I've decided to return to an older style of video, including music, images, and explanatory titles rather than just talking into the computer camera uninterrupted. Let me know if you guys enjoy this style more, it requires a bit more time and effort but I think that pays off.
I'm an Australian Catholic. Not a Maronite. I testify Maronite Catholics do outstanding charity work. They feed the poor and homeless. They clothe the poor and homeless. They go out of their way to find those in need. I have fallen on hard times and the Maronites brought me food and blankets. I thank God The Creator and Jesus His Son for Maronites. They are full of The Holy Spirit. Merry Christmas Sydney Australia 19th December 2022.
I am originally Maronite Catholic. My girlfriend is Australian but a lapsed Catholic. Please say a very small prayer for her brother so she may return to the faith 🙏🏼
Thats what Sikhs do. Go to any Sikh worship place called Guru (God) dwara (door), anywhere in world. They serve free food and place to stay for few days to any one from any part of world and from any religion without question. At Amritsar (India) over 150,000 eat free every day. Find on Google, ( if don't believe it).

I’m a Southern American Roman Catholic who’s purely of Germanic/Celtic ancestry. I have so much love and respect for the Maronite Church, I have been recently thinking of switching to the Maronite Liturgy due to the recent attacks on the Traditional Latin Mass within Rome. Pray for your Western Catholic Brethren in these dire times as we shall continue Praying for you. Eastern Catholics and the Orthodox Church know all about adversity, and they’ve overcame it all. They’re truly the front line of the Faith and I have nothing but deep admiration for it. Ave Christus Rex!✝️🙏🏻
Wow..That's great. I'm also an eastern catholic- specifically a Syro Malabar Catholic. We used Eastern Syriac in our liturgies until around 1960s. Now it is only used in some special occasions.
Ahh you guys are the cousins of the Maronites and other Syriac liturgy Christians. Syriac is used in some Maronite churches, but a lot are mostly Arabic with partial Syriac
@@Jeem196 Actually before being in full communion with rome our church used to be part of the Church of the East/ "Nestorian" church which still uses Eastern Syriac in liturgies.
@@alangervasis That's amazing, I had no idea the Syro-Malabar used to be part of the Nestorian church of the East. I know early in christianity they spread all the way to Turkestan in China, but I had no idea it would have had so much influence. The syriac of the Maronites is West Syriac, the Assyrians are East Syriac, so that's who east syriac ended up there. that is extremely cool
I'm a South African, and have a very close friend who is from Lebanon. He was teaching me how to recite The Lord's Prayer in Aramaic, and sent me this video when we started talking about Lebanon(we were talking about culture and heritage, because I'm Portuguese). I personally love Biblical studies, the early Christians, theology, philosophy and tradition. So glad I found your channel, brother. Definitely subscribing!
As a Jew, I'm so happy to see you educate the world about Maronites and the genuine diversity of the Middle East. I'm fascinated by your liturgy and its holding to Syriac/Aramaic. By no coincidence our Haggadah, the book read at our Seder, the Passover ritual dinner which was Jesus' last supper, is also entirely in Aramaic. In all the beauty of our differences we share such common linguistic, cultural and religious heritage.
My great grandparents on my mother's side were born and raised in Lebanon. They were Maronites. They came to the USA in the late 1800s and ended up in St. Louis, Missouri. My great grandmother always wanted to go back to visit Lebanon, however, she never could. Their last names are Saffa and Saliba.
Yes saliba is a very common last name here it s derived from salib which means cross, the last name saffa i dont know if you have spelled it well ,do u know where they were from?
I just saw on i24 News that the Maronite Christians in Lebanon are helping mediate between Israel and Lebanon relations and that is good news. Nothing good comes from Lebanon and Israeli hostility, only bad for everyone. Well done Lebanese Maronite Christians, “Blessed are the peacemakers”.
Thank you for the great video, it is one of the best in explaining the history of the Maronites. I am from Mexico and my maternal grandparents were (deeply religious) Maronites from Zgharta/Ehden in North Lebanon. I was able to visit my ancestors' land twice, back in 2014 and 2015. I absolutely love the Lebanese people and their culture.
