The templar cross on the ships is actually an order the Portuguese created after the templar order was abolished called the ordem the Christo. The cross you see in the trailer is seen in a lot of Portuguese ships that explored the world and is still seen and used today such as in the military.

writing this before I watch, I suspect it may be the porteguese and the christian daimyos.

Previously, the cinematic trailers focused on Assassins hunting down Templars. Since Origins, these trailers have shifted away from that theme. Even the conflict between the Hidden Ones and the Order of Ancients serves more as a backdrop in the modern games. It's quite apparent that this game might take a similar approach.

This is great, at this point I thought most of Memmories was lost to most AC fans, but I genuinely wish they dont retcon it. Additionaly, about the Jesuit missionaries being the ones to spread the Templars to Japan, Memmories says that Alessandro Valinagro (a Templar) inducted Japnese people into the order as he converted them to Christianity, he also was alive during Shadow's time frame so, idk?

I think it makes sense for the missionaries being templars since Valhalla showed how the religion was partially founded to replace the more pagan influenced Order of the Ancients.

This is a theory about who could be the main Templar antagonist and that Yasuke's might've served him at the start of the game: While most of Yasuke's life remains a mystery, there are a few key things we do know. He was originally in service to Jesuit Missionaries, as in catcholics, as in TEMPLARS! Eventually he was given to Oda Nobunaga a feudal lord during the sengoku period who was on good terms with the jesuits, hinting that he might be the main templar antagonist of this game, with Yasuke initially serving him only to betray him by becoming an assassin. Why do i think this well, Nobunaga was eventually betrayed during the Honno-Ji incident, and while most reports said Nobunaga committed seppuku, unaliving yourself with your own sword, there are some reports that say that he was actually Assassinated by a samurai general, which sounds familiar. (it's probably Yasuke) And as Master Templar speaking for all the templars in the templar order. Ofcourse we work from the shadows to control the world. (Recently made a video about the assassin vs templar conflict if you want to learn about that because i did get inspired by MasterAssassin and The Hidden One to become an AC youtuber.)

I suspect the reason they are being dodgy on this question is because Yasuke might be a Templar or at least start out as a Templar...

Nobunaga being an antagonist would be stupid to me because the literal tale end of yasuke’s life in record is him trying to save oda, so how could he be the antagonist?, also oda elevated yasuke to a certain samurai ish (it’s 50/50) status , so if they just say wow oda bad because killed naoe father is a bit dumb, I feel akechi mitsuhide or a more prominent Jesuit might be the main villain, i also hate the trend I’ve seen in Ac recently , they are too good , they are too vigilante like and the Templars are more and more cartoonishly bad we didn’t get a quote on quote good templar since monsieur de la serre in unity and maybe Alfred but he more so created them, even in mirage they were just good people assassins, bad people Templars ezio had his cartoonishly evil villain but it didn’t really matter because his own personal journey while Simple was quite well executed Of all things I’m skeptical of the story in this game than anything else, how does no one recognize the oda seal on yasuke’s armor, how can he kill daimyos and other samurai without being revealed?, if it’s before oda’s death how could yasuke move so freely and cause other factions to never report it to nobunaga and if it’s after nobunagas death how is he still a samurai , in any other franchises I’d trust and wait but in Ac so many questions in history with bad dialogue means we gotta turn our brains off, wish they at least got darbie , people hate the bloat in Valhalla’s story but the dialogue was good in a lot of moments, the main story outside the bloat was quite descent ,good at times with one great moment, but shadows had me asking the logic of everything, also yasuke’s voice actor is good but naoe’s voice actress in gameplay feels like she doesn’t have proper mic, the delivery was descent and stiff , in the cgi trailer she sounded good though

A story focused around Naoe and Yasuke being pissed because a Templar took something from them and they spend the whole first act plotting to kill him and ending with killing them. Driving Naoe to be a little more ruthless and have an ego full of vengeance but also full of herself whilst yasuke is the opposite going down a similar path until his mentor and samurai brothers help him off it making him the honourable and hopeful person for the people. A new Templar arrives and Naoe is filled with lust and hatred for them after 3 months of solo work picking off the corruption in Japan. She does anything possible to find and kll them including going after and threatening to kill his loved ones and almost does until yasuke stops her. They fight and you choose who you want to win changing the story possibly making two endings. Naoe wins then becomes a cold blooded vigilante who the people fear more than the templars and look to yasuke who is now the main guy trying to stop Naoes cold blooded betrayal path. You get to choose once more who wins and if yasuke wins then you can choose to kill her or not but if Naoe wins then she kills him no matter what. THIS COULD BE SO GOOD but I swear if it starts off with Naoes dad dying and her just learning to be an assassin LIKE EVERY OTHER AC GAME. Then your just hindering your self from making a story worth ppls money

I'm gonna guess it's the Portuguese Missionaries who were visiting pretty often in Japan in that time period. I hope it's not Nobunaga cause he's pretty cool. The first great Unifier of Japan, followed by Hideyoshi then Tokugawa

I've noticed they've been very cryptic about the exact plot.

oh the Portuguese are definitely Templars. Their most famous explorers were Knights of the (Templar) Order of Christ and the Portuguese fleets sailed under that cross. The cross is a national symbol to this day. Even in AC Brotherhood Ezio sends assassins to Portugal during King Manuel's reign, who was himself Grandmaster of the Order.

