Actually Drew I live amongst the Amish in Ohio & PA many now have cell phones for business purposes. Only the most staunch orders or enclaves have forbidden them and they are known as the Swartzentruber Amish who are the best-known and one of the largest and most conservative subgroups of Old Order Amish. There are dozens upon dozens of Amish Orders in this nation.
@@BrotherReubens I don’t think he was giving anyone a lecture? He actually lives amongst them. He was just giving additional information because as we know people who are compartmentalized believe a lot of disinformation. But feel free to keep making ignorant comments!!
@@JLDJR He might've looked up "lessons" in his native language, and "lecture" popped up. People who aren't fluent don't realize there can be a negative connotation to that word. But yeah, considering this is youtube comments, I'm guessing the odds are in your favor :)
I grew up with the Amish in Holmes & Stark Counties in Ohio. The contrast they put off to the general public is interesting. Most around me do not produce their own electric, as the Church forbids it. Instead they use natural gas or wood. Amish actually bought my grandparents’ old farm and my friend/coworker left the Amish Church in the 80s!
Wow, my parents ware grown up in romani in the comunist time, the didn't have access to any cînd of tech that can reach outside the border, Verry interesting
@@lurch789True, they have struggles, but overall they’re way of life is more sustainable and despite it not being perfect they’ll outbreed us because of their traditional values and will grow while the radically progressive population will die off due to basic Darwinism, they are depressed and have not nearly enough children. The Amish are the future whether you like it or not, but you don’t need to join them nor idolize them, look at them as people.
@@KingofportalsHi Portals, there is not going to be much future maybe, so they are not the future in the earthly sense. Some of the Amish have secret problems going on so their members leave and join another Amish community in another state which will have slightly different rules. It is sad that people think that having a job, house, health care, wife and food are more important than being free. But some Amish seem have published a proper report after leaving a restrictive community with silly rules, victimising some of their own community, and a miserable joy-less looking bunch of people, following rules and legalism… and shown the whole world that some Amish are not good, it really spiritual, using German in church so their own people cannot understand the bible…or learn more… and their eyes are down cast and sad…. And this LACK OF JOY kind of makes people think they are NOT ok. Because the fruit of the Spirit is joy. So when we see these probably Mennonite people in this video smiling and happy like they are … it shows real JOY in the LORD… and they seem to be following Jesus. Hooray for that.
I grew up in Northern Indiana, where there was a very sizable Amish population. In fact, it is said that the local walmart in my hometown (goshen indiana, specifically the southside walmart, since goshen has 2 walmart stores) was the first walmart to build a place for Amish people to park their horses so they could shop. It was very interesting growing up with this community nearby. You have to watch out for them on the roads all the time. Also have to watch out for horse droppings on the road. Besides that, they are nice people. I saw a group of young adult aged Amish people go into a restaurant once, and they couldn't stop watching the tv's. It'd be like if we saw an alien.
This! I’m from Fort Wayne indiana and grew up near Amish communities. I would always see them sitting on the benches at the mall observing humanity lol
I often stay in South Milford Indiana during the summer, and my favorite thing to do is walk down to the amish farmer’s market and get some baked goods. The amish people who live in this area are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met!
They not like an alien, they just like an ethnic people in my country 30years ago, the difference between both are about knowledge with technology, our ethnic don't know anything about tv, radio, even having lunch in a restaurant they thought they already pay everything on the table included plate, spoon or fork.
You and fellow travel-vlogger Peter Santenello should meet up once and compare notes, not just regarding your travels abroad, but also Peter's recent series on the Amish and Mennonites in Ohio.
I’ll grant that Drew only made a short here but Peter gave much more accurate descriptions and representations of the Amish than this video. However if you want to find someone on RU-vid who knows a lot about the Amish I recommend watching the Amish America channel ran by Erik Wesler. The man has been writing on Amish culture for over 15 years and even has a book about them.
