I already have 2 Wyze Cams running RSTP to my BlueIris server.... New version of BlueIris is coming out in June requiring new purchase of licence. I may switch to Digital Watchdog depending on features/polish of Blue Iris 5
Got my Wyze Sense yesterday. Two entry sensors, one motion detector, and the attachment (bridge??) to attach to the back of existing Wyze cam.. All were in one box about two inch cube maybe smaller..amazing.. I have not tried any of the Sense devices yet.
Got mine too...I was surprised how tiny it is. So far, being playing with it, and satisfied. Only missing is an option to delete alert history. I guess I would need to unpair and pair again to reset it.
I would like to make the Wyze Pan more 'intelligent/aware' by having the motion sensor pointing to a camera blind spot. Then if there is movement, the camera can pan to that area. I don't think that functionality is there yet, but will be great...
Hello Bryan. Thankyou for the informative content. Can you please let me know, if we can use the same method for whyze outdoor can with battery back-up
First of all thank you Brian for the excellent videos. I have a couple of questions to ask. First when you downloaded the actual file and re-named it a .bin file, what type of file extension did your laptop or computer assign to it? It was hard to tell on your video but it looked like a notepad file. For me initially it was a VLC file???? I couldn’t make out what type of file you showed us on your computer but I I assumed it would be opened with notepad because the icon on your screen looks like a notepad icon. Therefore I changed the properties of the file to open up with notepad and that did not work either. Initially when the file was downloaded it was downloaded as a dot VLC file which I found strange. As you said to do and As it was the described on the wyze support page, I downloaded the correct file and now I’m not sure if it’s the SD card which must not exceed 32 GB, the file extension is wrong, or before my computer SD formatting begins, it provides me with only two ways to format the card space ExFat as a default or NTFS? Any advice would be great, thanks again for the excellent videos, and thank you very much from Ottawa!
Hey! So lots to explain: The file is downloaded as a .bin (stands for binary) which is an executable file. It’s a program in its basic form. So, I renamed the name of the file, but it’s was always a .bin and therefore nothing changed that way. As for what your computer recognizes it as...it’s basically the way your computer thinks it should open a .bin file. Basically, ignore this for the purposes of what you’re doing here because it doesn’t matter.
Hello again Brian and thanks for the really quick reply. I just read all three of your comments and everything makes sense. I double checked my microSD card is a SanDisk 64 GB SDXC, I have formatted it three or four times (never using NTFS), and I have always renamed the download file “demo.bin”. This must be the fifth time that I follow all of the directions and unfortunately as you say in your video I’ve had to reprogram the camera. LOL! Again, thanks for answering all of my questions. I’ll keep on plugging away at it and I’ll let you know if I can figure out the issue. Have a good evening and keep up the great work!
Yeah...you know, I had issues...but I've struggled to remember what it was I did differently between the time it worked and the time it didn't. I had the same issue. If I can remember, I will tell ya!
Hi Brian. Saw on reddit this morning that the Wyze cam 2 now works with Google Home Hub. I just added the Wyze to the Google Home app in the set up device section. Works cool. I just got my cam a little over a week ago, and finally getting around to working with it. I'm in the US, so not sure if this works in other countries.
@@AutomateYourLife I use a few things to access live feeds of my DLink cameras. On my main Windows Desktop iSpy. I record 3 cameras to Synology NAS, and also have them on my Home Assistant Dashboard.
@@AutomateYourLife I love Synology NAS products. Some great functionality built into it. Their Surveillance Station is a very powerful security camera recording solution. HA can be a huge time sink, but a lot of fun. I've got some great home automations setup around presence detection.
HA is a time sink, but when done right it can be very powerful! My family has Synology NAS, but that’s been more for video content (not mine), and less about cameras recording live. Good to hear the implementation is working for ya!
Thanks Brian I was looking for this info for a long time just didn't know the technical terms to find it lol. Almost went down a rabbit hole with raspberry Pi 😬 Q1: does this work with v3's? Q2: what kind of small monitor can I view it on besides like Google nest or something expensive as I don't own any Alexa or Google tech. I just want something affordable and basic seperate from my computer for viewing, if that's possible? Q3: can I view all cams at the same time, like 4x4 split screen? Thanks so much Brian I will be checking out your other vids.
