I agree that the "character" is just the suit, however I still think it's implied that there's someone inside. Just the whole fact it's based of a tired mascot performer. He doesn't want you to see or pull on the zipper as it would ruin the illusion. Why not just make an actual bunny for Easter (Vs a pretend one) if the joke wasn't this is a character working a job. Will we ever see this character? Probably never, and that's ok.
Well, the unzipping thing ruining the illusion of an identity inside, might be a just as worse revelation, not less, than it potentially being empty, because it being empty instead would ruin the illusion of someone being in there, which people/characters believe, completely. Instead of a Person you don't like, it's Suit you don't like. So it feels like, that could be an equal exchange of possible disappointment? haha 😂 If he was a suit, he'd likely be able to do the same things villagers do without being one himself because, he's alive. The jokes about having a tired mascot job might still work because, he does have a tired mascot job. The twist just would be that unlike every other person/anthro in a suit, he IS the suit. And he needs a vacation 😂 Either way it does seem interesting (I'm not really in the animal crossing fandom..) and also wonder if they'd ever show what's up with him, or never too. 🤔
I like how everyone forgets Stitches exists when discussing Zipper. Stitches is a literal teddy bear. How is it so far fetched that Zipper IS the mascot suit, and not someone wearing it? What is a mascot suit but a stuffed animal one can wear? Haha, good video, I like that you bring up several possibilities, and also point out that several other "object" villagers and NPCs DO exist, and no one seems to question them. (There's even FOOD based villagers, why does no one question THAT?)
I think the reason people question why and who is Zipper is is because it's so close to mundane that that's what makes it mysterious. If he was just some character that was completely fantastical like that teapot elephant or someone like Blanca or Coco then it would be different; but it's so close to something you'd see in the real world that it makes you wonder who's inside and why he's so adamant about keeping the secret. Sometimes the most interesting things are those things that are more grounded. Plus, the obvious question is why would they potentially have an animal dressed as another
Honestly, a sentient bunny costume is way more creepy than MatPat's "Zipper is your character's father" theory. Actually Mat's theory is kind of sweet, the character's dad cares about them and wants to check in on them. A sentient bunny costume sounds like something out of a horror game.
I myself never feared Zipper T Bunny, but rather wanted to eat him.. It's weird I know, but it's because his suit and the texture always reminded me of the Peeps marshmallow candies I got every Easter and he just resembles a sugar coated marshmallow to me...
I've never really thought about Zipper just being a suit before! It makes sense too. He doesn't want you pulling at the Zipper as it'll reveal no one breaking the magic of "anyone could be inside"..or the reverse being revealing the person inside breaking the magic of it being Zipper and not someone in a suit; both work really well and I'm starting to really love the living suit idea.
Honestly after seeing this idea. I think the best answer is probably that “Zipper” is the character and the costume But there’s still someone inside. That someone being… whoever was hired to play him that day. Like I think he’s basically just like, a mall Santa, being some random Joe who fits the bill getting a part time job for the holidays. So there’s never one person who owns the suit and wears it all the time. Just some guy who was hired to Which could also explain why he doesn’t want you to pull the zipper and why he claims it’s not a suit. He’s just be told to play the role and not break character. Thus he doesn’t want someone exposing him. Same with how the Mall Santa doesn’t want you to yank off his fake beard (unless he’s dedicated enough to have a real one. Respectable ngl)
I know I'm late but I think he's more than just being some "random joe" but someone way older or a spirit like Jack considering the fact that one of the villagers in game has seen him when they were a kid. I can't remember which specific villager was that though
Well, I just had my first Zipper T. Bunny experience in a copy of New Leaf I found and... honestly, after a few minutes of studying who was around and who wasn't and double-checking which voice the bunny uses and eye shape... I think in New Leaf at least it's the one Nookling kid who isn't in the shop on Sundays that's been roped into the crappy mascot suit job... XD

I heard a theory that it was Lyle bc he wasn’t in the hra office on bunny day(I might be remembering wrong) but it was debunked in new leaf. I like to pretend he took a game off and is in the bunny suit in new horizons 😂😂 idk I miss Lyle 😂
So the only true flaw in this theory is someone is seemingly getting tired within the suit also in Brewster s cafe he hints at wanting to take off the suit so it definitely seems to me that he is someone in the suit I have no clue who tho 😂
Late comment since I found your channel two days ago and have been binging the videos (absolutely love this also, been a longtime AC fan and glad to see someone making vids, I have so many topics I'd love for you to cover) but I think that your theory with Zipper holds more water, and here's why. In Sanrio and San-X lore there's a character called Rilakkuma which is this bear that acts completely normal and mellow, however every appearance of them and EVERY plushie of them as a zipper on their back, and in some Sanrio shorts and shows that feature Rilakkuma there have been little jokes played around that he IS the suit, since he has a bunch of Rilakkuma suits that he goes off screen to put on, the only actual connection I can make is that Sanrio is a huge thing in Japan and Rilakkuma came out in 2003, giving time for the devs of AC (who I'm sure many are fans of Sanrio) wanted to have a little nod to Rilakkuma.
I like to believe that that is his real skin and everything but he doesnt want you to pull the zipper down because all of his organs will fall out and hes so disgruntled and pushy about how its not a suit and to not pull the zipper because its happened before
what if somebody killed Zipper and put them inside the suit.... or maybe they were a spirit like Wisp until they found the suit, and pulling the zipper down would release them, turning them back into a normal ghost.
Let's not forget Hopkins is a whole ass sentient pool toy (I know it's never been confirmed that that's what he's based on, but that's my personal headcanon. Plus, I'd rather not encourage certain dumb adult toy jokes when it comes to Hopkins)... and nobody has ever batted an eye about that! Personally, I *do* believe that Zipper T. Bunny is a sentient bunny costume, or an animal based on a bunny costume, and Nintendo decided to play into the joke about Zipper being someone in a costume over the years. Considering each time a new piece of media with Donkey Kong comes out, Nintendo bounces back and forth between referring to him as Cranky's son and grandson, the company is really not pressed about confirming the "true" identity of Zipper.

Like overalls, they can have zippers on the back. It's not really seen, but I imagine it exists.
Yeah, as they said, it could be, the suit itself is the animal, but from time to time you can hear her mutter things like the suit is so hot So it is lead to believe that there is some kind of being inside the zipper tea, bunny, outfit or suit
It quiet clear that its tom nook dressed as a bunny to give you nightmares until you pay off your home loan. Luckly i paid my full house loan and expanded my storage to the max, and ever since i have never experienced bunny day ever again...
Does he complain about the suit being hot at some point? I think the suit theory is weak, I think my daughter’s theory is better which I haven’t heard in any of these videos. That’s Rover in the suit. Even the dialogue and attitude seems to be fairly consistent.
