Angela had a total different level of aggression and intensity in her voice. I love both voices - Angela and Alissa but they are different evolutionaly generations of Arch Enemy, both have their own raison d'être in the history of meeeetaaaaaal

Angela was and will ever be the one and only queen of scream... she was a total beast on stage.. alissa its amazing of course she is great and her growls are on point nowdays but angela was the number one female growller in her time... she is a trailblazer

Alissa is Angela's hand picked successor. Slightly different vocal techniques, slightly different voices, both are very charismatic, way different attitudes. Angela is still involved with the band as their Manager. Angela was the second vocalist (2000 to 2014), Alissa is the third (2014 to present), the first was Johan Liiva the original and founding vocalist (from 1996 to 2000). Johan has been the special guest at an Arch Enemy concert so their is no bad blood between any of the singers or the band. Because it was so long ago that he was a member it can be hard to find any videos on RU-vid of him as a part of Arch Enemy, let alone ones that are of good quality, further it is also hard to find songs that all 3 vocalists have sung, Fields of Desolation or Silverwing are ones that I could find (and even then...).

For me Angela and Alissa are both great! Alyssa was and is the right choice for Arch Enemy for going ahead. Especially when you know why Angela quit (she wanted to have more family time). And for the live-concerts we got two great versions for older songs - the Angela and the Alyssa ones. Both are great, both are fun to listen too. At least there's no need to compare them. If you like Angela there are still all the old videos and records. And if you like Alyssa there are the newer ones. So ... I'm just happy to listen to both :)

angela was one of the first female death metal singers, arch enemy was a bit more brutal with her on vocals, old songs are often heavier. couple of songs you probably will like are: enemy within, we will rise, despicable heroes, i'm legend(out for blood), i will live again. ;)

Dude, I love how candid you are on your love for music. Arch Enemy is fantastic, always has been, always will be. I love watching people discover the genre I love the most, the vast ocean that is metal, and fall in love with it. Metal, as an overall genre, is soothing, uplifting, empowering, destructive, hateful, and bitter all at once. The melodies and rhythms that come out of it are some of the best in the world, and it's always evolving (such as prog metal acts like Sleep Token) and welcoming new metalheads with open arms. Welcome and enjoy the ride!

As much as I love current lineup of the band, I think this was the golden era of Arch Enemy. Both Amott brothers on guitars, of course Sharlee and Daniel on rhythm section and Angela on vocals. It was the lineup that brought them in front of bigger audience. My favorites from Angela (just few): Yesterday is dead and gone, Bloodstained Cross, No gods no masters, Dead Eyes see no future and of course Nemesis But you still have one lead vocalist to listen to: AE's first one, Johan Liiva. It's different sound, but I like it also very much. Although the ladies perform very well songs like Silverwing or Bury me an angel, the original still is something else..! I got the pleasure of seeing arch enemy 6 times with Angela as the vocalist. I have seen them twice since Alissa joined. Both versions of the band are great but there was something about Angela that just can’t be replaced in my opinion. Amazing band!

I love both vocalists. Seriously. But where Alissa sounds aggressive, Angela sounds dangerous. It feels like she could launch off the stage at any time and assault someone. And then she smiles like an angel, and all is forgiven. :)

Alyssa is a fantastic singer, but Angela's voice is something else: it's clearly not a matter of technicque or who is the best singer/growler/screamer but just what the voice makes you feel and in my humble opinion there more feeling in angela's singing than in Alyssa's, eventhough I think Alyssa has the best technique

Knew you would like Angela too! Actually before leaving Arch Enemy, Angela was the one persuading Alissa to take her place. Angela now being the band manager instead. As far as I know. Angela has an underground soul. He has an incredible onstage personality that draws you in. Alyssa is fantastic, but Angela is unique and unrepeatable. The true soul of this exceptional band. My favorite band.

You should do "Ravenous" from this same concert. It's literally the scariest one, like, I am afraid she is going to eat me.

Angela was a different animal but I think Alissa did a good job so far as a new front singer. Angela is still my fav tho..

I thought you'd dig the energy Angela brought to this performance, Boudy. There really is something about her voice that adds a layer of feels. Alissa has her own charm, too, though. I just love this show.

I have the London and Tokyo DVD's and still enjoy them from time to time. Sad that I never got to hear Angela live. I did get to hear Alyssa six times live in the Netherlands and Canada as one of the openers for Nightwish. I did like the band, but Alyssa never totally convinced me.

I have listened to Arch Enemy from the start with Johan Liiva, to Angela and now Alissa. Angela is my favorite that is a voice that screams war and I love every minute of it.

