Wow, I learned a lot here. I had some knowledge of the destruction of the textiles industry and the acceptance of a 3rd gender (which the British tried hard to stamp out because they worried thst their own soldiers would be 'corrupted'). I also knew about the general wealth of India as a whole. Nobody really talks about these things together or how things were before British rule, so I'm really glad for the context. It blows my mind that Tamil is the oldest language and it's actually still in use! Also, how did the British not plunder the temples? I would have expected them to claim that hoarded wealth should be 'distributed' to the people of the empire * cough * * England * * cough * The wealth in that one temple alone is astonishing, but I'm glad it wasn't taken. Thank you for reacting to this - I would never have known about most of it otherwise. Oh, and traditional British food is mostly bland - can confirm (am a Brit). (edited to reformat something)

state was converted from an exporter to importer of British goods and experienced heavy taxing as the raw materials where being pulled out of the country at will . do this for a 100 years you will destroy any civilization .