Beautiful explanation as a Roman Catholic Latino I am fascinated and impressed on how you detail and explained the history of our faith. Christ is King brothers and sisters
I think Danny Thomas(founder of St Jude's Hospital for Children) was a Lebanese American Maronite. Lebanese people are wonderful people. If you have a Lebanese friend you have a friend for life.
Hey jeem, just found your videos and they are great, Love the way you speak about your religion ! From jewish israelin, hope that one day we have peace in our rigion, and lebanon could be prosprous and have peacful life.
I'm guessing that as you all share a common root of origin, that Maronites have a lot of liturgical commonality with Syriac and Indian Orthodox, as well as their counterparts in communion with Rome. Would love to hear more about this.
@@Negev-Israel Yes I respect people of all religions, they can practice their faith freely because I want peace between all humans... How can we have peace if there is someone like you? Your intolerance and ignorance speaks so much about your character, not about the religion
John Maroun is not St. Maroun. John Maroun is the first patriarch of the Maronite Church who probably made it a church. It was only some kind of Syriac monastic order or an unofficial Christian sect before Rome appointed Him. St. Maroun is the Syriac Monk who founded Maronism, or the Maronite order, through his disciples. Although John Maroun is their first patriarch, the establishers of the church, according to the Maronites, are St. Maroun, Peter the Apostle (who is the first holder of all Antiochian bishoprics or patriarchates) and of course, Jesus Christ.
My 2x great grandfather migrated to USA from Lebanon he was Maronite. Proud of my Maronite heritage though I do not know much about the culture I'm still happy that I came from a strong people.
Hi. I'm Maronite Catholic in America and am familiar with, and love, our Divine Liturgy, but although Lebanese (4th generation in America), am not as familiar with our history in the World. Thank you for providing this concise review of our history: it was well-said and -informed presentation.
I've spent the past 24hrs trying to educate myself about the Maronite's in Lebanon. Imagine my surprise when my DNA ancestry test results came back showing nearly 1/3 of my ancestry from Aaqoura, Jbeil, Mount Lebanon Governorate, Lebanon /Qartaba, Jbeil, Mount Lebanon Governorate! My head is spinning and this was not expected. Thank you for your video.
Maronite and grateful to God! Also... "Roman" can mean in Communion with Rome. Hence, the appellation 'Maronite Roman Catholic.' Latin specifically is a Rite. "Roman" is more varied a meaning.
I wouldn't say Eastern Catholics are different denominations. Rather they are Churches, as you mentioned, in full communion with Rome. Good video sir. : )
The Byzantines saw themselves as the only true Christianity (this was pre-Schism) and they accused the Maronites of holding onto heresy. I believe they accused them of being Monophysites, saying they were in the same heresy as the Copts and Syriac Orthodox. It wasn't true however, as the Syriac Orthodox aka Jacobites had their own battles with the Maronites over perceived heresy. This, combined with the new arrival of Islam, is the reason the Maronites flocked to Mount Lebanon and converted the locals, instead of just being spread out in N. Syria
I wonder what does the Maronite Archbishop and bishop thinks about Pope Francis on blessing homosexuals? Do they back up the decision or are they against it?
good video, but you have some information mixed up, as for the maronites originated from mountains of lebanon, and only St Maroun and st Jhon Maroun were from antioque (or Antakia), and at that time it was the state of Antioque and not Syria (there was nothing called syria back then). St Maroun (known as the father of the Maronite faith) came from Antioque to the Mountains of Lebanon with few followers (monks) after the big discussion of the nature of Christ and his identity that took place in Antioque (and there are a lot of discussion about the reason why he left), and that s in the 5th century. Later on in the 7th century, and after the followers of st Maroun started preaching around mountains of Lebanon and specially in Antioque and forming the monasteries, where st John Maroun was educated, and known as a highly strategical leader in religion and arm, and in that period in parallel with the arab expansion, St john Maroun, was known as the leader of the people, whilst the patriarch of Constantinople (today Instanbul), started losing control over Antioque and the rest of the East (what lead later to the clash between king of Constantinople and the St John Maroun). It s said that St John Maroun was the leader of the Maradites of the mountains, or mentioned in History as 'maradit mar youhana maroun', what later lead into St John Maroun to be 'Elected' as the patriarch of Antioque and the rest of the East (since at that time the patriarch used to be elected and not assigned), and he brought the skull of St Maroun (hemit mar maroun) and put it in the monastery of Kfarhay, and later to be known as st John Maroun the father of the maronite church and (this is imp) the father of the ideology that is 'the Mountains is and for ever be the home of the Maronite' , that is why the Maronite people hold that much power in the mountain, hence later in the forming of great Lebanon. And on a side note, the reason why the Arabs never liked the Maronite through history, was because they were the only Christians in the middle east that never submitted as 'ahel zemme'.
