Holy shit Whitney did great singing live and moving so much in the first two verses/choruses of this song. But, back around this time, she was WHITNEY HOUSTON. She was flawless from '86-'93.

More like 83-95. Singing "Home" on Merv Griffin 83' to "This Day" on Vh1 Honors 95'. The Voice after that got raspier but it was still powerful, hence "When you believe" at Oscars 99'.

A wonderful singing teacher I was blessed to have as an undergraduate told me, that if you are going through a rough period where you are not quite your best, technique is what will help you sing through it if you absolutely have to and rest is not an option. Ms Houston showed us that her 90% is something that most of us would kill to sound like...what an absolute blessing to the world she was

just hard to believe a great singer like Whitney Houston and people had to say her music was not Black Enough.... Let's leave it at it was simple great music and during the course of the year of 2012 let us continue to support and prayers for us as fans and her family. For those of you that celebrate Easter, let us remember her that week especially the family.
@LOYAL4YA

She was special. She had one of the greatest voices ever, she was very attractive and down to earth. The hate she received from the fans at the 89 Soul Train awards was probably based on jealousy. She was able to sale 4-13 Million albums and she wasn't limited to only a Black audience.

This Whitney is my favourite Whitney. Her looks and outfits were edgey, fashion forward and on point. At this point she had the right amount of fame for her to handle. The Bodyguard fame seemed too much for her to handle that she started breaking apart after that.

King Julien yeah I agree and after the bodyguard she had so many demands on her life. I think Bobby was clowning and she had her daughter to look after so she was pulled in so many directions. I'm sure the drug use increased as well unfortunately. I regret never seeing her in concert.

Diana Ross and the Supremes were first to hit the pop charts big, then Roberta Flack and Diana had some # 1 hits in the early 70's.. then Donna Summer became the first real dominate female artist on the pop charts ever..having 4 number ones in a 12 month period and 9 consecutive top 5 singles from 78-80. She was the first female in the modern pop era to have the number one single and album simultaneously (3 times in 8 months), took 3 double album to the top of the charts in 14 months, and she was the first to consistently sell albums 6 gold, I platinum, 2 double platinum and 1 triple platinum album between 75-80. Billboards top act from 1976- 82 with 12 top 10 singles.Ross never had a gold album as a solo artist until 1980. Tina Turner had her comeback going in 1984 & 85... these were all before Houston arrived

***** She should have been ... with the new medium MTV provided a platform never seen or utilized before and the path cleared for a new star. Arista records poured 1/2 million dollars into making her album and 3 million dollars on promotion (which was something that has not been done before or since). It's all relative per the times anyway. Donna Summer sold 140 million albums and 50 million singles. Houston sold more albums but not singles.

Even though her biggest hits still had a Gospel influenced delivery, she still wasn't singing the type of songs Anita Baker, Regina Bell, or Miki Howard was singing. To top it off it appeared that she had a WHITE man in the "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" video. Basically they felt she was a sell out. And the fact she only one 2 Grammys up to that point blows me to be quite honest. She has the greatest female voice to be recorded...point...blank...period.

Especially when it comes to crossing over to Pop.Berry Gordy knew all those many yrs ago to do crossover music,after all who buys all those records? White people.everyone knows black people don't buy nearly half as many records. And I'm black so don't come for me!.. Clive Davis I believe wanted Whitney to achieve the ultimate success and stands to reason for Pop Music but y'all wanted to bash her at the soul train awards calling her "Whitey" even then y'all started with the bashing! She's Not the 1st female to sing Pop and won't be the last! I had to get this off my chest for some yrs now! Excuse me...

Drew Mcdonald. It makes me mad too. I till this day cannot understand why she was criticized for doing things that everyone was doing. I remember that Al-sharpton calling CNN to talk about her greatness and how it is such a loss after she died 🙄 what a hypocrite. Honestly it’s like everyone was mad at her for being successful and once she fell they couldn’t help but be happy. She lost so many of her fans trying to please and be accepted into her own community smh.

ouch. ugly on here. i do not curse. i just know that whitney houston is the best live singer of all time. she is THE VOICE. she did not need all the crap in the background. she just sang. sadly...she is gone. too soon. but she is just the best. whitney. sorry. i am white. it is not a white or black think. gay or straight. how about talent? that is all i care about. and she is gone. her music and talent made me smile.

Diana Ross, Tina Turner, and Aretha paved the way for Whitney. If we are to follow your logic without them there would be no Whitney Houston. Also, if anyone can get a Grammy or a top 10 single; where is yours?

Tina Turner?! 😃 Chaka Khan did, dude...she even says here that she and Luther (Vandross) and her mom, for that matter, know each other from a way back, simply because they ALL sang background vocals for Chaka Khan back in the day and it was also Chaka who gave Whitney her 1st opportunity in singing...and Whitney loved Chaka back the same way...just search for their duet for "I'm Every Woman" live here on RU-vid...

Lets be very clear! If Whitney didn't sing the songs to appeal to a broader audience, she most likely would NOT have become a super star. Black people are not loyal supporters of artists who truly represent black music anywhere near people who sing a broader range of music. That's a fact! If I was a singer, I wouldn't limit my sound and audience to just a 'black' audience either.
