Good idea, I think that's great that you will create a playlist of different details regarding the Shinobi. I have often wondered the best way to get quick notes about the Shinobi without having to go through lots of book pages.

The origin of the Shinobi is the history branch in Japan of humanity's second oldest profession. 21 year intel cmty veteran and historian of intelligence here. No one knows where or when the first spy ruined a military or political strategy.

Do ninjas have the same loyalty to their employers (lords and emperors) as Samurai? Do they commit seppuku, etc?

My guess would be that shinobi where established through the Art of war last chapter. But even without that book in a country constantly at war is also natural for those people to pop up

Hi Anthony I know this is kind of off topic but i heard today's that the John Wick team are making a film of Ghosts of Tsushima. I haven't played the game but I wouldn't be surprised if a Ninja turns up at some point. Might be an idea to ask you publisher to sent a copy of one of your books, or even this playlist, to them just to get you foot in the door.

The ninja just seem to be a logical tool for warfare. It isn't hard to see how a General could see the value of having operatives within the enemy camp to pass on information, pass on misinformation and or sabotage the enemy in any way possible. They didn't have to come from some mythic, esoteric or "glamorous" origin.
@GallowglassAxe

Yes and Japan wasn't the only place to have people who did Shinobi like jobs. Romans had specialize unites that did various tasks. The scouts like the Procursatores and Exploratores used a lot of the same tactics the ninja uses. They also had special espionage units which I don't recall the name of. Antony on his channel even talk about Germanic tribes that used ninja-like tactics and even Babylonian who did the same. I'm sure if we dig deep enough I'm willing to bet the African kingdoms and the Mezoamerican kingdoms would have had a form of scout and spy network that they used.

My opinions is that fallen angels originally came down and taught man how to make weapons and how to fight wars. The book of enoch talks about this as well as a few other ancient texts. Thier goal was to kill us off and take over the planet for their selves. Of course god would not allow it and that was the biggest reason for the flood, But humanity did get so bad that only noah and his wife and sons and their wifes would board the arch. Also it says god allowed noah to preach and to warn the world about the flood for 120 years prior to the event so they would hopefully repent but they did not. They mocked noah and God for 120 years

Good video. By the way from the other video. Yoritomo tashi could that be a prefix of Yoritomo sei i taishogun? Found some correlation to venerated master Lang-ho could be Yoritomos wifes brother or the monk emperor though its abit far off to say anything definitive. Its basically bad translation that got me there. Though further in the book he reefers to someone he knew as a young man and it correlates abit to what happens when he has to fight his cousin that is helping the Monk emperor. Still its nothing that would be empirical only theories

But the question always arises: why learn something that is purely historical? Were the ninja studying as scholars and historical re-enactors, or as people looking for practical knowledge for their time? Why wouldn't I do the same?

I think you should look up literature from someone with a background in Japanese studies. Stephen Turnbull is an expert on Japanese military history and wrote a book called "Ninja. Unmasking the Myth". Probably a good place to start.

Hey anthony, when you point out that Ninja were samurai or military soldiers, and not farmers or peasents,, wasn't the invasion of Iga, by Nobunaga said the be the grand war between Samurai and Ninja? Since the history goes that Iga was a primarily ninja based region, and their villagers would attack and use guerilla warfare to widdle down Nobukatsu's (nobunaga's kid) army of 10,000 to a fraction, and forced a retreat. When Nobunaga sent a much larger force, he eventually took it but at a larger cost than it should have-- Since this would be military men against other military men + peasents/villagers using guerilla warfare?
@AntonyCummins
@AntonyCummins Год назад
No Iga and Nobunaga was not samurai v ninja that’s a myth it was samurai v samurai. Iga is just famous for being trained 9n ninja arts
@ThatZenoGay
@ThatZenoGay Год назад
@@AntonyCummins So Iga had ninja, but wasn't an actual village/province of Ninja? This brings up another question then. My understanding is that were Iga were ninja, over samurai because the territory had no lord or ruler? Which lead to Nobunaga's invasion of Iga to bring it under his rule? And wasn't the first battle where Nobukatsu and his 10,000 men failed, due to them falling into 'ninja' traps' and being deterred by ninja tactics and 'hit and runs' ? Were these just normal samurai doing this? Or a high percentage of their military units simply ninja?
@BWGgyy
@BWGgyy Год назад
@@AntonyCummins Since Ninja were generally samurai or soldiers, but not always samurai would it have been possible that a Ninja, who was NOT of a samurai class, could have gotten into a fight with a Samurai who didn't practice/train in ninjutsu, and that could have been an actual Ninja vs samurai?
