all these people who say if youre not white then you cannot be a odinist or a astruer or a norse pagan/heathen are false. they say follow your own pagan roots or youre not allowed. but they should see it as a welcome thing, odin is telling them that the old ways is no longer small and tribal but they say no its not allowed follow your own pagan roots, they do they even truely believe in the gods? you forsake them? you tell them no like youre are stronger and smarter? youre nothing compared to the gods. if you refuse a black man from the old ways then you refuse yourself as well. because as a follower of the old ways i know the gods speak and i know i feel them day to day, and if someone else feels them as well then they have been touched and connected with their ancestors and our gods. they are welcomed with open arms, if you refuse you forsake yourself from being a true norse pagan or heathen. as i follow the 9 virtues and i will show my kinsman honor and i will show them respect and i will give hospitality to all who seek to find comfort and knowledge in the old gods and paganism. so if you say no outsiders joining our clans as kinsman then youre no longer a kinsman to me, my roots come from northern europe so will a kinsman reject a kinsman?

I can agree for the most part. I'm predominantly German and Swedish, but my great, great grandmother was Nishnabe Pottawatomie Native American. I often implore others interested in Paganism to touch base with the roots of their ancestors. For me, it has a lot to do with blood, however the gods have a will of their own, and in the long run... I have always had a curiosity with the norse mythology... I was born catholic....but could never find any spark with Catholicism. Growing up i wanted to be like Thor, and im guessing because of the marvel comics.. As i got older as much as i wanted a connection with Thor, deep inside i seemed to connect more with Odin. Utter rubbish. It's about the blood, heathenry without the element of ancestry is nothing but a LARP. It's just as ridiculous if I were to practice the faith of the Lakota or the faith of the Yoruba in Nigeria, or the ancient Syriac religion. The Indo-European element is CENTRAL to the Indo-European faiths.

An alternative view. There is a strong difference between what are called the world religions which say ancestry is not important. Often a new convert is expected to give up their name, and be reborn in the religion and be a subject or slave of the God. The older folk religions tune through the ancestors to the spiritual. Which is why in most folk religions across the world it is expected that you have a connection to the ancestors you are tuning through. If we take the term white out which is a red rag to a bull, and think about the situation in that way, the question then becomes could you be harming a person by encouraging them to tune to the wrong ancestors? Also if you stop being entangled in nineteenth century ideas of better and worse races, having difference is actually much nicer than treating everyone as interchangeable economic units and turning hundreds or even thousands of independent beautiful cultures into one global MacDonalds serving the same impoverished manufactured pulp everywhere. To that end I may love aspects of Native American culture, or New Zealand Maori culture and religion, but I respect what is theirs, and would not steal from them.

I disagree that Odinism is for everyone. I don't believe an Indian, for example, can be a true Odinist in the way a white European cannot just become a Hindu. They're tribal religions. I am happy to see people of all ethnic backgrounds connecting with the ways of old, but they need to find their own niche and keep separate things separate. Asatru is for everyone, let them join that if they must, but it's not the European land and ancestors of Europe who they are worshipping. Every tribe has its own folkway and I do believe they need to connect with theirs and not ours.

I think many forget the reincarnation aspect of the old path. There is nothing to suggest a soul is incarnated only along DNA lines. That’s a pretty puny view of the divine and yourself. Have you racialists ever looked at the different languages all over Europe, of people very close to one another? Language is really the determining factor of culture in most scholars view. So if you’re speaking English, your culture isn’t the same as the Norse. But Odin still welcomes you. Honor your ancestors. Honor the spirits of the land where you reside.
