

Whitney Houston was absolutely incredible regardless of what she sounded like, i think her real fans that just wanted to see her back on her feet and well again and they didn't care how she sounded on tour. However she wasn't ready to tour and i don't actually think she was even ready to go back into the recording studio again. It can take a very long time to recover from years of systematic drug abuse, not only physically but mentally. I think the record label did maybe pressure her to get back out there but i also think she maybe put pressure on herself too. To get back up and prove she was okay and not only prove to the world but maybe to herself that she could do it. Unfortunately like many people around the world once the drug has hold of you it doesn't let you go and takes every ounce of will you can muster to break free of it, some do break free, but very few people actually make the break from it. Just because it was Whitney Houston doesn't mean it makes it any different or easier to get clean, after all she was just like everybody else, she had the same insecurities we all have, she felt the same kind of emotions that we feel, she felt hurt just like you and me. she was in fact only human, just like the rest of us. It's so very sad to have watched her like that. Most of us shy away from what's real because its hurtful to watch people in everyday life go through that, but for Whitney she was in the public eye so i cannot imagine what kind of enormous pressure she must have felt to show the world she could do it. Sadly she wasn't ready and she paid the ultimate price. Such a loss to everybody left behind. I'm very sure she will always be missed by family, close friends, children, fans. She touched so many hearts in so many different ways. On a personal note, a couple of these comments are really quite hurtful and show a very narrow view of how people know so little of illness and addiction. I think humanity has such a long way to go yet... At least she tried to get herself clean. It's so sad to see how narrow minded some people really are.

Looking at this footage, you can tell that Whitney just didn’t give a damn anymore. You can see it all in her energy; she just looks tired and exhausted. Honestly, that “Nothing But Love” tour should have NEVER happened. She had a few good vocal moments throughout this tour but overall she didn’t sound good at all. I don’t know if it was money problems as to why she had to tour or owing the record label since she was still under contract after she signed the 100 million deal back in 2001( which I think she regretted doing in her later years). Whitney should have just left the singing alone and just stuck to film and did a show every blue moon.
Not necessarily. She sounded sick in which,she was.She looked it. And when your sick,you cant give your full self cause your body is already fighting against the bacteria & infection invading your body. Then top that,she was smoking,which is HORRIBLE for a singer. But Whitney didnt like disappointing her fans & the employees that worked for her. So instead of canceling, and God-Forsaken lip syncing,which whitney HATED,she sang. Now I'm not excusing her but you have to make way for all the contributing facts before lashing out on her.
Clive didn’t want Whitney to tour. Her management pushed for it. When Whitney kicked it off in late 2009 in Russia she was good , she got to South Korea she was fine and then it went downhill. I think her dates should have been spaced out.

I truly believe her only motive for that tour was financial gain due to her tremendous debt. there's just no way her or anyone else could have listened to her during rehearsals & felt she was "tour worthy".. no way at all. she had a devoted fan base & that's why tickets sold. seems a little unfair to the fans though, especially at $165 a pop at some venues.. her voice was noticeably declining in the 90's so I think most ppl just wanted to see her in person more than hear her.. it breaks my heart to hear her in that condition so I can only imagine what it did to her emotionally especially when there were ppl walking out halfway thru the concert and demanding refunds.. Drugs were probably her only escape from the pain & distress. even Clive Davis said he didn't want her to do that tour nor would he ever promote her again until she gave up cigarettes.. RIP Whit. Regardless of how you left us, I will ALWAYS love you..😘😘
It really breaks my heart to see the once untouchable voice gone bad but all the same she left a mark in our hearts which nothing can erase....she's still the voice❤
Whitney prided herself on always singing 100% live, but on this occasion I think it was more than that. She will have knew better than anyone that her voice wasn't even 20% of what it was, so for her to not at least prerecord the songs to paper over the cracks somewhat, and instead display her voice in it's rawest form Infront of her fans and the circling media vultures to me is like an indirect cry for help. A prerecord version would have softened the narrative away from a concern for Whitney's health, but honestly I think Whitney wanted people to feel that way.
My baby Whitney was tired. She was truly tired of her Hugh life. Tired Of singing , didn’t want to sing anymore. It’s not so more that she couldn’t sing. But it’s that she lost the desire to sing. That alone will cause an immediate change to your voice and body.
Friends would have advised her against this amazing tour she has respectably pulled through to the last concert. She was not that far yet and had too many doubts if she is good, etc. Also her so-called manager only saw the money with her comeback. No question the album with songs like Million Dollar Bill etc was awesome but we fans could have waited too or if I had known it would be better not to perform it would have been alright but these are all their silent killers !! Sure, you'll say everyone is responsible for taking drugs, but how to get there, and who is well-disposed to you, is different. Nevertheless, she remains the largest pop and soul queen in the world - forever and no one will ever get to them.
@ILovetopranku wow you negitive people shes coming back you gotta give it a few years she just stopped drugs in 2008 or so and got very sick i april. the truth is this woman knows music adn she knows how to preform and still the best out of all these 20 something year old people who lipsing and this woman has soul. not like any others. she maybe has lost the power but shes 50 in a year or so and what shes been through no one would come through sounding like she did in the early 90's.
She didn't care anymore. The older you get the less you care about stuff that doesn't matter. She should of retired and went to do movies or running that juice stand in Jamaica, If that where her heart was at the time. Clive Davis is the Grim reaper. Janice Joplin, Phyllis Hyman, Whitney Houston all died after dealing with him in some way. He makes stars over and gives them an image and wants the Star to forget about who they are as a person. That causes all kinds of issues. Its also how keeps control because the person can not go on in that persona without his input. Thats what happened to Whitney I believe. She may not have been as famous with Clive Davis, but I believe she would still be alive and her body of work much more soulful.
I really think she would've become super famous without Clive anyway. Once a millenium you have a person with the Voice, supermodel like face and body, and huge charisma.
As for those who were not super fans not really knowing her range in sound & stage presence I can see the disaster . It is a shame no one took her aside and told her how bad she looked and worse sounded . This woman was giving it her all & by this time this is all she had , the stage & us . If I read correct she could have got her voice back to a decent range had she stopped smoking and rested . Whitney should have been at home resting, healing & planning the greatest comeback ever .
Did she actually want to do the tour ? This is a legit question. Her voice does peep thru in several areas which had the greed power makers only give her a few years to take it all back then toured . A rush into anything is a gamble. I love her

Whitney at her worst is better than everybody else. As rough as you may think she sounds here - try singing the way she’s singing with her dynamics - you’ll see it’s difficult to do
She was actually wearing the shoe she was later buried with, her family says it her best shoe. Whitney work for her family till her last breath dropped and the only seed she left behind was neglected, I hope they are doing fine with the riches. Keep sleeping on Whitney and Bob

they let this woman get in stage like this. it's sad. they used her till the end. who would approve this tour. at that point even Brittany Spears would sing her under the table. this is disgusting. she had no voice at all. terrible.
@Tyrell667 I actually like Whitney and always have done, I just think all those years abusing drugs have damaged her vocals which is a real shame, but she's had the fame and fortune and she's never gonna be able to perform the way she used to, so why shouldn't she retire like the graceful women she still is?..........just an opinion pal.