Thank you for helping to clarify. I did however mention that today's Maronites are all from Lebanon, but that the original founders came from Antioch. I call it Syria because the general area has been called by Syria, Aram, and other names for some time, and that my audience will know obviously where Syria is. And yes, Maronite identity and politics is all based heavily on Jabal Libnan. That is why I made this video, Maronites are extremely different to your average Arab Orthodox or Catholic from Syria or Jordan. Maronites are essentially an ethno-religious group, they've just lost the ability of Syriac. If they still spoke it, people would see them like the Assyrians or Arameans
@@Jeem196 yeah man, i liked this video's concept, a lot of the new generation not really got the grip about the whole history thing, and in which in my opinion is quite essential for our present. keep up the good work.
@@Jeem196 yes I am Maronite from both sides, and from a very old family from the mountains. Although history is not my professional field, but I have a lot of research about Lebanese people and land history, after all we are currently one of the oldest people that existed by the known history, and we currently have Byblos THE oldest 'constantly' inhabited city as well. And Lebanese people in general are descended from this heritage and we re not anything else as ethnicity , now they color us by other ethnicity for political reason, that s a different story..

I like lectures on Syriac spirituality by Chorbishop Seely Beggiani. I found Maronites because of St. Charbel and looking for language closest to Jesus' Aramaic. Is Syrian the Eastern dialect of Aramaic? I love translating, this is very interesting to me.
I have actually been researching the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic religions for almost 2 years. I’m really intrigued about the history of the maronites, There is a church here in Phoenix, Arizona that I’m sure goes through the Latin liturgy. I watch their services on Facebook. I really want to visit the church in person at some point 😎
Please go there. I'm delighted to be able to participate in Latin Mass with live Gregorian Chants. I'm able to concentrate way better than during Pope Paul VI rite of 60s (mainstream, modernist). It's so beautiful that sometimes I cry. One girl sings Angus Dei in such a way that it melts my heart. Watching Holy Mass on video is like watching a performance. Can be inspirational, i.e. for people unable to participate. Being there is participation. I recommend you lectures on Syriac spirituality by Chorbishop Seely Beggiani. God bless you.
Hey Jeem the Maronite liturgy was heavily changed over the decades by the Roman Catholic Church. I wouldn’t say they have maintained thier right from charbel in his skeet
How I wish you would use traditional rite. I'm RC and changes done since 60s by modernists (heretics) are huge. After being protestantized in RC I went 'searching' around. I returned thanks to Latin Holy Mass which gives proper reverence to God (texts of prayers are created in such a way), allows to focus more, ensures Transubstantiation happens all the time. While the rite of pope Paul VI changes idea of Holy Mass from sacrifice to party, allowed for abominations happening now. The Transubstantiation will happen is supposed to happen depending on priests intentions, not saying the right words like in Tridentina.
@@RG-iw7py they should return to the syriac liturgy of Saint James they used when they were under the Antiochian Patriarchate. Prior to the ecclesiastical schism when Bishop John was selected. But history is history and money, politics and power will never let this happen.
Maronites and Chaldeans are the only latinized Oriental Catholics while the Syriac, Coptic, and Byzantine Catholics retain their own traditions by avoiding any latinizations.
I'd say yes: Catholics are nowadays most persecuted religion. Also we have a period of dominance of modernist heresy in RC. Thanks God process of purification started. Lukewarm Catholics are learning the truth, more people join traditional convents, seminars, create vibrant Catholic communities (land movement in USA) around Holy Latin Mass.