Hey, so yep this should work with V3's! I believe that's on the article on Wyze's website. Might need a slightly different firmware, so check out their page. As for your other questions. The Nest Hub and Echo Shows will show your Wyze Cams regardless of RTSP being used. RTSP can help you pipe video to some of those other security systems though, so that's when you'd use this. And that would open up your other options. :)
Be advised that if you replace your firmware with the RTSP enabled, you will no longer receive FW upgrades to your individual cameras. Wyze has stated that they will not continue to support and develop both firmware platforms. They will continue to update the legacy FW for both versions of Wyzecam. And you can always revert back using this same procedure and the non-RTSP FW.
Hi there, I plan to get a Wyze cam and do the RTSP firmware update so that I can access the camera feed in Home Assistant. Does the camera also stream audio from the camera's microphone? One of the uses I plan for such a camera is to use one to keep an eye on the backyard, but mostly to determine if the dogs are barking or not, thus would require the stream's audio.
So does this mean you could record all video to a local storage device (not the memory card in the camera, but a network harddrive)? It'd be nice to be able to not rely on wyzecam cloud storage and have all video footage recorded and backed up on harddrives
USA Wyze Cam Pan - amzn.to/2ZOMpzw Wyze Cam V2 - amzn.to/2ZKKTP7 Canada Wyze Cam V2 - amzn.to/2ZMYxRG Wyze Cam Pan - amzn.to/2GJ0Bl4 All are affiliate links! Both cameras capable of Wyze Cam's RTSP feature and the upcoming Wyze Sense feature
Yep, I had a ton of issues but I had networking problems. I think if your home network is strong, RTSP can work just fine. You won't receive updates after, no.
Hi Brian, Wyze application start causing problems, today I got a message from app, they updated appreciation, for option to double clicking the camera view, to maximize the view, but since that update I can't view the cameras individually, application keeps crashing, do you know what is wrong? the same problems are on my both cellphones applications. I think there was no need for this update .
Hello - good video! I have read that once you add the RSTP functionality to a Wyze Cam, it can no longer accept firmware upgrades. Do you know if that is true? Thanks!
I tried this, but the video feed is slow, it looks like in slow motion and I notice is skips frames a lot. This does not happen when viewing the video on the app. My Wyze cam is about 8 feet from the router and I have a pretty fast router, Asus RT-AC68P. This RTSP option is a good idea, but not very reliable for security purposes as there is a fairly big delay of about 8-10 seconds of the actual video capture... if someone passes in front of the camera, it takes about 10 seconds for it to show on VLC.... but on the app, it's instant.
Hey Ray - It's still from Wyze's site. You may not be authorized just simply because of an error on Wyze's site, or if you don't have a Wyze account you're logged into.
Yesterday I had gotten an email saying wyze cameras now offering complete motion cam (cmc) instead of recording for 12 second clips it records as long as there's a motion in the room and saves to the cloud. But if you have your camera set up with the features you're referring to in this video now you cannot use the CMC feature. I probably should have went back and read the email before running my mouth on here. Lol I hope I'm telling you correctly. LOL I don't understand what one would have to do with the other am I misunderstanding. Thanks for your time
I have six Wyze V2, 4 of them generated a RTSP URL. However two of them absolutely refuse to generate a URL, no matter what I do it will keep saying "ready to setup", sometimes I have noticed the Demo.bin file erased from the micro SD card, tried with three different cards and both cameras. Any idea what is going on. I have set the other 4 cameras on VLC media player and tinycam pro on my PC via Bluestacks. Please help.
hmmmmm...this is a tough one without being there, but it sounds like they're having trouble reading any SD card. Have you been able to get them to record? I might try to record some footage and see if that works. If not...you've got a problem there. If so, I'd try to redo the firmware back to the base one for the V2's and then try to redo the RTSP firmware. Something is up there with initialization.
