Great content brother. As a Georgian who was raised in California from an early age I have been trying to connect and understand the interrelation of myths from the Caucasus and the wider world. Also more recently I’ve been connecting to my theories that not all these stories are simply stories and that there are grains of truth (some of which reside beyond this dimension). Thank you for your great content.
Also i think the reason your dwarf video blew up is because it drew parallels to things (dwarves) that more people search up and are interested in, so it got recommended to more people as probb fewer people search up Kavkaz culture than more widely known fantasy things
I love this mix of mythology, fantasy, and real life. Seeing that church was great, and the views throughout were incredible. I really enjoy the love you have for your region of the world.
An interesting tale, it seems to be a reflex on the cattle raiding myth, and may well have influence the Old Norse equivalent. As for the the flood myth it started long before the last galacial maximum, d’Huy has written some excellent material on this; the reason the myth persists is because it is so relatable and so many places have floods. If you want to talk about this then feel free to reach out.
very interesting. I found out Manu and Yama and brought it up to Khatuna Tavdgiridze who brought the Manuka and Januka to my attention, as its not a very popular myth in the region, this variant is from Adjarian mountains. its interesting to think where and when these stories converge into a unified narrative, as Georgia is not part of PIE group at all, but had neighbors who were, so who knows.
The question of who "real caucasians" are is very broad and changed many times throughout history, according to biblical interpretation, the "Caucasians" are the sons of Togarmah, so Armenians Georgians Chechens Dagestanis Circassians and so on, but interestingly in medieval accounts, whenever Armenian-Georgian-Lezgin historians wrote about themselves, they never mentioned themselves as Caucasians, instead calling the actual tribes from the Greater Mountains as "disgusting, insolent, fearsome" people, as the "wild Caucasians" and such. Later in pre/post soviet times the Caucasus seemingly expanded, at that point all the land from Armenia's southern tip in Zangezur to Circassia's northern tip was Caucasus. Today the definition is skewed unfortunately, many Armenians (because of nationalism) say that we have literally zero relation to the Caucasus or Caucasians and that we reside in the "Armenian Highland" (term created for political reasons post-USSR), I've seen many Georgians too say they arent Caucasian and also reside in "Georgian Mountains", even the clans of Circassia Chechnya and Dagestan sometimes call eachother "fake caucasians". Nationalism has plagued our poor mountains, its a sad situation. But im Armenian, and I call myself Caucasian, and im proud of my region and its importance worldwide. Thanks for the video my Georgian brother, im a big fan. 😁❤❤🇦🇲🇬🇪
I agree, the nationalism we have today is toxic and meant to devide us. I'm trying to promote more positive and inclusive idea of Caucasus that we are all ancient brothers and not enemies. United we stand, decided we fall.
The issue I see is that only Eastern Armenians can identify with the term Caucasian, an Armenian from Sasoun or Mush has very little connection to the Caucasus mountains so a term like “Armenian Highlands” is more appropriate when talking about Armenians as a whole.
ye, I actually pop up in a lot of random places, its just people didn't recognize me before. I do losts of weird and random stuff that ends me up on the meme pages.
The way I was taught it Canaan did more than laugh at Noah, hence why he "discovered" what had been done to him while he slept. I won't say it but it rhymed with Muggery. So it was more than just some rude comments at an elder, which in that time with those people would still be pretty darn rude. The part about the ancient Armenians fighting off Nimrod was very interesting and not something I had heard before. But poor Americans never get to hear much about that part of the world, if some of us even know of it's existence. It would be neat to hear about any legends or history regarding the fruits/vegetables/foodstuffs from the Caucuses. Having bought a number of new fruit trees this year I learned that Apricots evidentially have a long time history with Armenia. And about every good fruit from figs to apples to peaches and more has been brought over the hills to Europe and beyond. Might make the fruit all the sweeter
I always enjoy your Videos Man, there Is something very interesting about Georgian tales that i find very interesting, AND also your narration Is always impecable. Im also eating toasts with oatmeal. Cheers from Uruguay Bordo!
This guy talks like he's reading bible verses. And so, the bull went up the mountain And went to the mountain lake. He screeched at the lake, and from the lake arose a great leviathain and then they did great battle
something i like about this guy is he doesnt go ' ' oh this happened and if you dont believe it then your a fool ' ' But instead he's simply suggesting it