Actually not true. Every Amish community has its own standards. You’ll see at times , it’s considered acceptable to have phones or automotive vehicles when it’s needed to push thrive your business. I was just at Sarasota, Florida. Where Amish own electricity run restaurants, bakeries, grocery markets, and such. Modern stoves, modern appliances too. Even saw a Amish house builder using a big truck. Amish very often will have range of rules because they believe who ever start the Amish settlement gets to decide new standards. It’s really an abusive and inconsistent cult. In one village it’s okay to use a heater to warm your house, in another that means you are falling from faith and satan is taking you.
Their wood work is fantastic! Their excellent with horses that are difficult... Find the ones that love animals they are excellent at training and conditioning them for just about everything.
@@imnotoopinionated look I don’t ask you to make fun of anybody. Keep to yourself if all you got to say is mean. I have met some very kind Amish in Wisconsin when I lived there and they are as I said. I have no idea why you picked me. You obviously are not telling your thoughts but call another clueless!?! Enjoy yourself!
@@hospitallercross1155They will repopulate much of the developed world when the low birth rates become too much and our populations decline due to radical progressives not having enough kids.
You can’t love animals while simultaneously abusing them. The horses you claim they love get sent off to slaughter when their condition deteriorates from the daily abuse.
Because solar panels are actually good for the environment. They're using a few modern technology which that can gives positive energy. While using car will have the effects of pollution and phone will also contains a radiation even the radiation wave is not much like nuclear. But it's still dangerous for health.
We are RVing in Amish Country - Holmes County Ohio, and learning so much from the community. Many are not nearly as strict as we had anticipated and it’s actually really eye opening how much they look out for each other. We’re taking lots of notes.
Their Fresh Baked goods and butter are Absolutely Heavenly 💞💞💞...Much Respect for these very kind ppl. I can only say nice things about the people I have had the pleasure of meeting.
The Catholics, Protestants, Anglicans & Evangelical Christians can learn a lot from the Amish on how to live a truly Christian lifestyle according to the Acts of the Apostles and the Essenes of Qumran.
I used to live besides an Amish couple super nice. The husband wanted to leave because him and his wife had been married 15 years and had 11 children and doctors told her she should not have any more. But if she got her tubes tied or got birth control they would be excommunicated.
@@emperor8716you do realize that once you're in a full committed relationship sex is just as much as a act of love as it it to reproduce. sex is very healthy thing that most committed relationships should have. Just you know I'm strictly talkin about committed relationships like marriage
I believe my wife has Amish roots. We live in Lancaster, Texas which has a lot of land is rather simple living. It’s tough but I love coming home to such a welcoming group of people. Especially since I’m an outsider.
Actually some communities of the Amish allow phones and computers to aid a company but not at home and lots of Amish drive cars during their Rumspringe period...
Stinkor Heaven Stars that we had the Amish because when they take the power out we're going to depend on the Amish to bring back our country God bless the Amish protect them keep them safe strong keep them healthy keep him in your prayers everyday😊😊😊😊❤❤❤🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾☝🏽🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Don't know why so many people here are complimenting the Amish. It really is unfortunate that this is a practice that is even allowed to exist. Amish children are born into a world where they have no freedom to live the lives that the rest of us do. Sure, they can choose to leave their community at the age of 16, but at that point they have little formal education so no chance to go to college, and have to face the awful punishment of being shunned by their families. These poor people are basically brought into a world where they have no choice over who they are, and our government allows it.
Being born an npc is jus sad, they will never get to learn and explore things. I mean our life style is just generally better, we have access to basically anything now. People saying that this life is better most likely wouldnt give up their life for this.
These people are the people who will survive in time to come ... when no food in the stores, no water, no transportation , no internet,, nothing..all these will perish we will go back to the natural way of life Time to get prepared...
Tons of them have cell phones, although most try to hide them. Many of them are not Christians because they are often not taught to have a personal relationship with Christ, but instead, are taught to follow the rules and traditions of their ancestors.
My friend has amish neighbors and we said hello it was my first time seeing these type of people i saw them with their horses and they came to my friends house to grab milk (they have a cow farm) and we saw a truck but they NEVER use it
My Family went to the Niagara Falls And we saw a lot of Amish people! It was really fascinating that they don’t Live With electricity⚡️it’s Also amazing seeing them in buffalo! 🦬

“You’ll never see any Amish using a smartphone.” Tell me you’ve never spent a minute around the Amish and just read a Wikipedia article without telling me you’ve never spent a minute around the Amish.