As a portuguese i would love to see more portuguese representations in ac creed. It would be great to see the portuguese selling bacalhaus to japanase people. Keep up the excelent job!!

To be honest, Quebec is yet to write a well written and deeply engaging story. And judging from the small dialogue we saw in Shadows, the writing seems chessy and kinda cringe. Hopefully this isnt the case for the overall story.

Surely Oda Nobunaga is just your George Washington of AC Shadows. Akechi Mitsuhide could be your Templar Grandmaster this guy is a mastermind. Also he could be the one suggested to Nobunaha to attack Naoe's village

Would make sense the Portuguese would be Templars considering many Templars fled to Portugal after 1307 and became the Order of Christ in a way... Perhaps they will be working with Akechi who betrayes Nobunaga and a few other Daimyo

The story implying Templars existence is right there before our eyes when we see Naowe trained to be a shinobi (assassin) by her father and her village is burnt down by Oda Nobunaga. Just like every other assassin creed game, the big baddie is most likely the royalty or royalty adjacent in charge of the current time. I think when we see Yasuke team up with Naowe it’s showing Yasuke as a Templar, switch sides to the assassins. I feel like the heavy implication that Oda burnt down the village because it’s a village of assassins is very blatant here.

The symbol in the Portuguese fleet is not a Templar symbol, but the Portuguese symbol of that time, that was in all of their ships and man’o’wars (Portuguese invencion)

What if Yasuke remains a templar throughout the game and Naoe will be unaware of this? Only us the players will know, and we'll see Yasuke struggle between his growing bond with his assassin companion and the Order he pledged to. Or perhaps in the game, the Templars and Assassins have a common enemy. A far sinister force that threatens both sides.

After watching the trailer, I REALLY hope we have the option of Japanese dialogue. Naoes English dialogue is atrocious.

You may really be on to something!! The game trailer could take place at any point of the story. The look on NAOE face when YASUKE turns around in front of her burning village. She has plenty of reason to feel how she does and show the emotions she does during that scene... But what if it is mainly due to the fact that her old partner has turned for the worse and now her enemy. What if that scene in the trailer was towards the END of this story!!?!? 🤯

Plot twist yasuke is a Templar who reports to the templar grand master oda nobunaga and betrays naoe in the end☠️☠️☠️

What I’m hoping but not expecting to have due to I think AC doesn’t have the balls or talent to pull it off anymore is that Yasuke is a Templar and naoe is an assassin, been missing the grey area that the older games explored when it came to the philosophy of both groups how neither of of them are truly good or bad and not half arsed attempts like unity and rogue

If Nobunaga is not a Templar, maybe Naoe's village and family were allies of the Templars, with Naoe hunting down Yasuke at first before transitioning to the Assassins after learning the truth.

I’m pretty sure Oda Nobunaga is a Templar, I mean he was betrayed and committed seppuku, pretty much killed, by Akechi Mitsuhide. Maybe Oda could be a sort of Templar asset, if not a Templar outright.

Its either gonna be the Portuguese 1543 or the Spaniards 1549 that came into contact with Japan in the 16th century, Yasuke served Nobunaga in 1581-1582 till his assasination.

His armor is broken and you can see it in the cutscenes. I would presume his armor got damaged after he betrayed them

2:45 That’s not the Templar cross. That is the cross of the “Order of Christ Cross” (Ordem da Cruz de Cristo). It was founded in 1319 after the templars were extinct by the pope. Portugal didn’t want to obey the Pope’s order and seize Templars possession and outlaw them. The Portuguese king at the time signed and agreement with pope John XXII to reform the order, giving it a new name, creating a new code and a new symbol. It was shut down in 1834. The order exists to this day but only as an honorary Status.

Why are we acting like templar are always obviously shown in the recent years of AC reveals? Mirage, Valhalla, Odyssey, Origins, and all the way back to AC3 trailer there have been numerous trailers for these games where a templar wasn’t shown at all. They weren’t even called templars in origins. Don’t jump the gun and call out something that isn’t confirmed until the game comes out. It’s been this way many times, it’s way too soon to fear that the story has veered completely away from fighting the templars.

I can't really be sure, but I think the cross on the portguese ships, it's not the templar symbol, it is actually the Knights Naval order symbol, really used during that time! I'm portuguese and we have the "templars symbol" in all portuguese museums xD. Great video bro!

In ac odyssey it seemed like alexios was going to figure out what is going on. So i hope they end that. And going forward they can have assassin creed with legit sequels . The Templar is most likely the Portuguese or European that brought Yasuke to Japan. And they are influencing the lords to create chaos, etc

I predict that Nobunaga will be the main enemy and that Hideyoshi will take over the order after him while the assassins live almost in exile with Tokugawa Ieyasu until his time as shogun

It's quite easy. Yasuke was brought to japan by the portugese so they will be the templars.

