It's not about Cousins' feelings. The size of the deal he signed to be the starter only weeks before the Falcons drafted Penix makes no sense. If the Falcons knew they would draft a QB in round 1, signing Cousins, especially to that kind of deal, is madness. Of course the Falcons did that junk.

Just like your take on First Take, you're completely missing the point on multiple fronts: Outside of Williams, Penix is the arguably the most pro-ready in the draft. Picking him to sit behind Cousins for 2 years is stupid and potentially ruins the young man's early career. If they had Penix that high in their draft list, then why the heck spend $100 million guaranteed on another QB a month ago. If they're that worried about Cousin's injury, then why pick someone who's arguably more injury prone than Cousins? An Achilles injury and an ACL injury are on par for the worst injuries to get in life. Penix has had 2 of them before turning 24. Before anyone brings up the GB succession plan as an example of this working: Rodgers was 21-22 when picked, Love was 20 when picked. The QB's who those players were to replace were on the ends of their contracts. Cousin's contract hasn't even started. If Cousins balls out for not just the two years but all four years, you're wasting Penix's rookie contract. If Cousins fails from the start and Penix jumps in, you don't have money to fix up the numerous holes in the team to go with Penix as the starter for at least two years, you've then wasted at least two years of his rookie contract. Overall, it is a boneheaded decision from Blank and is another clear example as to why the Falcons are abysmal as a franchise.

The Falcons drafted a QB 8th overall and the first two years of his rookie deal he’ll possibly be on the bench and if he is on the field you paying Kirk 100 million over the next two seasons