WARNING: I just noticed that although I have my camera set to not record audio under Advance Settings AND under Detection Settings, the firmware I'm using (see below) still records plays audio through RTSP. This is a huge security concern. I guess that's what you get when you use beta software. I'm using VLC on Windows (Wired network connection). I just installed the beta firmware (v4.28.4.41 ) to get RTSP and both cameras work for a few mins and then the stream just ends. I have to kill VLC and restart it before I can reconnect. I haven't tried it on my Android devices yet but this is kind of disappointing. The funny thing is this firmware made my cameras start to send notifications and capture video. The latest released firmware, and the one the came installed by default on the camera, would not so...I can live w/o the RTSP for now.
Why does streaming stop after some minutes? - VLC and other apps as well, under WIN10 Is it the WYZE camera? It really is not useful for continuous security application
I've noticed Wyze's camera is HEAVY on network usage when on RTSP. It's not the best that way. Still, I've had it working longer than a few minutes continuously. Was about to try it again actually, as I just got a new NAS
Tried to do this using OBS with Wyze cams installed at one of my buildings with RTSP installed. If your OBS is on the same network as the camera it will stream. If your remote somewhere on a different network, it doesn't work. Defeats my purposes.
@@AutomateYourLife My solution was to run a Android Emulator and screen stream the camera of choice in Wyze app. You can then push towards, RU-vid, FB Live, Twitch or whatever your choice is.
I'm interested but not sure atm if i i'll do it. Is there though a drawback doing this? If not why don't they add it already to their update instead of having us doing it?
I don't think there are major drawbacks. There's a bit of a security differential. I mean, anyone with the URL and access to the URL (which contains username/pass) can see an un-encrypted video stream. RTSP is by design un-encrypted. It's still hard for the average person to get any of that, so I tend to say as long as you're not putting this camera in your private locations in your home...you're good. Wyze explained in their update that they couldn't manage to do a firmware update over their usual process. This had to be self-executed as an entirely separate firmware. Sounds to me like there's something they couldn't update remotely due to security that you could do only locally.
@@AutomateYourLife Brian, I'd be very selective about which cameras I'd put this on because of this Wyze Support Question/Answer...Look at the answer given to the question "Will RTSP continue to be developed?" support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026245231-Wyze-Cam-RTSP
how to RTSP on your PC when the IP cam is on a hotspot network via your cell phone. note, I can't use the 192.168... address because the PC and IP cam are on different network. Even if I link the IP cam to a router access point, instead of directly to the cell phone, and setup port forwarding, I cannot access the IP cam using RTSP. Any success with this?
You'd have to have the IP to your phone to even try, but I don't think you could do it. Your phone's not a router and it's not going to allow port forwarding that you might need to do.
i was trying this over and over and kept getting the 'Ready to Connect' message, watched this video and realize i skipped right by one of the most important steps...renaming the file on the SD card to demo.bin *facepalm* install worked first time after that
I can not get my Wyze V2 Camera to upload or download, whichever it is, to be able to get the RTSP to work. The light never comes on and no matter what I do, it always says, "ready to connect"..any suggestions?
Hi Tony - Unfortunately there's not many things to do with this process that helps. As long as your file is named correctly, you're holding the buttons at the right times, and your SD card CAN be read by the Wyze Cam...this should work. If you've spoken with Wyze support, what have they said?
can you view these cameras when not connected to the wifi they are connected to such as over cellular, I just got the cam pan and that's the only way I can
I'm trying to download the firmware and it keeps on downloading a blank .bin file with absolutely no content and unable to open it at all, because my two computers don't have a program for .bin files (windows 10 and 8). I've seen videos of the file being a zip file but not in my case.
cool but the vlc app on my mac would not stream the video. perhaps I am doing something wrong. anyone? I have the latest app version on my mac. is there a way to record the video??? I need to have it recording
i keep getting ready to connect, i have tried numerous times and nothing, its updated to latest firmware, i eject the card put the demo.bin, put card in wyze cam v2, press set up button while plugging in the power, wait, then the ready to connect voice comes on.
As soon as you hear that, something is wrong. Restart again then. I would suggest reformatting your SD card, then putting that file back in there. If I remember why it kept happening to me (it did a number of times) then I'll write here. I'm just drawing a blank here. Sorry Christian.
