Sir, sir…no JDilla slander; Dilla has books written solely on his techniques. Dilla’s drum machine in a museum. Dilla produced a classic beat tape (Donuts) on his literal death bed & he could rap his ass off. D Dot’s mad at backpackers because we love and respect the technicians. Not to mention Dilla did the overwhelming majority of his production by himself.

Dilla could rap as good as his beats. Man was a 5-tool player. He could Make the beat, Mix it, Master it and Rap to it, and do it all on his own. And the chops he was doing WAY BACK before the term “lazy chop” even existed….man was like 20 years of ahead of dudes. Dilla was THE best. Madlibs technique is not as easy as it seems either.

Speaking as someone who actually made and sold beats during the Bad Boy era, the idea that nobody else could do what they did is laughable. The producers he named all had a legal department behind them to clear those samples without getting sued into an early grave. For example, look at the sample usage on Kris Kross first album vs the other ones. Same with every Bad Boy artist. You use samples like that when you can afford it, not because you're an inherently better producer. All the respect in the world for the Hit Men, especially D-Dot and Nyshiem Myrick but him saying Dilla can't see his catalog because Arista records had the better marketing and legal dept. is just dumb.
@victorlofton4381
@victorlofton4381 6 месяцев назад
Facts! And I’m glad someone pointed this out. As hip hop fans we all respect what D Dot has done. But to act like taking an already completed and hit record and having someone simply sing or rap without really doing much to add to the sample is not difficult for anyone who knows how to work the boards. The genius in hip hop production comes from the chopping up different samples and finding those perfect loops to make a new beat. That’s what makes J. Dilla, DJ Premier, RZA, Marley Marl, QTip, Havoc, Prince Paul and many others great. I think that’s maybe why he doesn’t get the recognition as one of the all time great producers. Now I’m not a producer and D Dot got them hits but he’s sounding a lot like the Madd Rapper or Madd Producer.

I'm not talking about hits either as that seems like what he was implying. Before he can say that his catalog is untouched, I'd like him to show me an entire album that he's produced from beginning to end like the people I named have done multiple times. Sampling a popular late 70s 80s hit vs sampling an obscure jazz sample is really the difference here. The latter leaves room for recognisable style thus building a following...which people like Dilla have done and will be more recognized for...I mean people listen to his beat tapes alone without vocals... who checkin for a D Dot beat tape? You can name all those hits... but I dont really hear the D Dot in ' Cold Rock a party' All I hear is Diana Ross...or David Bowie...Furious Five...Whodini...Sting... or whatever obvious sample people like you and Trackmasters used. But I can hear the Dilla in 'Runnin', 'The Light' or the 'Steaks is High'.' And when people say bring the 90s back they not talking about the shiny suit era...If thats the case Griselda would be dancing around like Puff.
