If I had to pick one heavy metal singer, Mojo, I would go with Rob Halford's voice because Rob can go intense on a heavy Judas Priest anthem (like "Breaking The Law") or sing a beautiful metal ballad (like "Angel").

Dave Mustaine may not be one of the greatest voices in heavy metal, but he is absolutely one of the most recognizable.

The only reason I'd say Ozzy is more recognizable than Dave is because he's more famous. NOBODY sounds like Mustaine. His snarling delivery is absolutely unique, and if you've heard him once you'll never mistake anyone else for him (or vice versa).

@@danpitzer765 Yup this list sadly was too influenced by big names (despite Mustaine being a huge name, but not to non-metalheads). Ozzy can be very high on this list regardless, and maybe Lemmy too but singers like Serg from SOAD and Mustaine are FAR more recognizable than half this list.

Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour, Solo), David Draiman (Disturbed), Will Ramos (Lorna Shore), Tatiana Shmajljuk (Jinjer), Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) and Joe Duplantier (Gojira) have unique and recognizable voices too, and there are even more. I think we need a part two.

@@dustinlueptow2704 That's awesome they put on a great show! I saw them at edgefest in Little Rock Ar back in 2011, it was their first tour after the Rev passed. It was during their Nightmare tour, they did an amazing tribute to the Rev. I also got to see Halestrom, my darkest days, skillet , Seether, Theory of a Deadman, Stone sour, and three days grace. It was a truly epic event!!

A couple I have never heard of and a couple I can not understand why they are on this list. I also laugh cuz band like Deep purple and Led Zep sometimes are considered metal and other times not. I think this list should be seriously redone. To me it seems merely a list of the authors favourite singers and not as truly recognizable singers.

I knew King Diamond had to be here. That voice was my introduction to metal when I was 11. I'm 42 now and he's still my favorite singer. I'm from Denmark and it's always amazing when he returns home to perform here. He's so happy to entertain and gives his fullest everytime.

As someone who likes Deep Purple a lot, I don't think Ian Gillian belongs here. His voice is... fine? But it's not really all that distinct or memorable or anything like that. Also, they're not metal.

No Rob Halford without Ian Gillan, fact is Gillan was the blue print for Metal vocalists. Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Sabbath and Uriah Heep are seen as the original Heavy Metal big 4, but they all hated the term along with Judas Priest in the 70s.

Surprisingly well-thought out and knowledgeable list for an American RU-vidr group. Because, let's face it, we all know that the US in general lost its grasp of what goes on, and even what once WENT on, on the metal scene decades ago. So, I do tip my hat. Oh yeah - I'm from Sweden, as in arguably the world's greatest hotbed for contemporary hard rock and heavy metal for the last couple of decades. So I do have some idea of what I'm talking about.

Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian is easily amongst the most recognizable voices in German heavy metal. And he's a bit more current than either Doro or Klaus Meine. Also, there were no mentions of Jon Oliva (Savatage), Pete Steele (Type O Negative), Eric Adams (Manowar), Warrell Dane (Sanctuary, Nevermore) or Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass). Timeless greats with very distinctive pipes!

Brian Ross of Satan, though neither his nor his band are extremely well-known, is one of the greatest vocalists of the genre. Even in his early seventies he hasn't lost any luster.

My favourite Metal singers: Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Eric Adams (Manowar), Tatiana Shmayluk (Jinjer), David Draiman (Disturbed), Joakim Brodén (Sabaton), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Till Lindemann (Rammstein), Alice Cooper, and also Klaus Meine, Udo Dirkschneider, James Hetfield (preferring the old albums until and including the black album). PS: There are some more, but this is a good selection I could think of spontaneously. And I am disappointed, that basically none of those made it into your list, not even Till Lindeman, and only a honorable mention for James Hetfield.

Honestly Serg's voice is way more recognizable than Klaus Meine. It's not who has the best voice, not who has the best band, Serg should be top 3 in this list his voice is one of the most recognizable in any genre. I've heard songs in the background at events which I never heard, the vocals start and one or two syllables in I know it's System of a Down...