I love going up to Lancaster. PA and seeing the hard work this group of people actually do. The farms are so beautiful. and yes. I have been behind a horse and buggy
I drive through center PA every night because of work and I see Amish constantly on their horse and buggy. Friday nights are the best. It could be 2-3am and they're all out! Enjoying themselves like we would
I am studying them in RPE (Religous Philosophy Education) and it is really fascinating and interesting! Another interesting part is rumspringa which is when a Teenager from the Amish community can choose if they want to stay with the Amish or leave forever (most likely never seeing family inside the Amish community).
Ig its a good thing that there are Amish people because they contribute to the sustainable development of the world. I mean its soo cool that there are people who still live like they are in the 18th centuries
Yeah some of them do. It depends on which group you’re talking about. Ironically the New Order which is generally more open to technology and even allows air travel doesn’t allow smartphones while some plainer Amish allow smartphones for certain purposes.
@adam567-tu6flSo are you and the vast majority of Humanity, they are no different. They survive just like we all do off of this, our species takes first and top priority. Humans these days that grow up in the developed world don’t know how the world works or the fact that they are so spoiled they just don’t think about it through a survivalist lens, you would understand if you knew that we survive and have always survived off of that so called “abuse” and always will. Humanity as a whole is that way.
They should NOT be admired. Abuse in all forms toward women, children, & animals runs rampant throughout their culture. DO NOT SUPPORT THE AMISH. They have shady business practices & don’t believe our laws apply to them.
The Amish are the answer to all of our every day problems if we would all take one thing that they do and fix it into our daily lives as a permanent change then our world would start to be a better place environmentally, physically and emotionally ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think you're confusing the Amish and the Mennonites. Mennonites are allowed to have some technology. The Amish however are prohibited from all forms of modern technology including electricity of any kind.
You have old order Mennonite that the only way to tell them apart is that Mennonite buggy's are black & Amish are gray. There are over 50 different Mennonite orders in PA. The same with Amish. And until the teens decide to join the church they often have cars. Depending on the sects they might keep their car at a neighbors or at a family business or at their homes if the Bishop allows. Lancaster PA born and raised!
as somone from lancaster PA i know all about it man, they are some of the nicest people, they are always super intrested in what others have to say and they dont have short attention spans like all of us. i seen this lady sit in a chair and make 11 pairs of pants in one day, sipp'n tea and she smoked a cigar LMAO she was like 76 years old and didnt give a fuck about the churchas rules on smoking
New technology...Bicycles were new sometime ago. Carts were new sometimes ago. Clothes were new sometimes ago.. The use of technologies is what matters.
It’s not prohibited depending on what type of Amish they are there’s different orders like new order and old order. A lot might use cell phones for work or some might use cars because there aloud to. I can’t remember the types of order exactly and what the different ones meant but I seen videos on them a while back that explained them it was interesting. Some use technology some even use different wheels or something for the buggies that aren’t as modern.
There’s different types of Amish people depending on their perspective on their religion spanning from conservative to liberal, with the more liberal Amish choosing to use technology and smart devices
Yes we have an "inreach" if you will at my church... we are definitely not Amish but we have Amish visiting and some of them have cell phones it depends on their bishop and you should do more research on the Amish community there's some things that I was shocked to learn like some Amish communities aren't allowed Bibles especially if they're in English... Amish is more of a religion while Christianity is a faith and relationship with Jesus ❤✝️🙌
I was just in Amish country in Ohio and got a tour. Plus saw a 5 or 6 part series from that same Amish county by a RU-vidr named Peter (can’t remember last name). There are basically hundreds of different kinds of Amish and Mennonites with various rules. Mennonites tend yo be less conservative and use more technology- many have smart phones. Amish tend to be more conservative but what’s described in this video is the most conservative Amish (expect the solar / air energy part). But some Amish do you technology and some have phones.
