I heard that one of the creators of Southpark used to be a member of the church of Jesus Christ.(nick name Mormons) I ended up investigating the Church because of that Show, and I found it that it was true. no Joke! It is the restored Church of Jesus Christ. Who would have thought eh?! The depth and scope of it is without parallel in my experience!

I can imagine it's different in America because of all the comments saying people who leave the church get disowned or commit suicide. None of that happens where I live, a friend's child left and he hasn't been disowned nor even thought about committing suicide. Is Mormonism more pressurised or something with the majority of the Utah area being members of the church. It's the minority where I live.

Hard to explain, but I think Mormons believe Jesus was the Son of God but that he was not equal to, or one in the same god being. That is, the belief that Jesus is God. If you’re familiar with Unitarians, that’s where their very old religious group gets its name. They don’t believe that Jesus was necessarily divine (Trinitarian) but rather was a holy teacher and guide. Hence Unitarians are not considered Christian, and never wanted to be called Christian in theology and doctrine. Many of our founders were Unitarians.

James Strang and Joseph Smith III formed their own break off churches. So they were not part of the church after Brigham Young and most of the members left for Utah.

Jehovah's Witnesses are mostly convertees, so I doubt they would count as an ethno-religious group, which is the traditional base of any discussion on religion in this channel

NewBenCity one of the interesting things that he didn't bring up except in passing was that many early Mormons were British. They did not come here for Mormonism, they came here for the free land the Mormons were offering. Being a landowner to them meant being royalty of sorts. So many came.

Part of the problem with Mormonism is that it didn't start very long ago so we have a lot of documentation & records about their founder so its easier to spot the obvious falsehoods. Of course, its hard to compare beliefs of older religions to say.... the belief that Jesus lives on a planet Kolob and that every mormon gets their own planet after they die.

Your statement that Mormons were "the most oppressed group in America" isn't true though. Perhaps Mormons could be considered among the most oppressed groups of of mostly white people though? Groups of peoples of color (especially black/African and Native American) have been (and to a degree still are) much more oppressed than any white groups in the U.S.

It neglects to make explicit is that Mormons understand what it means for Jesus to be "the Son of God" in a way that differs radically from mainstream/orthodox Christianity. When they say they believe he is "literally" the Son of God, the significance of this qualification will be lost on most people. Mormons believe that God the Father is an immortal Man and that he is the literal father of Jesus Christ "in the flesh," just as Mary is his literal mother. This is not what orthodox/mainstream Christianity means when it affirms that Jesus is the Son of God. To us, Christ has existed eternally as the Son of God, personally distinct from the Father yet one and the same God AKA "The Trinity" or "The GodHead". For us, to affirm that Jesus is the Son of God means to affirm that he is eternally of the same absolute, infinite divine nature as the Father. Sorry for the Bible Class there but its a rather complicated topic lol.

I know a couple Navajos who think they are "Lamanite" in spite of all genetic and linguistic studies proving otherwise. For example the Navajo and Apache are Athabaskan which originated out of Alaska/Siberia. I don't know about the Hopi but I doubt there is any historical connection to them and the middle east were someone to investigate it. As for the history of the Dine and the Mormon church, the Mormon church's youth placement program I don't think was a good thing. My friend told me his mom got placed in Provo Utah and basically became an unpaid domestic servant for her hosting family.

Most of what you say about Mormon doctrine isn’t true. Freemasonry has nothing to do with temple doctrine and we don’t teach black skin comes as punishment to the descendants of Cain. The LDS churches own youtube page has an explanation on Mormonism, Joseph Smith and Freemasonry. Ive seen videos of some of the rituals and some of the temple rituals are exactly the same as the rituals in freemasonry.