The blue light is not on the front it the same light on the back only it is both yellow and blue at the same time giving you a lighter blue than normal
Damnit, so I have to use the wyze app, which I can't setup because I don't have internet on my LAN, to use RTSP. Which supposedly doesn't need internet? I'm lost
@@AutomateYourLife From what I'm reading, any time your camera loses power it will have to reconnect with Wyze servers. So I will have to try RTSP if I want something that will always work offline. But I can't even do the initial setup without a LAN that has internet access. Bummer that no one seemed to mention this in their reviews.
nice videos. This doesn't seem to want to work. I have set this camera up around 10 times and it is not worth my patience at this moment. Wyze need to make it something that is just standard in the cameras.
i'm pretty pissed....i bought another camera and memory card just to see if this was capable and it turns out to be just a waste of money. Why would it not be some indicator that freaking let you know if the amount of time held is enough...now this crap doesn't even want to set up...I see why nest is able to charge the amount they do. who want to spend this much time doing the simplest of task. it's been more than enough time passed as well that it should be proof that this company would not be teaming up with google anytime soon.
Oh...I see we've struggled a lot! So, I need to make this video but I find if there's any sort of trouble with WiFi, your Wyze cam is the first to struggle to make a connection. If you manage to take a bunch of things off the network (say a reboot), you may find the camera sets up just fine.
Otherwise, try things like making sure the camera is close to your router (but not within 1 Meter of it), and make sure your phone stays within a few meters of it too.
I finally got this working with blue iris 5. connects now and works fine. but keeps dropping out. i keep having to regenerate the Rtsp in wyze app, the the cameras come online. Seems to disconnect when there are multiple requests for camera feed from different sources. Anybody found a solution or blue iris setting to change to avoid this?
Hey Richard - Without getting too in depth, RTSP is used by lots of streaming cameras because it's a protocol built for streaming for a long time. RTSP is often used by home security cameras already and so this allows a Wyze Cam to be very easily integrated with other systems.
Wow very nice video everything went well thank you very much until I got to the part that I need to Rtsp and everything stopped I cannot generate any IP address I change password I put the new user name and for some reason it does not want to work could you please help thank you
@@AutomateYourLife I tried a different SD card today just for kicks and it worked with the new SD card. Maybe the old one was corrupted somehow? So if anyone else has that trouble, it may be worth testing a different SD card.
Hi I know you cannot please everybody you got a really nice video thank you but for some reason another I cannot see that little square that I can see what’s on my camera on my desktop how do I activate it please let me know thanks
Hi Eli, I can try and help and our community.automatelife.net crew can try and help too! I'm a little confused though by what you're asking! Help me out with some more details?
Yep, but...what I’ll tell you is that they will tie up some of your bandwidth all the time. Make sure it has good specs for that, because it’s essentially streaming day at all the time :) I ran into this with my Nest Cams. They need 802.11ac. My extender has AC, but my router had n. It was a disaster for that cam and when I switched my router, it got obviously better.
@@AutomateYourLife That worked, but not I have a question that shows how out of touch with new tech I am. It says after I download and rename it to put it on my SD card that I have installed in my V2. Um, how do I get it on the SD card?
@@AutomateYourLife My question is, I don't have a slot in my laptop for the tiny SD card. I downloaded the file to my laptop because I want to be able to see the camera feed on my laptop. Was I to download it to my phone, put the SD card in my phone to get it on the card?
@@AutomateYourLife Ur So Smart Bro!!! I don't even bother with other ppl's vids anymore cause u have us spoiled with how easy and to the point you make everything. Brian is tha Man ! ! ! ! 😁😁😁😁
Automate Your Life glad to hear you are not. It’s random between the two cameras I have but the other form of connection keeps working. Which would be ok except that they no longer record events to the sd card in the camera. So if Rstp crashes motioneye doesn’t record events and the camera doesn’t record events. I’ll try dropping to sd instead of hd and see if it helps
I’d look at the card! Maybe try swapping that. I will say the camera is getting close to being overloaded with RTSP, local recording, cloud recording and sensors...so I could see with you trying to do all that, that maybe you’re running into issues