Now, if they somehow do NOT connect the Assassin/Templar conflict with Mitsuhide Akechi betraying Oda Nobunaga at Honnoji Temple, I will be very surprised. I half expect them to make Akechi a capital A Assassin. Considering the Honnoji Incident was in 1582, only a few years after the starting date of this game, it's free real estate for the lore lol. Comment was written before watching the video, I kinda expect them to retcon this other source material.

A couple things to mention: Yasuke was employed by Jesuit missionaries and was returned to them by Toyotomi Hideyoshi after Nobunga’s death Oda nobunaga definitely ordered the second attack on the iga province and even visited the ruins (not seemingly) Oda Nobunaga perfectly fits the theme of “order through control” Hattori Hanzo was a tight ally to Tokugawa Ieyasu(3rd unifier of Japan and major general, but ally of Nobunaga interestingly, at the time ) who even employed the iga shinobi to guard his shogun palace The only conflict the Jesuits caused was inadvertent through Japanese Christian converts that would go on to attack Buddhists (but this caused Toyotomi Hideyoshi to order the removal of the jesuits) While Oda Nobunaga was very tolerant of foreigners, Toyotomi was absolutely not and I can see him being the main enemy after the death of Nobunaga. If the game carries over to the Tokugawa Shogunate, it may be the case that the brotherhood becomes allies with the shogunate after the eventual death of Touotomi Hideyoshi in 1598

I think yasuke would become an assassin some point into the story, if you listen to the stuff he says in the cinematic he says assassin quotes. like when he said "we are the shadows that served the light" when Naoe, so i think that later in the story Yasuke would join the assassins, i hope that Naoe starts to convince him and eventually teaches him to leap of faith.

What I think might be cool for a game that sorta connects every game together is a game where the main character is tasked with uniting every version of the hidden ones under one creed. Maybe it can be the start of when they call themselves the assassins. Since with shadows we have another group that follow the creed and at this point we don't know if they consider themselves as hidden ones yet. Perhaps they could make it more level based, where they have a few different locations around the world they're open world but not as large as the maps have been.

I hope the story isn’t like conquering different cities and then killing the Templar master at that area 😢

If Yasuke is out on his own, (no Nobunaga), perhaps the templars killed him through Akechi Mitsuhide. And then probably try to worm their way in through the council Nobunaga left behind.

I think it'll be a bit of a plot twist if the Templar Grand Master is revealed to in fact be Akechi Mitsuhide, and Nobunaga isn't affiliated with them at all. Final sequence of the game is at the Battle of Yamazaki, where Yasuke and Naoe put him down mere days after he betrays Nobunaga.

2:44 Hey just as an information the "templar cross" is our cross that we used in the 1500s the shape and form changed with time but it still is accurate to our history if you search for portuguese ships 1500s in google images you will see some pictures with the accurate cross as in the trailer an different ones since it changed with time. As a Portuguese I would love to see us implimented into the story either way as an allie or enemy we had a small appearence in Black Flag and Rogue but I hope they impliment us more with this one and hopefuly they use Portuguese voice actors instead of Brazilian like they did for the 2024 TV Series Shogun

This hits a big criticism i have of the recent games and specifically the Quebec games. A short cutscene or a lazy text is not nearly enough to get me engaged in an assassination plotline. In Odyssey the cult literally ends up as a bunch of faceless goons. Bad people to be sure, but i think most of them dont even qualify as plot devices. AC Devs kind of forgot that theyy need to make us care about the antagonists/villains as well. Maybe 3 or 4 of Bayeks targets are the exception, but even they dont get characterized really.

Im still wondering about the modern world. Will they finally bring back Desmond? Or at least they give us some missions with a decent protagonist

The only issue with AC in today’s day and age is that they are RPG games using the AC title.. how hard is it to give us another unity style game? IDC who the characters are you play as, I’m yet to meet an uncool assassin. I just want the old feel back 😢

Yeah found only two episodes in internet.😅 No joke bro but the west had all the episodes. Well it started in the account of his voyage on his ship. Remember he is a Protestant. In general they are hostile during that era but the Portuguese had trade in Japan. So through China or India.

Mitsuhide is probably an assassin tho I dont really know how Nobunaga is gonna fit into that. Is he a Templar? It matches what they want in terms of power, with him conquering lands left and right. Is Yasuke not loyal to him to be working with an assassin? Or maybe his goals just lines up with them temporary, and then we get a standoff at the end against him or something

What if Oda Nobunaga is still alive in this game and faked his death. History and facts says that they never really found his body after Honnoji incident. I think he will Fake his death in this game.

A cool idea would be what if the guy that’s allied with the assassins double crosses them a third or a quarter thru the game and before that point you’re playing as Naoe and Yasuke but obviously working for two different sides and for a mission you could either choose to kill an assassin as yasuke or a Templar as Naoe before they team up