Guy , i saw them with Angela many times and it is sure it was more filthy than with Alissa ... I lost a teeth in the crowd and broke two fingers during this song ....What a great memory!!!

I love them both, but i have to say Angela purely because that's who it was when the band wrote it, so it's always going to sound more normal or "correct" to me to hear her vocals on the track. That's all ive really ever known of it, anyway

Nice! There are soo many other songs. Angela live songs, maybe try Ravenous. FYI Back when the band was emerging it oddly enough got a big fan base in Japan out of all places. That's why their Japanese shows are to this day special, as thanks.

Angela and Alissa uses two completely different singing/growling techniques, Angela's works best with short phrasing, Alissa's work better with with longer phrasing. This song was written for Angela with short phrasing, that's why it sounds angrier. That both are fantastic, Especially in songs written for them specifically. Therefore, the newer stuff will suit Alissa more, but I love this band. Great job!

Angela easily, the intensity and just like brutal nature and energy/power of her vocals is legendary. She’s one of the best live death metal vocalists ever regardless of gender. Alissa is obviously a better clean singer because Angela didn’t do that but Angela’s harsh vocals are glorious live. No Alissa AE live stuff will ever match this Tokyo 2008 show. That lineup was the peak AE lineup with Angela and Chris still being around.

Maybe you can dedicate one more day to metal? Please? :D

For me it's to each their own. They (Alissa & Angela) both have uniqueness on their own, though the first time I fell in love with Metal was Angela. I had the same reaction like you lol! Like "Holysh**TT man!". Anyway, my recommendation would be We Will Rise (with Angela) Live In Tokyo. Look forward to your reactions! Your reactions a lot voicing my thoughts when I listen such epicness (just any epic music in any genres lol)

This is the hardest choice for me. Arch Enemy is my favorite band. The album War Eternal which is the first album with Alissa saved my life being suicidal at the age of 14. At the same time I listen to Angelas work as well. Both are my favorites frontwomans of all time. As some allredy have said. Angela has more anger in her screams. Both are very easy to understand and both are real beasts.

Nevermind the makeup. Ever notice she has a black eye? Black underlines obscure the discolor and bruising but doesn't explain the swelling. She didn't come off the stage at the smaller bar I saw them in on Wages Of Sin tour... something thrown from the audience? Catch the right eye in the proper frame at the beginning and looks like allergic reaction is going on. She does her songs better than Alissa does, think Mike wrote more dual guitars back then as well. It's all awesome and thanks for hitting em up. Angela recruited Alissa to replace her. Alissa was the lead singer of The Agonist, a band which just recently disbanded which makes me sad. You should react to The Agonist, especially their song Panaphobia. Alissa was a kid when they recorded that song. 😁

I love them both equally. I never thought anyone could fill Angela's shoes, but she's been here a while and has her own thing going, which is amazing.

Take a look at "Live apocalypse" (older than this one) and Black Earth live Japan (Arch Enemy with their first singer John Liiva.. Different style, but still amazing show).

this has an easy explanation... the old songs are better when Angela sings them... Alissa is absolutely phenomenal, but these older songs were tailor made for Angela, so they suit her better... vice versa, tho I love Angela's vocals, I can't really imagine her singing the new Arch Enemy stuff, because that is made by and for Alissa... but they are both amazing 😉

Angela was a fury on stage. She has the voice of a dragon, the I will not budge for anything in the world stance of the viking of Stamford bridge, her outfit looks like a punk escaped from a 70s mental clinic by butchering her way out (and I mean this in the nicest way possible), and the overall stage presence of a fucking dragon. I was impressed by Alissa's version the other day - hell Alyssais the reason I actually listened to the band i. The first place (and possibly Angela's behind the scenes workings) but yeah, I like both, but if I had to pick who scares the living shit out of me in videos from live performance more than ten years in the past, that's not Alyssa. She's great, she has qualities, in fact she is very gifted, but that and precisely that, has Angela Gossow written - nay tattoed,tattoed with the glistening embers of the dragon, the heroin needle of an addict and the shaking hand of the drunk mental clinic doctor in the 70s - all over it.

Alissa is great, but Nemesis is Angela's song and her work has a level of aggression I've yet to see another Frontwomen hold a candle to. She's not even doing anything vocally challenging, she just has such a naturally heavy voice and such biting diction, miss her a lil still.

Their first 3 albums with Angela are peak Arch Enemy!! I didn't like the band as much after Doomsday Machine 😢