Arabic language down👇 (interesting for marounite religion) Jesus did not have long hair as apostle Paul said in. A.Corinthians 11:14-15 14 Does not even nature itself teach you, that if a man have long hair, it is an insult to him? 15 But if a woman have long hair, it is to her glory. for his hair is given to him for a covering: Why do we grow old and die? GOD did not want humans to die. Our first parents, Adam and Eve, were created with a perfect mind and body. They could still be alive today. This is clear from what God said to Adam about a tree growing in the garden of Eden. God said to Adam: “The day you eat [from the tree] you will surely die.” - Genesis 2:17. This command would have been meaningless if Adam had been created to grow old and die. Adam knew that if he did not eat from that tree, he would not die. GOD'S PURPOSE WAS NOT THAT PEOPLE DIE. God said to Adam: "Eat your bread with the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground from where you were taken. for you were dust and you will become dust. ”- Genesis 3: 17-19. As a result, “all the days of Adam's life were nine hundred and thirty years and he died.” - Genesis 5: 5. Adam did not go to heaven or hell. Or live in a spiritual realm. What is the Resurrection? The Bible's answer In the Bible, the Greek word translated "resurrection" means "to stand" or "to restore." The resurrected person is resurrected from the dead and is the same person who was before. - 1 Corinthians 15:12, 13. It is true that the word "resurrection" is not found in the Hebrew Scriptures, which are known as the Old Testament, but the promise of resurrection is there. For example, through the prophet Hosea, God promised: “I will rescue them from the hand of the grave, and I will rescue them from death.” - Hosea 13:14; Job 14: 13-15; Isaiah 26:19; Daniel 12: 2, 13. Where will people be resurrected? Some people will be resurrected to live in heaven. There they will reign with Jesus Christ. - 2 Corinthians 5: 1; Revelation 5: 9, 10. The Bible calls this resurrection "the first resurrection" and the word "first" makes it clear that there will be another resurrection. - Revelation 20: 6. That other resurrection will be for the living on earth, and most of the dead will be resurrected in this way. - Psalm 37:29. How are the dead raised? God gave Jesus the power to resurrect the dead. - John 11:25. Jesus will bring to life “all those in the memorial tombs,” each with his own personality, attributes, and memories. - John 5:28, 29. Some will be resurrected to live in heaven, while others will be resurrected to live on earth with perfect and healthy bodies. - Isaiah 33:24; 35: 5, 6. 1 Corinthians 15: 42-44, 50 They multiply priests and saints with sad faces pile up, perform miracles, cast out demons. But Jesus said, The tree is known by its fruit. THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW 7: 21-23: 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and did many miracles in your name?' 23 Then i will tell them plainly that I did not know you at all. Get away from me, you workers of iniquity. Matthew 7: 15-20 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 By their fruits ye shall know them. Do they gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? 17 So every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; and an evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Their end will be in proportion to their deeds. 4: 4. In whom is the god of this world? (Satan) blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the light of the glory of the gospel of Christ might not shine upon them, which is the image of God. Eternal life is a free gift from God. The maronite preoccupation with Power really comes through in this interview. Should point out there are more maronites outside lebanon than inside. When you talk about monopoly over the army command, dont forget to point out the most recently retired maronite commander kahwagi was corrupt and estimated to have laundered $40million
I don’t disagree, but I think that obsession with power is rooted in the anxiety of becoming politically weak like other minorities in the region. Like I said, Lebanon is the only place where Christians can claim they are the supreme power or at least partially. Their attitude is completely different to Copts and Rum for sure. Maronites are more like Alawites in Syria ironically even though they hate al Ba’ath
@@Jeem196 if they agreed to a constitution with equal rights for all sects that was backed by the major powers, there would be no need for anxiety at a lack of power. Evryone knows that whenever crap hits the fan in Leb, the Christians are the first to leave..so if they are holding onto power to defend rights of Christians, why have the majority of them left? The battle for Christian power in Lebanon is about the Christian elites holding onto power, and the church gets dragged into the fight as a matter of survival.
@@mich1074 that's a wise response, thank you for that. good insight. You're right that Christians have been leaving lebanon faster and more often even since the 1800s. I do wish this was not the case, all of the population demographic problems they talk about they could solve by remaining more
