Al Murray is a brilliant comedian, his on stage persona is a Cockney pub landlord, (a cockney is someone from a certain part of London) (a pub which is short for "public house" is known as a bar to you) (landlord is someone who owns or runs the pub). He is also extremely intelligent, especially with history. He is well worth watching more of.
Cockney means an inability to speak English...drop your final "r", mispronounce l/ll as "w", "th" as "f", final t as a so-called glotal stop (lmfao) and dropping the aspiration of "h" left, right and centre. Did Murray really go to Oxford? Oxford failed him.

Same in Oz. "Pissed" means drunk, "pissed off" means annoyed. We never say "I was pissed" meaning annoyed, it's *always* "I was pissed", meaning drunk.

He attended Oxford and received his undergraduate degree in History. Watch more of him - Countries the GB has conquered. Pure genius as you'll see the depth of his historical knowledge. To use the proverbial "that's one hell of a rabbit hole" is almost an understatement, the US has some great standup comedians but less than a handful can stand tall next to a British standup comedian, they operate and a whole different level. It's often very dry witty humor, self degrading even, and it ranges from family friendly all the way up to "What the actual F did he just say?!" (the last will be extremely dark and extremely funny!) Greetings from Yorkshire. Al Murray is taking the part of a typical North London pub landlord. Classic behaviour and bar talk known as banter. I've known many of them I used to deliver beer, ale in casks, barrels to pubs. It's a sophisticated form of humour which we take the (piss) out of day today life, politics, history and our selves. Playing with the language. Laughing at the caricature. A Geaser is cockney respect for a man. As in:- He's a Tasty Geaser. Beer ale doesn't come in a cans, it's draught and warm, full of flavour. As someone from great britain since you mentioned it we only cut our grass or have bbqs when the sun is out which is a rare occurrence over here. We brits come back to life when the sun is out and it doesnt matter where you go in the uk it still applies.
Ironically the American dream was born in Scotland during the Scottish age of enlightenment and was taken to America by Scottish immigrants to America, so Al is wrong Britain does have a dream, a dream that spread all over the free world.

Back in years gone by the Public House was often the centre of a village, where many of the villagers would spend time. The landlord would often have information about things from dealing with traders and visitors and so it was a respected position. Al's character is said Pub Landlord hence why he talks about so many topics but always throws comedy in. He does take the mick out of all countries, especially the French, but if you notice, his biggest mock taking is his often outlandish way of presenting Britain. Hes patriotic in a silly way. Al also studied History at Oxford University (dont know what qualification) and he often throws that into his routine. His "We've defeated every country at war" is proof if this
