Singers like Brandy, Lauryn Hill & Jasmine Sullivan agility runs circles around both Whitney & Mariah but they had many things those other vocalists don’t have. While Mariah always impresses with her range, just how HIGH her belt & mix can go, imo she had never had the shear POWER that Whitney had in her prime especially in that 5th octave. Even though everything above D6 was disconnected whistle, it requires amazing technique to access and control the whistle register. In terms of resonance, for a light lyric soprano, Mariah had fantastic resonance. Of course Whitney had great resonance coupled with greater power but it was not unusual since she clearly had the bigger, spinto-like voice in the first place.
